Thanks to FOURever & au_chic. Marami na akong offers na natatanggap - from teaching to hospital practice to clinic slots & even industrial clinics.  Pati rin subspecialty training. Pero pinag-iisipan ko pa ang lahat.


Pabago-bago ang criteria nila for admissions. Kaya like I said earlier, mahirap ma-predict kung sinong tatanggapin, at sinong hindi. Meron applicants na hindi tinutuloy ang admission nila sa UST, samantalang yung iba naman nagkukumahog na makapasok.

Nako if I'm gonna apply in about 2-3yrs foreign students pa din kaya tinatanggap nila?

Apply ka lang, tama si bleudskymd, pabago bago yung criteria nila. No one knows talaga, pero para sure, do your best in your pre-med and NMAT. Basta apply lang ng apply

nakalagay naman sa UST na grades, nmat, entrance exams yung criteria sa admission. Manalig na lang dun kesa puro sabi sabi. Di naman mawawala yun mga connection. Hehe. Mas maganda may back up talaga. Hehe! Pray na lang tayo mga sis.

While they say na grades, NMAT, exams, etc yung criteria, we'll never know talaga kasi tulad nga ng sinabi ni bleudskymd, pabago-bago ang criteria nila. When we were graduating from pre-med back in 2007, may mga wala sa list na sobrang deserving naman with good grades & NMAT scores, plus taga UST naman. At dahil hindi sila nag apply sa other schools, nilakad talaga nila yung applications nila and kahit walang connections, they got in na sa 2nd list & that's about 50 people.

Yung iba naman 40+ lang ang NMAT and medyo mababa ang grades, they got in pa rin, yung iba nga sa first released na list nandun na agad sila eh. That's way back 2007. Iba na dean ngayon and pati admissions yata. As I've said, my bf asked the current dean personally kung ano ba hinahanap nila sa applicants. The dean didn't say anything regarding NMAT, grades, etc., ang sabi lang nya e ang hinahanap daw nila and gusto tanggapin e yung mga licensed / may title na and yung may work experience. Pero syempre dba marami nag aapply sa medicine na fresh grad, so tingin ko edge mo na nga pag may license & work experience.

According to UST website http://medadmission.ust.edu.ph/policies.jsp: "to have a good head start the applicant must present a scholastic performance recorded average of at least 2.00/B+/86%, WITH NO FAILURES before the period of application; and a National Medical Admission Test (NMAT) score of at least eightieth percentile ( 80%ile )" - syempre hindi rin talaga ganyan yung nangyayari, marami sa batch namin below 2.00 ang average and below 80% ang NMAT but got in agad. That was in 2007, and ngayong 2011, ganun pa rin, and as I've said days ago, my younger sister & her friends weren't able to get into UST med kahit na cum laude sila of UST medtech and mataas NMAT. Point is, we never know exactly what they're looking for, so I say, take your chance to apply, do your best to excel and always pray.

Regarding foreign applicants, sabi sa website: "Foreign students comprise about 5%-7% of the total first year population". Kung iccompute mo yun, that's about 35 people lang per batch, since 450-500 ang freshmen. We all know na hindi naman talaga ganyan kasi marami talaga ang naaaccept na foreign applicants. So to cinnamoroll, have faith lang. Apply ka rin sa ibang schools since madami naman magagandang medical schools dito.

And by the way, yung classmate ng younger sister ko, d sya naaccept, so he reviewed for boards na lang. But after 1 month, tinawagan sya ng UST and said that HE GOT IN. So ayun, he quitted right away sa review center and pumasok agad kahit 3 weeks na nag start ang classes.

isa pang criteria is yung financial status. I think they are considering it kasi sayang naman yung slot kung ibibigay nila dun sa hindi ganun ka-stable/kalaki yung annual income especially kung walang scholarship yung tao.

^ In UST FMS, not all accepted students are financially capable. The Faculty offers scholarships, but the applications start during the 1st year. If my memory serves me right, nasa 2nd sem ang application & approval nito. If you're  a scholar, you have to maintain a minimum GPA for every year. Sorry I'm not familiar with the criteria. The scholarships are sponsored by different medical alumni groups based in the USA.

I entered FMS (way back June 2002 - shoot! Almost 10 years ago!) with a tuition fee of 60+K for just 1 sem. Ngayon, napakamahal na niya.

^ True. Nasa student din kasi yung decision na if he/she will grab the chance & reserve a slot kung alam nyang di sila capable na makapag bayad. And there's the scholarship. Binibigay naman yung slot sa iba pag hindi nakapagreserve. Reservation fee is 25k, baka mas mataas na ngayon.

Kaya ko rin nalaman na kahit yung mga incapable of paying for the whole post-grad e natatanggap, kasi may mga kilala ako na nagquit dahil di na makapagbayad. They had to work muna para kumita.

^ and ^^ thank you! Yun kasi naiisip naming mga dahilan kung bakit siguro yung iba di nakukuha. Wish me luck mga sis! I really want to study in UST (naging loyal na.haha). Pero sabi nga nung kaklase ko, kelangan nya maging doctor hindi thomasian doctor. Ganun din naman ako, pero if possible, i want in UST na dahil kahit papaano nakaadjust na ako dun..

^ no problem sis! Basta apply ka lang sa mga choices of schools mo. Di naman talaga kelangan maging 'Thomasian doctor', pero di ba parang mas masarap mag-aral kung dun ka nakapasok sa gusto mong school?

^korek! gusto ko rin sa PLM at UE dahil maganda daw turo dito accdg to my professor na doctor aside sa fact na mas mura sa PLM (kaso hirap daw makapasok, pero i will submit my application din sa kanila).. Ateneo has medicine proper na rin pero true ba na need pa kumuha ng 5 year na business related/stuff na course?

And feu, ang layo kasi iniisip ko pa kung mag submit ako sa feu..

^ Ang alam ko kaya 5 years yung sa Ateneo kasi dual degree makukuha mo upon graduating, MD & MBA

FEU is in Fairview nga pala, malayo nga yun. Kahit na kami na taga QC na e nalalayuan pa. Kailangan talaga dun mag dorm / apartment / condo.

And so much of me wants to tell her she's crazy, and tell her to look at this ridiculous life I've had for the past 7 years, either studying 80 hours a week or working 80 hours a week, for far less than no money-- as a resident, I'm pretty sure I haven't yet earned back my tuition money, even if I didn't have living expenses to take into account, and of course I have living expenses to take into account-- having far less than no fun doing it. I mean, whatever rewards I thought there were to a career in medicine-- and I don't mean just financial, at all-- do not make themselves clear as a student or in residency. No one should want to spend this much time in a hospital. Anyone who enjoys most of residency-- really, truly enjoys the moment-to-moment work of a resident, most of the time, not just the very occasional non-torturous moments-- has something seriously wrong with them." - continued on the blogpost

Halo girls! Was just backreading trying to find answers kung saang school ako pwede magtake ng science units. You see, I graduated Communication Arts in one of the top 3 schools here in Manila and currently on my fourth year as a media practitioner. As a matter of fact, two years na akong burned out sa trabaho ko; that first year spent contemplating whether to pursue med or law. I later on realised that law isn't my thing and that I am more fascinated with science and the human anatomy. You may also ask me why I didn't shift to a pre-med course back in college. It is because I was too scared then to face Math (I actually failed Algebra during my freshman year) and I WAS just happy enough that I did not have to go through accounting and stuff. But now I kind of regret not being able to shift to pre-med Biology. I'm just too happy that my boyfriend is very supportive of me; nagpledge pa sya na pag nanalo sya sa Lotto eh pag-aaralin daw nya ako ng med. Sa isip-isip ko, kung sana regular ka tumataya, diba?! 

Sisses, please do help me! I am so willing to switch careers, even take on a part-time job while studying just so I could fulfill this dream of mine. Both my parents have retired already and ayaw ko namang maging pabigat pa sa kanila. TIA!

^kaya mo yan girl! Biology student ako and guess what? Math din ang kinatatakutan ko kasi nanibago ako sa math sa college. Pero wala naman ako bagsak.. I think you will take it seriously than what i did kasi last chance mo na yan. If ako kasi tatanungin, gusto ko ulitin lahat para mas nagsumikap ako kasi mukha namang kayang kaya na mataas ang GWA ko. Pero happy na rin ako ngayon kasi mataas na rin naman yun at the same time, di naubos energy ko sa premed. Kumbaga prinepreserve ko sya for med proper. Haha

Kaya mo na yan sis, lalo na dami mo ng experience. Thesis mate ko working student tapos sya pa pinakamatalino samin. Sobrang hanga lang ako. Bale sa school sya nagtatrabaho. Yung school na bahala magbayad sa tuition nya. Basta macomplete nya yung required hours ng work. Saka flexible yung work nya sa sched namin. So mas ok kung sa school mo ikaw mag work. Apply ka ng scholarship for working students.

^Hi sis! Ang plan ko nga dati magsesecond course ako ng Med Tech para kahit di ako makapasok sa med school at least pwede pa rin ako magwork sa hospital. I was actually THISCLOSE to taking exams sa Trinity kaso yung boss ko di ako pinayagan na magworking student, bilang erratic ang work schedule namin and undermanned kami. So there. Kaya I'm seriously considering na kumuha na lang ng science units, yun nga lang di ko alam aling schools ang pwede kong applyan. Any ideas? I'm thinking Trinity ulit since malapit lang dito sa amin. Then after I complete my units plus NMAT, plano ko mag-apply sa SLCM UERM or PLM. I'd love to try UST and UP sana kaso afraid much ako. As for my Alma Mater, ang layo naman bilang sa Cavite pa ata yung campus ng med school nila.
