meron ba ditong nag start ng medicine late 20s na? mahirap na ba mag med if nakapag work na and medyo matagal na naka grad? :)
hi sis, I for one entered medicine two years ago, after earning my pre med degree way back 2004. Spent approximately 5 years in Human Resources, eventually got burned out in the dog-eat-dog world of the industrial setting and realized that HR is not my cup of tea. Left my job, contemplated for a year as to what course to take up since i really intend to pursue further studies. tried my luck with clinical psychology while applying for medicine since di ko pa alam kung ano ang t take ko, but after thorough introspection, i went for medicine and i've never been this happy in my entire academic life. As for the adjustment period, it took me a year. yes, a year to finally adjust academically. its been 5 years since i last studied and since nag work ako at ibang setting pa, majority of the previous knowledge that I've acquired is gone, kung hindi man ay, later ko pa magagamit sa medicine dahil 3rd year pa ang psychiatry.Although medicine related ang Psychology, super kulang yung foundation ko. geared towards social sciences kasi sya and not with Medicine as opposed to nursing, bio and med tech :( another thing na nahirapan ako during my 1st year eh sa study habits. nung college kasi, i was a happy go lucky student/master crammer na kahit 1 hour before the exam lang ako nag aral, kaya ko pa makakuha ng above average results, akala ko its the same with med (although i was advised by my bestfriend na its a totally different world), so ayun ang ginawa ko, hala cram, kaya my grade suffered. It was only during second sem that somehow, I was able to establish my study habits but it was not enough. Should you intend to take up medicine, think things thoroughly kasi sabi nga ng mga doctor friends ko, kapag pumasok ka na sa medicine, make sure na wala ng atrasan. Good luck with your decision :)

^^ and ^ pag thomasians daw po yung 60-65.. Pag non thomasian yung 80-85.. Natanong ko na po. Hehe. Hehe.

^sis, ano po requirements sa PLM at st.lukes? Baka po kasi super mahal sa st. Lukes.. Hehe

st.luke's is 85%, i'm not sure though kung nasusunod yun kasi di masyado madami enrollement nila the last time i asked. last 2007 asked, tuition lang ata is around 85K+, tas 5 years dun sis, yung buong program nila kasi i think inintegrate na nila yung internship.

for PLM i don't remember na eh, i've inquired na dun 3 years ago, meron pa silang MCAT thing, i just can't recall the details na

madali lang ang MCAT sa PLM (for our batch at least). they have a list of reqs, punta na lang kayo sa med office. Hmm I think you can also inquire via phone.

But be wary though, once you fail 2 major subjects, kick out agad =(

I have a classmate na 25 na when she started med school. RN sya. 28 na ata sya ngayon.

For her, mahirap raw. Especially when taking orders from our residents na mas bata pa sa kanya.

Pero she says it's better than being a nurse. at least pag doctor, may progress. You get to order your juniors around in the future.

from what i've heard, there were only 2 applicants for AMA School of Medicine. kaya hindi na daw ito natuloy. if it's been around since 2004 pa, dapat may graduates na and i've never heard of graduates.

ü saka kung sino na rin pwede mag share about sa UST, especially the requirements.. Thanks..

i'm an alumna of UST FMS. yung requirements nung nag-apply ako years ago is different from the present requirements. dati, ang cut-off score sa NMAT is 65 (whether sa UST ka nag-take ng pre-med or not), ngayon 'ata tinaasan na nila. before, my interview pa kami and psychological exam. recently, psychological exam na lang, wala nang interview. the other requirements such as basic units for medicine, recommendation letters, pre-med transcript of records stay the same. we also applied personally sa UST med admin office. the latest NMAT score you can submit your score is december of the past year. the psychological exam is given on january the following year. the processing for eligible applicants take place after the exam until march then they release the list of eligible applicants come out around march to april. i don't know if the same pa rin ang pattern nila ngayon.

nowadays, you can apply online. that's all i can remember regarding requirements. hehe! matagal na kasi yun.

^thanks sis.. Mga what month ako dapat mag apply next year?

^ you have to verify the NMAT results. may naririnig nga ako na 85 score, though i'm not sure kung totoo ba siya or hindi & kung kanino ba siya applicable. however, having a high NMAT score doesn't necessarily guarantee you a slot. may iba pa silang criteria and mataas rin ang competition. marami kasing nag-a-apply even if the admissions committee get 500 applicants for 1st year. kung makasama ka sa "waiting list", there's a small chance na makapasok ka if someone gives up his/her slot.

kung third year ka pa lang, i suggest you re-take the NMAT on April 2011 hoping to get a higher score (latest is Dec 2011). when applying, you can declare either of your 2 NMAT scores dun sa application form mo. from what i remember, around September nagsimula silang magtanggap ng applications for Medicine. keep yourself updated regarding any announcements regarding their applications. goodluck to you!

I was 21 when I entered med school =) But I went through 1st Year TWICE coz I got diagnosed with ovarian cancer January of my first 1st year. Malas talaga.

I'm now 25 and on my 4th year. Uhm, PLM easily eliminates students =( As in on the 1st year, around 10 people ang kickout, and another 10 people na madedelay. Same thing happens up to your 3rd year.

Pero swerte mo naman if you get good grades, kasi magiging less than 10k/year ang tuition mo =)

And on your 4th year, as a medical clerk, ikaw na ang gagawa ng lahat ng blood extractions, IV lining, procedures, spontaneous vaginal deliveries, and even 1st assist sa OR, sa patients mo =) Hands on talaga, dahil government hospital sya.

Pinaka-masaya talaga for me ang mag-arterial fountain sa neonates sa NICU, coz they're the most difficult patients to get blood from.

For the theoretical part, kanya-kanyang aral per rotation. Although they still give lectures and exams mga once a week.
