^not helpful at all. better not join one. a big mistake. made me realize na kaya ko naman makagawa ng magagandang grades without their help. ang ploy nila ay they have samplex (sample exams) but never ever give in. better join organizations instead of sororities.

^ it depends kung ano-anong organizations ang mayroon sa medical school where you are enrolled. aside from different fraternities/sororities, some schools have their glee club, dance club, or clubs related to sports (i.e. basketball, etc), activity-related clubs like medical missions. for example sa UST FMS, mayroon Medical Missions Inc which is devoted to doing medical missions either dito sa manila and out-of-town, and AMSA (Asian Medical Students Association). you will definitely be oriented once you are enrolled.

personally, no. you can survive medical school even without joining any sorority/frat. if you're thinking na mas marami kang makukuhang sample exams kapag kasama ka sa mga sorority, well it's not true. plus, my probability na baka pagtripan ka ng mga superiors mo during clerkship & internship because you belong to a rival sorority/fraternity.

@ lil_mango: goodluck sa iyo.

@ vain jane: each school has their own rules/regulations regarding joining organizations/clubs.

thank you po for replying regarding the frat/sorority..ΓΌ siguro kung makapasok man ako sa med school, i'll look for an organization recommended/acknowledged by the school like for medical mission, etc. to enhance my skills and help..

re: frat/sorority, madami naman nakaka survive without joining one. choice mo yun.. ano ba reason why you thought of joining?

some schools like plm dont have much orgs other than sa mga frats... sa frat/sorority usually merong med missions, review, etc.

before you join, be sure lang na gusto mo talaga, hindi lang dahil sa SE. weigh mo lang yung pros and cons. :)

maraming pros ang orgs/frats/soros. among those in our batch who joined, ka-close na nila yung mga residents na sisses or brods nila. so mas madaling mag-refer, and ang rami ring connections in case magkasakit isang family member mo.

I myself have been an extension in my boyfriend's frat sa PGH. Girlfriend pa lang ako and they already treated me as an extension.

Meaning, we saved 100+k on 6 cycles of chemotherapy (20k/cycle). Sobrang laking tipid!

BTW, I had my first OB delivery room duty in OMMC yesterday and last night. Sobrang exhilarating magpaanak! They say we should enjoy delivering babies in OM coz sa ibang public hospitals, kaagaw mo pati residents O_o

Naku kung hindi lang talaga mabaho and makalat magpaanak, I'd consider OB-gyne sa OM.

30+ normal deliveries last night and 2lang kaming clerks sa DR. Tig-15 NSDs kami each T_T tapos episiorrhaphy each pa. Toxic!

Wow, yes sis I super agree! im not such a fan of the lochia-stink.
They say na mag OB daw ako, pero personally, i dont think mag eenjoy ako cause of the same reasons like yours  ;D

Doctors, I have a question. Kailangan ba na febrile ang pasyente pag kukuhanan ng blood sample for malaria test? Or that rule is considered obsolete? And what's the difference between a periperhal blood smear and malarial smear?thanks.;) info badly needed Lang po.

^ yes. malarial smear is done/taken at the peak of the patient's fever. it is during this time that the parasite releases trophozoites in the blood stream. thus, the smear result will become more accurate. otherwise, it will lead to false-negative results. sayang lang ang pera and the extraction.

generally speaking, peripheral blood smear (PBS) is a test to diagnose presence of immature and abnormal cells based from the complete blood count. it may be used to diagnose cases of anemia, blood dyscrasias. PBS looks at the morphology, number, function of the different cells in the CBC (red blood cell, white blood cell, platelet count).

malarial smear is taken just like when doing a peripheral blood smear (both have thick and thin smears). but when the smears are examined under the microscope, may special stain (Romanowsky) na linalagay sa specimen para makita yung presence (or absence) ng malarial parasites inside the red blood cell (RBC). it will just ignore the white blood cells, platelet count.

Thanks Doc! I did the right thing. So far,so good. ;) Mali kasi young ginawa ng mga nurses ahead of me, may order pero mali [textspeak!] way of doing so. I mean, hindi na sya dapat iorder na ulitin kung false-neg di po ba? :)

well depende na iyun sa attending physician ng patient if he/she will order for a repeat malarial smear (if sa tingin niya false negative yung unang result na lumabas). otherwise, it may not be repeated.

doctors make the orders, not the nurses.
