Interior Design Matters

Thank you sisters for your suggestions! Went to Home depot kanina in ortigas and grabe madami ngang good finds! Pati prices nila mas mura compared sa wilcon na limited lang ang designs, over pa sa mahal! Anyway just want to ask about laminated floorings, okay ba to if compared with vinyls? We have a limited budget kasi, kung tiles na 60x60 sa ground floor (25sqm) plus another set of tiles for the service area, I'm considering hardwood, vinyl or laminated flooring sa 2nd floor and bedrooms (total of 25sqm) plus the stairs. Pero syempre they differ in prices and quality. Need your inputs on this sisses! Thanks!

if budget is not an issue, hardwood (solid wood) talaga.

next is laminated flooring, low maintenance and similar sa look ng hardwood. just don't mop it with water kasi for sure magwa-warp flooring mo. damp cloth lang dapat.

cheapest i believe is vinyl but to get the look of a laminated or hardwood flooring, get the vinyl strips (yung pahaba yung cut like wood planks) not the squares ha. No warpping for sure pero be sure to use good quality adhesive para hindi matanggal sa future and be sure even yung floor mo kasi manipis lang yan so mafi-feel mo talaga if uneven yung flooring.

hi mdy,

if i remember right, if you use laminated flooring, you will need to lay plywood on the floor slab. this is so everything will be level before you install the laminated flooring material. you might have to add this to the total cost.

...forgot to say that the plywood would act as "nailer" or something coz you won't want to install the laminate on the slab.

Based on experience, you only need thin foam underneath the laminated flooring and no nailers or nails involved. The method of installation is called tongue and groove method. I think they also use adhesive but no nails or screws. Profiles or trimmings are also used for terminations like doors, stairs and the room's perimeter.

i plan to do some serious cooking in my condo kitchen. is it essential na magpakabit ako ng rangehood? hindi ba sufficient yung exhaust fan lang?

also, ano mangyayari pag di ako nagpakabit ng backsplash? will i ruin the wall?

^do you have a window in the kitchen? is your range behind the window or at least nearer sa window? pwede na exhaust fan dito. but if you don't have a window, pwede rin exhaust fan lang as long na powerful humigop ito. imo, hindi naman kasi necessity talaga ang rangehood kung kaya na ng exhaust fan mo.

as to the backsplash, not a necessity din. as long as you are able to maintain the cleanliness of your counter and spotlessness of your wall, pwede na rin punas punas lang.

di pa gawa yung unit ko sis, but i'm already researching. excited din kasi ako mag-imagine how i will fix it up. what i remember from the model unit is sa living room yung window so it will be several meters away.

if HEAVY cooking (like maramihan na pang-fiesta, hehe) and no nearby window or door, you really need a strong ranghood but also make sure na may provision for this kasi hindi siya basta-basta kinakabit. otherwise, filter-type hood is fine.

as for the kitchen splashback, if you have the range with cover, no need for splashback. if cooktop lang, i suggest you install one kasi sa likod lang ng cooktop area and not sa buong kitchen. the reason for this is to prevent wall stains from the (food) oil and maiwasan mag-bubbles ang wall paint from the heat of the cooktop.

You have to determine how much space you have & how much room our products needs. Sketch up a layout of the area and be sure to observe the location, levels and sizes of gates, windows, heating units, electric powered shops and changes.

our contractor installed the floor tiles first. mas makalat and madumi ang installation ng floor tiles e baka mabakbak or ma-smear yung walls pag nauna ang paint job.

mdy, tiling first before paint.  Didikit lang yung dust from the cement adhesive and tiles sa wall if unahin yung flooring.  you can do the wall primer while tiling but the 2nd and 3rd coating should be done after the tiling.

isbuko, here are some suggestions:

1. heavy drapes only, heavy drapes + sheer curtain or sheer only (same as you peg) for the window only.  The sheer curtain can block the direct sunlight (if your room is facing the morning/afternoon sun) but the natural light can still pass thorough it.

2. heavy drapes only, heavy drapes + sheer curtain or sheer only but with wooden valance covering the curtain rod or mechanism.  Its finish can be same as the wall (paint or wallpaper), same color as ceiling or in wood stain.  you can also put T5 to serve as covelighting.

3. heavy drapes only, heavy drapes + sheer curtain or sheer only for the whole stretch of the wall behind the bed.  This will definitely create drama to your room.

4. A simple roman shade will do.

5. A wall panel (not the solid one) or folding shutters as your headboard.  This can semi-block direct sunlight.  A good focal point for the bedroom.

6. Solid panels or folding screens.  If you want to totally block the window, this is the best way to do it.

Hi! Question lang po. We are planning na ipa-tiles yung sala namin. Any suggestions sa color at klase ng tiles na bagay sa kahit anong wall color? Any suggestions also kung anong brand and saan magandang mamili ng tiles? Thanks!
