i remember sa batulao sa new trail before it's either maputik (pag umulan) and maalikabok (pag maiinit). this has always been my default for day climb, di malayo, and good view sa summit. Last time i went there with my daughter nag enjoy siya

maalikabok nga nung pababa na kami. nagenjoy ako sa pagslide sa matarik na daan. feeling ko nasa slide ako.   pero pag-akyatan na hirap ako. kaya masaya ako at naabot ko ang summit this time. partida pa dala ko ang bag ko paakyat at pababa.

i decided to join my company's outdoor club and i found out it's mostly a hiking club. i enjoy hiking, but i haven't done it in a long time. the last climb i've done was pulag i think three years ago. my first was makiling when i was not quite out of college (2001/2). i've also done pico de loro (2002/3), wherein we got lost. half of our group made it to the top, the other half wandered into the waterfalls. and kasama pa sa naiwan was the one lugging our lunch around! buti na lang my mom and i brought a small coleman lunchbox with sandwiches and chocolates for the both of us. pinagtatawanan pa kami ng mga kasama namin noon because who even climbs with a lunchbox? yun pala, that saved us because after the long and torturous climb and trying to find our way, that housed the only food we had to fill our stomachs. hay, it was really a lesson on what to do and what not to do in a climb.

i took up diving in 2005 and hasn't been on that many (if any, other than the not-so-recent pulag climb) hikes since. but since i've voluntarily shoved myself in the hiking path once again, i'm keeping my eye on this thread.

RIP to the girl who died in Mt. Batulao

tragic fate befell a 27yo female hiker as she tried to scale the summit of Mt. Batulao which is host to an indeterminate number of open/fun climbs as it is known to be a fairly easy one to scale even for novices. i need help though, as this is my first climb sa pulag. they told me it will be super cold.
what are the climbing gear i need to bring (brands you reccomend? price range?)?
and where can i buy them?

^better bring a winter jacket na fleece yung loob and feather-filled. i bought a winter jacket at HMR at Pioneer st around 1k lang. but if you can really afford it, North Face has top of the line jackets pero expensive around 10k. 2 in 1 na yun, fleece jacket plus outer shell na nylon na pwedeng magkasama isuot pwede din i-detach.

plus bring the following
Raincoat
Trekking Pants/Jogging Pants, mas maganda if waterproof
Leggings - if you can find thermal, better
longsleeves
Gloves and Socks
Scarf
Bonet

during night time, i was on 2 longsleeves, 2 leggings and 2 socks plus gloves pero ang ginaw pa rin. when we went to the peak, suot ko pa rin yan plus the trekking pants saka winter jacket and bonet and scarf.

i think any comfortable rubber shoes will do. basta yung ready for any weather. tipong hindi ka manghihinyanag if maputikan. i was on nike free eh kaya ok naman. hindi din umulan so hindi naman maputik or anything. do not wear rubber shoes din na matagal ng nakatago sa cabinet, tendency kasi is nasisira agad once gamitin mo na. for new shoes naman, make sure nagamit mo na a few times to test the comfort. i-break in mo na. mahirap na if sa mismong trek ka magblisters.
