i just found out two days ago na me diabetis ang mommy ko.

So malaki ang chance na meron ako neto..buti nalang hindi ako mahilig sa sweets and soda...alcohol nlanag siguro ang dapat kong alisin and eat plenty of fruits to have a healthy life style.

cool ka lang jinjin. if you worry about it, baka you'll attract it!  :o

there are some tell-tale signs that you are chronically too high on sugar:
1- maraming kati-kati sa katawan (ke dandruff, o vaginal thrush, o athlete's foot, etc)
2- prone to singaw and coldSore;
3- prone to headache/migraines (the type na masakit yung tuktuk ng ulo);

as for energy drinks and most commercial sweet stuff: kapag may nakalagay na "syrup" sa ingredients, lumayo ka na. unfortunately most frozen yoghurt use fructose; pwera yata Red Mango.

Hi girls! I have type 2 diabetes. That means I have insulin resistance but not insulin dependent. I have controlled it very well for 5 years because when I was diagnosed I did not get depressed or scared. I was pro-active and right away I bought this book: http://www.diabetessolution.net/diabetessolution.php

It really helped me understand my disease and taught me how to constantly monitor my blood sugar and eat right. Medyo mahal sa test strips but it so necessary! My FBS is now 86 mg/dl , daig ko pa ang normal na person. I only take 1 Metformin in the morning and 1 at night and my goal is to eliminate it completely. You can get the book at any national bookstore or power books

Wow 86! That is amazing! Ako din type 2 for close to 3 years and it's still a hit and miss on the food that I should take. Hindi sha kasi one size fits all. Like what's good for some may just be okay for others. I'm still searching for which food combo has the best effect on my GI.

Sis Maita the link seems to be incorrect. What's the name of the book? Id like to get it too. Thanks.  :)

^ sis, the book is called The Diabetes Solution by Dr. Richard Bernstein. It's so helpful in understanding Diabetes talaga :)

I agree it's not one size fits all. In my first year of Diabetes, my mom complained a lot sa sobrang gastos ko sa strips because I checked my sugar at least 5 times a day. I told her nalang that if I don't do this, yung tinipid ko sa strips gagastusin ko sa ibang gamot in the future. I really tested my post prandial blood glucose two hours after introducing a food to find out if tumataas ang sugar ko. The worst foods for me now are rice (kahit brown), bread (kahit brown), noodles, cereal (kahit oatmeal), bananas, mangoes, grapes and other super sweet fruits. I try to totally avoid, but if I eat kahit konti of those foods na alam kong bad for me, I have to exercise at least 30 minutes at 80% heart rate to burn glucose. Most of the time, I eat non-starchy vegetables and meat.

Good luck mga sis! And pick up the Dr. Bernstein book. I like him because he's Diabetic also but learned to control his own diabetes. Yung ibang endo kasi natin, sinasabihan lang nila tayo to control our food hindi naman nila alam kung gano kahirap yun kasi hindi sila diabetic :) We can beat this.

Do you take any supplements with your metformin Sis?

Hay naku I should go back to monitoring again. It became too tedious kasi. But you got me so inspired! So beginning tomorrow game na ulit!!!  :D

^ I take Omega 3 and a multivitamin lang but that's mostly support for Asthma :) I read din kasi this book called the Allergy and Asthma cure. Pro-active na rin ako sa asthma.

Sis, let's support each other! Diabetes is reversible kung type 2 siya.

^ yes, lets! I'm trying to lose weight also sis :) Clue sakin that I'm not managing my sugar right is when I'm not losing weight from my efforts (siyempre given a reasonable time). Weight loss daw really helps insulin sensitivity :)

After a year na sobrang taas ng blood sugar ko (Type 2 Diabetes), finally controlled na. :) I started to change my diet and I exercise at least 3 times a week.

I am not taking any medications for my blood sugar anymore and I am so happy kasi yon talaga ang goal ko.

Goodluck mga sis! kaya natin to :)

^Sis I avoided white base carbohydrates tapos less fried food and fatty foods. Actually, mas bumaba ang blood sugar simula nong nagpaacupuncture ako. Hindi lang din kasi blood sugar ko ang nacorrect kundi pati na rin ibang illnesses ko like vertigo, overweight and body pains.

^ Great! Me naman I follow a Paleolithic Based way of eating. The principle is the same, avoid white based and starchy carbohydrates. But it made me more adventurous with veggies and protein sources. Mas madali talaga mag-manage ng sugar

mga sis, i have been pre-diabetic since 2008, but now after taking OGTT 11 weeks after kong manganak, after seeing the results of my OGTT, (265 2 hours after a 75gram glucose load) i think may type 2 diabetes na ako. i am exclusively breastfeeding my 11 week old baby pa niyan, pero ganyan pa rin kataas yung sugar ko after the 75gram glucose load. naiyak na ako kahapon nung nakita ko resulta ng blood test ko, next week pa punta ko sa doctor para ibigay yung results pero i'm almost sure na na-ididiagnose niya ako as type 2 diabetes.

here's my other blood test results:

FBS 75
HBA1C 5.6%

sana sana sana po may makasagot sa tanong ko. i really need someone to talk or to relate to about this,. as of now, in denial at devastated pa rin ako :(

^i check my blood sugar twice a day kahit nasa bahay lang ako. I am 30th week pregnant at simula nong 5th week pa lang nakainsulin na ako. Advice sa akin ng Endo ko, dapat daw tuloy ko pa rin mag insulin even after giving birth. Adjust na lang daw nya ang units.

You really need to monitor your BS sis kahit nasa bahay ka lang para mas aware ka din. Even before I got pregnant, monitor pa rin ako ng sugar sa morning pagkagising ko and before dinner.

Ganun ba talaga kadalasan?

Bakit daw kaya ipapatuloy sayo insulin (in adjusted doses) kahit after mong manganak?
