also, [textspeak!] ano mga places to go sa brunei? plan namin magvisit overnight (kaya ba ito?), plus how much mga magagastos for the trip?

To get to Brunei from KK, you need to take a ferry from Jesselton Point in KK to Pulau Labuan (3 1/2 hrs). Then take another ferry from Pulau Labuan to Muara in Brunei (1 hr).

Brunei is a bit more expensive than Malaysia - think Singapore prices for food and hotels.

It's such a small city - we only stayed here 2 nights. We're not the type kasi to do touristy things so we just walked around but liked it naman. There are museums. mosques and Jerudong Park seems to be their main attraction (we didn't go to Jerudong)

You can get around by walking. Not a lot of cabs because almost everyone has a car. There are purple buses run by the government and most trips cost 1 Brunei Dollar, these are usually used by workers. The bus system is quite efficient though and decent!

Btw, you can use Singapore dollars in Brunei because they are sister currencies. And vice-versa

I have booked tix from Airasia. Super sale lang sya. Travel period is in August. Excited na ko. This will be our nth time in Malaysia, pero super excited pa din kami. We are planning to visit Brunei naman side trip lang. Sana kayanin kasi 4 days naman ang  vacation namin. Matagal ang preps kaya mas ok.

between shangri-la rasa ria and tanjung aru, i prefer the former.. =) havent tried the other 4 or 5-star hotel and resorts in KK, only those from Shangri-la. =)

BTW, to anyone going to KK and travelling on a budget - please avoid this guesthouse called Summer Lodge. You will get eaten alive by bedbugs!!

I would recommend Rainforest Lodge which is just beside it. They have very nice rooms with big balconies! However, there is a cover band (incidentally they're Filipino) that plays nightly and it gets quite loud. You can tell the manager you prefer a 'quiet' room but you can still hear the music a bit. They have promos like stay 1 night and get 2nd night at 50% off or stay 3 nights get the 4th night free (we got the latter). It's around 100 RM per night. You also get free breakfast (toast, butter, jam, chicken nuggets, sausages, fried rice, fried noodles, coffee, tea)

just got back from KK with family ganda ng city proper nila.. madaming building pero ma green pa din..

We stayed at Lavender Lodge, highly recommended

^I still suggest you go with USD. You win a few RM. With peso the computation will come out like you converted the rates from Peso to USD then USD to Ringgit.

we were there last weekends (Feb 24 to 27) and we had fun ...kasama ko 2 officemates ko...we availed of Air Asia's promo (P500 roundtrip to KK)...we stayed at Crowne Borneo (RM 145 per night for 3 pax) for the first 2 nights and spent our last night at Sutera Harbour (RM 637 per night for 3 pax)...both hotels include free breakfast (Crowne - continental; Sutera - buffet)...may free airport transfer sa Crowne, sa Sutera wala..taxi going to airport costs RM30...but Sutera offers free shuttle going to and from city proper...

Allot P3k to cover bus fare going to clark (300 one way), airport tax (1620) and terminal fee (P600)...

Here's how our kota adventure went:
Day 1 - we arrived around 5:30pm at Kota Kinabalu...just had our dinner outside and watch musical fountain at Perdana Park which is walking distance from Crowne Hotel
Day 2 - went to city proper for our island hopping tour.  we visited 2 islands - manukan and mamutik. boat fare is RM25 per head for 2 islands.  entrance is RM10 per head (one time payment only regardless of how many islands u want to visit, just keep the ticket) and terminal fee is RM 7.2 each. we tried parasailing (cost is RM100 pero pwede tawaran, we got it for RM70 per head)...there are food being sold on both island...
we also went to 1 borneo mall after our island hopping tour.  there is a free shuttle going to 1 borneo mall in front of warisan square....travel time takes about 20 minutes...
Day 3 - since we have to check out at Crowne by 12 noon and check in at Sutera, we only have the morning for City Tour.  We went to City Mosque (free entrance), Puh Tu Tze temple (free entrance), and the Green Connection (RM 25 entrance fee)...hindi gaano maganda ang green connection..mas maganda pa yung ocean park natin....nyways, we didn't visit Mt. Kinabalu since we do not have much time, 2 hours travel rin kasi yun, medyo malayo...
we availed of the free shuttle from sutera to city proper and toured around the city (waterfront, esplanade and malls)..then spent the rest of the afternoon swimming at sutera and taking pix...hehe
Day 4 - had our buffet breakfast before finally checking out by 12 noon...
yes, it's like Philippines...but the experience and my travel buddies make this trip extra special

I need clarification please. Hindi ba tinatanggap yung 2006 series na USD sa Malaysia? or below 2006 series lang. Lahat kasi na dadalin kong USD eh 2006 series, baka mamaya walang tumanggap sa Kota

last year when we were in KK, may USD series nga sis na even sa bank di pwedeng papalitan, nakalimutan ko lang what series yun, naka-post naman in every money exchange shop what series yun.. but to be sure, bring the latest series of USD na lang or try mo papalit [textspeak!] to peso then buy ka uli ng USD na latest series, ok lang na malugi ka for certain amount kesa naman sa hindi mo magamit yung USD with old series.
