confusing talaga ang reviews regarding coconut oil kasi ang tinitignan lang nila will be the cholestrol content of coconut oil. true na mataas ang coconut content ng coconut oil pero isa ito sa may pinakamataas na heat tolerance.

olive oil has one of the lowest heat tolerance. ibig sabihin kapag nagamit ang olive oil sa high heat (let say sa pagprito or deep fry), mag bi-break down na ang molecules at magiging iba na ang effect nang molecule na yun when digested.

Olive oil when heated at high temperatures becomes carcinogenic. I've limited it to salads and spreads. I've been using extra virgin coconut oil and I think that I'll stick to it for now.

The mixed review on coconut oil if because of the fact that most studies have been commissioned by oil manufacturers in the US.  And the main agenda is to degrade coconut oil so they can penetrate the market.  Back in the 50's, 60's, until the 70's all manufacturers in the US use coconut oil which is not local to them, what they have are the corn, sunflower, canola and the likes.  These oil manufacturers partnered to thrash foreign manufactured coconut oil bec afterall they are the local ones.  Little did everyone know at the time that all these local oils are actually bad for the health.  It is only now that the US is realizing the bad effects of not using coconut oil anymore, with all the high cholesterol-diseases their population has.

Recent studies show that though coconut oil is high in cholesterol, this is actually good cholesterol.  Coconut oil has medium chain fatty acids which is the most stable and most healthy.

cooking oil depends on how u use it :)

deep frying or for pro-longed heat usage:
peanut oil (highest fat/heat conductivity)
palm oil / shortening
canola oil
any other vegetable oil

olive oil is for light frying or for salad dressings kasi it gets burn easily

hth. :)

Question: I've been using canola oil since i got married, i noticed in grocery stores that the color vary. Does the color implies the quality of the oil, meaning, the lighter color of the canola oil the more pure it is?

have you seen any store selling SAFFLOWER OIL? <------- one of the healthiest din...
I saw expeller-pressed Safflower Oil at healthy options around 350k for 946ml.

I use canola or sunflower oil na cold-pressed or expeller-pressed, kasi kapag chemical extraction, nawawala rin yung health benefits ng oil (i.e., yung mga omega fatty acids, etc.)
