we had combi and vertical blinds installed in our home last week..bale combi for the 6 windows, and vertical blinds naman for the huge window in the library and  sliding glass door sa 3rd floor...i initially wanted roman shade sana for my daughter's room but the suppplier said na ipha-phase out na daw nila since di daw masyado mabenta (?), so we opted for combi blinds na lang din.

yes. I use black-out curtains in all of our rooms. bale may sheer curtains pa akong pinalagay behind the black-out ones. IMO, I find the black-out curtains more practical than roman shades kasi I can have these washed kung dusty na. roman shades are harder to clean lalo na kung may stain. though I like the look of roman shades din.

Is it safe to machine wash grommet curtains?  Delicate cycle lang.  Di ba masisira ang rings?  Too heavy to handwash kasi ang mga blackout curtains... I had it custom made na per piece is 2.5 panels.

Mary Marlowe Leverette, About.com Laundry & Laundry Rooms, says that the odor may be caused by the finishing chemicals used during the manufacture of the curtains. It is probably formaldehyde. Unfortunately, there is no magic trick to get rid of the odor but here are some tips:

If the curtains are white, add 1 cup of borax to your wash load. Allow the tub to fill with water and agitate for a few minutes to disperse and dissolve the borax. Then, allow the curtains to soak for a couple of hours. This is not recommended for dark colors because there can be a color change.

For dark colors, use this same procedure except use 1 cup of baking soda.

Use an odor reducing product like Fresh Wave Odor Neutralizer, OdorKlenz or OdorXit. These are quite effective and don't just mask the odor with a perfume.

^^^ delicate wash lang?  Di mo ba linagay sa net bag?  I was thinking of having it dry cleaned lang.  Pero expensive!  $50 for only 1 bedroom!   

Btw, may nagpa custom made ba na 1 piece of curtain is more than 1 panel?  Ang bigat tuloy ng curtains ko when washed kasi 2.5 panels per piece siya...

^^1 panel of blackout drapes can't fit in a net bag. mine's 4. as these are heavy, I set our electrolux auto washer/dryer at mixed wash and 5 hours cupboard dry.

I was in Philippines recently and managed to buy 13 panels of curtains from SM Makati (Royal Linens ang brand). Ok naman sya though the shorter size is too short for our windows so we had to get the longer one and patabas ng konti. I'm back in Australia na and okay naman sya. Sabi ng saleslady blockout curtains sila but the blockout curtains in my daughter's room (we bought them here kasi she likes sleeping in the dark talaga) eh talagang mas makapal and I can say yun ang blockout. Nevertheless, ok naman ako dito sa nabili ko kasi I love the prints I got pati throw pillow covers bumili rin ako.

Hi girls we badly need a black out shade for our room. Binibili lang ba ito and ready to install or may kilala kayong gumagawa na imemeasure na lang yung windows?

^usually made to measure ito sis. but if your windows are standard in height naman, there are black out curtains at sm department stores for around 600 per panel.
