Window Treatments: Curtains, Blinds, Shades, Etc

How much is the mechanism for the Roman shade?  Is the China counterpart really of inferior quality?

Sayang naman ang layo nga lang sa amin ng Shell Canvas. Naiinis na ako sa mga curtains ko na nabili sobrang manipis.

Shell Canvas may sale pa rin sila the last time I check.  By the time we transfer to our own house I am planning to have my curtains custom made. Unti untiin ko na pagbuy ng mga tela, the last time ang thick ng tela sa Shell Canvas just for 100/yard.

we had ours made sa Tutuban. we prefer customized kasi medyo malaki yung window and if gawa na, usually maliliit lang yung per panel so pangit na tingan pag sobrang daming panel na nakasabit.

for small windows, may nakita sa our home. nice naman ng designs. yung iba nga lang medyo baduy na.

I want our curtains customized here too. In Australia kasi, my brother spent $5k for custom made curtains, yun pang hotel talaga sa kapal. Pero my gosh, I'm not spending $5k on CURTAINS! Of course ipapaship pa overseas, but still, I dont think it's gonna add up to $5k. Napaka outrageous nung price na yun for curtains lang!!

what are the good brands to look for in roller shades?

My son's bedroom is cool during the morning but becomes really hot during the afternoon. Doon kasi nakatapat ang araw kapag hapon. I am currently on the lookout for the best window treatment na effective sa pagblock out ng init o kung hindi man, at least mabawasan talaga ang init sa kwarto.

The heat in his room during the afternoon is quite unbearable more so during the summer.

What window treatment would you recommend to solve this problem? I've browsed the net and found the likes of honeycomb shades, cellular shades, etc but I'm not really familiar with them and I don't know if they're made or available locally. How about roman shades, roller shades, or curtains?

Will greatly appreciate your opinions/feedbacks.

How about window tint?
Or combination of sheer curtains and block-out curtains. In the morning, you can push to the side the bock out curtains and just make use of the sheer curtains for privacy. Then during noon, use the block out curtains to totally cover the window.

gulaysk, we have blackout roman shades in our bedroom, behind heavy curtains pa. keeps light from penetrating through as in minsan di ko alam umaga na pala. but if the windows are open and shades are down, wala din papasok na air.

if your only problem is the sun and the heat coming from it, i think this is what you need. pero kailangan may electric fan or aircon pa din kasi walang papasok na air nga from outside even if the windows are open.

^ yes, yan nga. but it depends on the material din kasi pag light fabric, light will penetrate pa din. others put  lining.

our blackout roman shades are not fabric - white na parang pang tent yung material so they're really opaque. i opted to have those kasi may curtains pa naman ako. some kasi use the roman shades as window treatments na talaga na yon lang so it should suit the design of the room.

^ meron yata. meron din sa our home. not sure lang how much. customizable din naman yata ang size. maganda kasi siya kung super exacto sa size ng window lalo na kung blackout shades kasi otherwise, may papasok na light na pa din sa mga gilid.

i had mine custom-made by a cousin-in-law who is into that business. pina-extra ko lang when they weren't too busy.

there are shades that block out UV rays and limit the amount of heat that will enter the room. This would be a bit pricey though but it is a nice option to look into.. Verosol is one of the Brands that carry this kind of Shades, i think it is available in the philippines but most of it is for commercial application  but they do entertain clients for residential purposes.

that product looks nice and they mention having solar protection. ask the Supplier for the Technical Aspect like blocking UV rays etc. but if they minimal solar protection it would be ok since those with High UV protection are very pricey and for use in commercial/office/hospitality application.

sarahsensible, those are used mostly sa offices yata.

sa office, i sit by the window and we have vertical blinds with roll-up shades behind. the shades are good because it reduces light coming in so it minimizes glare. but light comes in pa din.

the main reason why we had the blackout shades installed in our room was to block out light para when we watch DVD, it's dark in the room. it's not really because it's mainit but the shades helped with that too.

so i guess if you really want the room to be dark, the roll-up shades may not be enough?
