You and your husband's money
« on: June 04, 2009, 02:24:29 pm »
How do you handle your money?  There are couples kasi na isa lang ang naghahandle ng money like yung money ni husband ibibigay sa wife and others naman they handle it by themselves (sort of kanya-kanya).

Kayo, which one works for you?  :)

for us, traditional way na binibigay sa akin ang salary nya as the wife pero humihingi din sya or nagpapaalam-- minsan nagbibiro na lagyan naman daw ng laman ang wallet nya.

One year pa lang kaming married (and we have a baby daughter). Nung bagong lipat kami sa house (we're not renting), ako lahat gumagastos sa bahay kasi minimal lang naman talaga gastos like sa food lang naming dalawa. And since working kami pareho e breakfast-dinner lang kami sa bahay. Bills namin nun e less than 2k pa.

PEro ngayon we have a baby na, plus a yaya, last month I tracked our expenses, made a list of all possible expenses, then I made a "this-is-not-a-love-letter-letter" kay hubby stating yung mga expenses kay baby, sa food, gas, insurances, house things, etc.

Naka categorize sa weekly (yung food), monthly (tung sweldo ni yaya, bills, immunizations ng baby, diapers, milk, etc.) and mga as the need arise expenses (car maintainance, clothing, toys ni baby)

Then may proposal ako sa kanya na this amount e hihingin ko from his sweldo, every 15th of the month.

Start kami this June.

yung savings we both have our own, and we both add to our 'common funds', which is a dollar account. iba pa yung sariling $ accts na pinag kukunan namin ng pera pag umaalis kami.

We just got married pero matagal ng ganto style namin ni hubby. Every payday he gives me a certain amount for our joint savings and yung expenses sa house. But we've agreed that when I get pregnant, he's giving me 50% of his salary na. Hind eko kase masyado pinapakelaman money nya since I'm working din naman.

there was a similar thread na before on how couples handle their finances. not sure kung na-archive na.

when we got married, ang set-up namin kanya kanya. meron kaming assigned bills and meron ding mga hati kami like groceries.

a little over a year into our marriage, when we bought a condo, we began to pool our money. lahat ng sweldo namin goes to our joint account. everything comes from here - for bills, food, etc. then we each have a monthly allowance for daily expenses (food, gas, toll, parking) plus may monthly shopping allowance din kami that you may choose to spend as you like or set aside. this set-up works very well for us.

every december, we make a monthly plan for the next year so we can project which months have high expenses (like for insurance payments for example). this is helpful because we know when we have extra cash and when we need to scrimp a bit.

walang talagang in-charge sa pooled money namin. we are both responsible enough to update our spreadsheet when we make withdrawals from the account. and we both know to check the state of finances before we make any unplanned purchases.

pero ako ang in-charge sa pagbayad ng bills - the act of paying, as in to make sure i pay the bills on time.

Kami walang agreements. I don't ask for his salary, pero lahat ng expenses sa kanya. Then I have 1 atm from him na nilalagyan nya ng money every payday, and sabi nya sa akin daw yon kung ano gusto kong bilhin pero hindi ko naman ginagalaw :) he has 4 more savings account na though hawak nya yung mga atm's, binigyan nya ko ng online access sa lahat so I know yung figures.

I have a job with good pay naman, so I don't demand anything from him. And wala pa kaming baby so wala pa gagastusan.

Yeah, there was a previous thread on this.  And the discussions were good.  :)

There is, technically, no "his"  money nor "my"  money.
Everything is "family" money coz well, we own and operate businesses ... so it is more complicated.

At the end of each year,  after the accountants turn in their reports for both family and business funds --  we 2 sit down and assess the past and budget for the coming year,  and assess vs our medium-term goals.

Whatever we set for the coming year (budgets, ceilings, investments, priorities) -- I manage.  Everything coming in and going out, I keep a tight watch on.  I also decide where to invest idle funds.  But when it comes to long-term investments (real property purchases, bonds/financial instrument investments over a year) -- I clear up 1st with my husband.  Anything under a year, I decide on.

I have proven my competence and trust worthiness, as well as ability to keep separate family vs business funds and expenditures --  so my husband does not bother keeping track of my financial management.  He says once at the end of each year is enough, unless I bring something up to his attention/for his consultation.

Going back to my earlier statement -- TECHNICALLY, there is no "his" nor "my" money.  (BUT in my mind:  What is yours is mine; what is mine is also mine"  LOL))
However,  I do have my own investments and funds that I keep solely for my own purposes (which he knows of vaguely; that I  intentionally and meticulously keep away from his knowledge).   But that is another topic, the "secret funds", that has likewise been well discussed in a previous thread.    :)

i think a similar thread is in the delicate balance...

in our case, i have always handled the money because i'm the saver and hubby's the spender. i'm also more familiar (being the proactive one) in how to handle the finances.

although hubby earns 4x more than i do, when we got married, i had way more savings than he. he was also in a huge credit card debt, which he has since cut down significantly because of my insistence.

heniway, hubby gives me the money for the household bills like electricity, insurance, grocery, car payments, etc. i pay for the part-time maid, water bill, etc. basta all the household bills, ako ang humahawak ng pera for payments. whatever is left in hubby's money is for his allowance. bahala siyang ibudget yun until the next sweldo. kung kapusin siya, sorry siya. umabsent siya kung gust niya. :D

For my parents naman, since we have a family business, iisa lang money nila.  Meaning, kanya kanyang gastos (walang nagcocontrol).  Lahat ng bank accounts nasa pangalan nila both (plus mine).

at first, we used to combine our salaries. kaya lang feeling ko unfair for me kasi, first, almost the same lang ang salary namin. 3rd, nashoshort kami sa budget. sa dami ng expenses namen, kung ang salaries namen are spent just for our family,we wouldnt be out of budget. so i talked to him in a nice way naman and told him na kanya kanya nalang kami ng responsibilities. si hubby pays for the bills, ako naman sa food, baby and yaya. this works best, atleast for me..hehe.. kasi now he knows kung hanggang saan lang siya pwede magbigay ng money sa mother and brother niya and hindi rin ako nacocompromise. what im planning to do next is to have a joint acct and a secret acct inspired my sis aquacharly!  ;) ;) ;)

so we came to an agreement. Basta lahat ng expenses sya, with a budgeted amount agreed by us both. Unfair din naman sa kanya kung walang budget d b, since I handle the funds.

Anything beyond the budget, ako na sasalo (may work din naman kasi ako).  most often kasi, plus/minus sa ibang expenses, lumalabas on-budget kami.  kung say mahal kuryente, ibabawas ko nalang sa pang-shopping etc.

Sweldo ko naman, I keep.  Wala lang, sakin nalang yun. :D  I do treat him from time to time din - for vacations etc. kasi I do the planning.  For investments, kanya-kanya din kaming diskarte.  We consult each other and discuss if we are not in agreement.  Kung may hindi parin napag-agree, postpone muna, then revisit the issue again in due time.  Big ticket items, kelangan 2 kami - house, car, etc.  Pero for gadgets etc hindi na, hard to keep track at addict hubby ko sa mga gadgets.

my hubby and I are not actually legally married yet.. live-in lang.

so far, rent, bills etc on me. Im also buying a house now with my own money kapag nakalipat kami looks like akin pa din monthly amort and all bills.

mabigat pero since i have bigger salary, 3x than his.. i can still cope. he is saving naman for a replacement ng car nya.

we however agreed na once things are settled na sa new house, we will discuss finances again. in my case, better sa akin na malinaw all the expenses sa house ay akin.. and sa akin nakapangalan ang house.

i hope though someday he will also have bigger share sa mga expenses namin kasi gusto ko rin bumili own car ko.. hehe

every payday, automatic, a portion of our salary goes directly to our daughter's account. sometimes, the savings will come from his sweldo, then mine ang gastos sa house, sa kanya din ang immunization ni baby and maintenance ng car. :)

may time deposit account ako pero para sa baby ko yun.. alam niya naman and walang problema..

yung salary kasi ni hubby since low profile siya hindi ganon kalaki pero I am very much thankful to God kasi nakakatulong talaga sa everyday needs ng baby namin.. weekly ang sahod niya so binibigyan nya ako ng 1k para kay baby..yung matitira sa kanya na yun.. and besides ayokong nawawalan siya ng sariling pera..

ako naman ok ang sahod ko compared sa kanya pero syempre hindi ako makakaipon kung sakto lang talaga..so i decided to apply na rin talaga and mas priority ko yung malapit sa amin.. laking savings din kasi eh kung malapit ka lang.. :)

i handle all of our finances. Big ticket items we talked about but I pretty much handle everything. It used to be na ask lang sya ng ask ng money from me but masyadong nagiging magastos. So last month, we decided on a certain allowance for him for each pay day that he can do with as he please. I also asked him to stop using his CC for a while - emergencies only.

wow! dami ko natutunan...

as for me naman since we are not yet married but we do have a son, lahat ng expenses sa kanya.dati nung nagwork pa ko hati kami sa expenses sa baby since di pa din kami magkasama sa bahay nila.pero nung nag resign ako at kinuha na nila ako to live with them sya na ang gumagastos for us. except lang dun sa mga bills na mommy nya ang nagshoulder.  they are even paying my sss and philhealth under voluntary contribution.  as per the salary of my partner, as much as possible di ako nakikielam.  ask ko lang sya how much ang salary nya.  kung bigyan nya ko ng allowance ok lang kung di naman ok lang din.  kasi di naman sya madamot sa pera kapag kailangan ko at meron naman sya binibigan nya ko. pero based dun sa mga nabasa ko i need to focus now sa pag save namin...kasi wala kaming savings, son lang namin ang meron...

thanks for sharing...

For us, we handle our own money.  Si hubby naman doesnt care sa sahod ko eh, pero nakikialam sa sahod niya, but of course I make it a point na hindi naman sa tipong nasasakal na siya.

Depende din kasi sa couples yan eh, for us kasi since LDR kami, I really dont have direct hold ng money niya, nagpapadala lang siya samin, and kung magkano man yun, pinagkakasya ko na [textspeak!]...

But minsan nagkakaron kami ng misunderstanding, most especially kung malalaman kong nagpadala siya sa parents niya ng hindi ko alam and lagpas sa pinag-usapan namin.
