These were the 3 models I was checking out earlier. There's another one by LG which is almost half the price of these 3 but I forgot to jot down the details:

Panasonic
Whirlpool
Electrolux

My husband wants to get a whirlpool for dependability daw. Theirs lasted for 20 years but Im thinking baka iba quality since it's in Europe. But I when I told him about the reviews here, he was leaning towards electrolux. Looks-wise I'm leaning towards Panasonic. (yes ganun ako ka-babaw). But seriously Panasonic is ain't bad. We have a 6yo 7cu ft (i think) Panasonic from my husband's bachelor days. It has serve us well but with the growing family the space is not enough for us anymore. 

With electricity consumption, we dont have any problems cause we live in a PEZA zone so rates are lower compared to other areas. But I told my husband I want to invest in a ref with inverter tech at least if ever we decide to move out this area, hindi naman kami matataga sa kuryente.

Mga sis, help naman... Yung bang semi-auto defrost matrabaho? I googled it and ang sabi, with the push of a button, the freezer will defrost. Tapos yung water mapupunta sa pan sa bottom ng ref.

My ref is whirlpool frost-free kaya di ko alam how semi-auto defrost really works... Paano pag nag defrost ka, dapat walang laman ang freezer and ref? Kasi diba ma-spoil ang food pag bumaba ang temp? Or yung freezer lang ba ang affected pag nag defrost?  how often ba ang pag defrost ng ref?

Worth it ba ang semi or dapat frost-free talaga?

Any brands you can recommend?

Any input would be of great help.

The whirlpool here is what i have at home. I've had it for about 3 yrs and i've had no issues so far.
In terms of electric consumption, i cant comment kasi im not very particular about it. Basta alam ko mabilis sya gumawa ng ice and no food spoilage.

Kasi yung whirlpool ko 175 watts nakasabi sa back ng ref. No frost sya, 12 cu ft.

Tapos yung panasonic NR BW414VSPH with inverter 230 watts, 14 cu ft.

Kung may inverter mas cheaper pa rin ba magiging electric bill nya? Kasi sabi sa panasonic save 50%.

cindylulu, yup, we're getting the no frost na. Para mas happy naman yung recipient with less work. Ayoko lang kasi ma shock sila if ever sa meralco bill. Hehe... Issue naman ngayon if to get one with inverter. Sabi kasi sakin baka sirain daw pag may ganun...

^having a ref or an aircon with inverter tech is not sirain sis. it is in fact the contrary. inverter tech as developed by the japanese helps reduce power consumption by controlling the power setting thru variable compressor speeds instead of just turning on and off as in a conventional ref. when you analyze it, mas sirain ang conventional. kasi when you turn it on, full power agad. kaya mataas din agad ang spike ng kuryente kasi biglaan. have you observed the spike in electricity cost lalo na after you turn on a conventional appliance after a brownout? unlike ref or aircon with inverter, when you turn it on, kokontrolin ng compressor ang pag akyat ang kuryente hanggang sa aabot sya sa optimal power setting, not necessarily full power agad. our ref is an electrolux (locally, panasonic inverter ref is also very efficient) and our aircons are panasonic eco-inverters, imagine the savings we're having every month.

Yung electrolux ETM 4200 SB na isa sa choices namin is phased out na daw per anson's makati. So now we're left with the panasonic NR BW 414 VSPH, but i've read in this thread about panasonic's door (not this particular model naman) falling off... Hay. What to do? What to do? 

I hate buying big ticket items in manila. Di kasi pwede isoli pag di ka happy sa performance.

and really phased out na ang EMT4200SB says anson?? parang i won't believe it. e part ng eco range collection ng electrolux ito and it's a new model ha. last year lang to. ours is ERE 6100SX na kasama rin sa eco range. and last year lang din ni-launch ang eco-range collection a. have you checked with sm appliance sis?

bargainsassymom,  sa US kasi its easy to return purchases. Stores dont give you a hard time making a return or exchange. Sa atin kelangan mo pa ng attorney.

I returned a rice cooker once. Dapat cool to the touch yung body pero umiinit sya. The store wont take my word for it. Tinest pa nila talaga and i had to wait at least 45 mins pa for that... Sa US, i returned a rice cooker also because i didnt cook evenly. I just walked up to the CS and told my case.  I got my money back in a snap.

Plus 7 days for a return is such a short period. Sa US 30 days usually. Some even 90.  So you have time to decide talaga if you're happy with your purchase or not.

Sorry if im comparing PHL to the US. I just wish kasi na our stores give customer satisfaction top priority din.

Just backread, samsung nga yung may cases ng bad doors... Yung panasonic may feedback naman of not cooling properly. Waaah. Hirap talaga.

Yes, sis, phase out na daw. Dunno which ansons exactly,  But its in makati. Ask ko uli yung friend ko bukas. And i'll ask him to double check with sm na rin.

Ps: accurate ba yung wattage ng appliances sa Meralco appliance calculator?  Kasi yung panasonic ref 14.6 cu ft, with inverter, 120W per info from ansons. Tapos pag tingin ko sa meralco app, yung 120W is for regular 7cu ft ref lang. I dunno if i missed anything sa math.  Or ganun ba talaga katipid yung may inverter kasi parang sobrang liit eh?

Oh so that whirlpool I saw is relatively old na pala If you said you have it for 3 years already.

Is it true that inverter technology, though "new" in the country, is not really the most up to date? An SA mentioned something about adaptive technology which is supposed to be the best one now. I tried researching but it doesn't give me any significant hits. I'm planning to finalize my purchase next week. Next week pa makukuha ng relative namin yung old ref.

^^you're right sis. we went to sm appliance today and the sa said phased out na raw ang emt4200sb and it was replaced by ETE 4407SD-RPH. the reason - electrolux replaced the doors with round bar instead of of flat bars.

^that's right sis. phil is a little behind in applying modern tech. i sound like an sa of electrolux, but our ref is part of their eco-range collection which uses adaptive defrost technology. it means that the defrost heater is automatically turned on only when necessary so there are fewer defrost cycles.

the difference is: inverter tech pertains to variable speed compressors. adaptive tech pertains to the adaptive defrost controls and is limited to refs and heaters and is widely applied in europe.

Whirlpool has energy saving models na pala. They call it 6th sense. I dont know how new, but i just saw in their website. So now we're reconsidering it. If you're on the market for a black ref, you may want to check it out.

Im thinking of crossing out panasonic from our short list kasi the bottom mount freezer is swing type. Mahirap ata mag lagay at alis ng stuff. The model with the drawer type naman is out of our gift budget na.

Electrolux is on our short list but im a bit worried kasi we dont have any experience with this brand. Wala ata kaming appliance maski 1 na electrolux. And the only reviews i get are from US websites. And medyo not good pa. Although not the same models naman na we're looking at.

May Lemon Law sa US kaya di mahirap magbalik ng item. OK din ang inverter, ang binili namin LG i forgot the model kakabili ko pa lang like wala pang 1 week hahaha ok naman saka naglagay kasi si hubby ng timer ng ref so automatic na mag off and on siya for a certain time para makatipid din ng kuryente

Wag ka bibili ng samsung ref as in bULOK! we have 3 samsung na ref wala pang 1 yr sira na agad bowngga! tapos yung mga technician nila di alam gagawin ahahaha sasakit lang ulo mo sa samsung.
