Dual citizenship - ok ba?

^Hmmm...8 months that's good. Hopefully I'll have a year or 6 months left on my Phils passport once I get my US citizenship. I also plan to travel to Pinas kasi after I get my citizenship. So after your oath taking, how did you get your IC card? Did you went to the Phils embassy and took an oath again? Should we do it right away after we get the US citizenship or do we have to wait first? Will my Phils passport be not acceptable/invalid once I take my oath for US kahit hindi pa expired? How does it go? From your experience....

yung cousin ko [textspeak!]-am and dual passport na din siya. so far okay naman siya kahit sa pag work ok lang hindi naman nagkaka problem.  hiningan lang siya ng mga supporting documents kung filipino ba talaga siya, then good to go na

^^ oops! my bad. its not IC card, just IC. certificate printed on a letterhead.

for DC, you have to fill out a form, submit it to the philippine embassy together with other requirements. when you take your oath you;ll be given your IC (identification certificate) and order of approval (citizenship retention and re-aquisition).  all done in a day... there's no waiting period. as long as you have all the requirements, then go ka na sa phil embassy.

for sure your US oath-taking invalidates your phil passport... i just dont know if you can still use it when you apply for DC. i forgot to ask the embassy peeps.  but i would also like to know because mine will expire next year pa.

^Ohhh okay. Thanks.  I guess I'll just have to ask about the passport thingy. But if peeps here experience that re: passport (if you can use your still not expired Phils passport after you take US oath then got your dual) please share it here.

^I've asked the embassy about the passport too and yes, invalid ang passport mo once you've taken the oath. Although I wouldnt know how theyd enforce that or how theyd even knnow. Baka honesty system.

I've submitted my application already on sept. 29 and Im just now waiting for my interview and test. Im done with my fingerprinting. Bilis nalang pala ngayon.

^Do you mean if you're a US citizen born in the Philippines and wants to get papers for proof na dual ka? If so, yup sa US embassy ka makakuha noon. Kailangan din your parents was able to registered your birth sa US embassy. I think it cost $65 for your papers. Iba din ang cost for your US passport. Regarding giving up your Filipino citizenship mga sisses, I'm not too certain but you might loose your right to own a land in the Philippines.  It might be helpful in the future.

^Correct me if I'm wrong but from what I understand is that once you become a dual citizenship you can still own property in Pinas.

Hi sis, yeah, I believe you can.  What I meant was if you give up your citizenship, you can't buy land sa Pinas, sayang naman.

sorry if medyo stupid ang tanong ko. nag-nose bleed ako sa pag-backreading. ang situation ko ay ganito:

US greencard holder for 5 years, i know this means I can apply na for US citizenship. I want to retain my Filipino citizenship kasi I still plan to retire in the Philippines someday. Paano ba mag-apply ng dual citizenship?

mag aaply ba muna ako ng US citizenship then once that is approved saka ako magapply ng dual citizenship? nalilito kasi ako talaga wala akong kakilala na mapagtatanungan ko. i need a step by step instruction on how to become a dual citizen of US and Pinas.

saka ano ba ang pros and cons of becoming a dual? wala naman taung confilicting laws with US laws di ba? saka ndi naman [textspeak!] at war sa kanila so I don't see any reason not to take advantage of becoming a dual citizen. a dual citizen ba is considered less than a full citizen? like in forms of help, government position, etc? or is it basically the same benefits?

when you become a naturalized US citizen (after your oath-taking),you have to fill out a form (Application for Reacquisition/Retention of Citizenship) and submit it to the Phil. Consulate that has jurisdiction over your state. I think $50 ang fee.

kailangan ba mag-apply ng Reacquisition/Retention of citizenship right away pag nakuha mo na ang US citizenship mo? may time limit ba ito or can I apply kahit kailan?

help naman po mga sis, my 3 yr. old son is a US & phil passport holder & we will be having a flight on 0ct.17 PHIL-US, almost 12 hours flight(by phil. airlines), this is my question: do i need to get him an exit clearance certificate or any documents na kailangan namin i present sa immigration on the day of our flight? nagwoworry kasi kami ni hubby na magkaron kami ng problema.. thank you in advance sa lahat ng pagrereply

I just realized that I have been paying all these ECC fees unnecessarily, without anyone in the immigration telling me (i'm not surprised)

Everytime I travel to the Phils, the most I stay is for about 2 weeks. I still go about and present my recognition ID to the immigration officer and they process me as a balikbayan when I enter, AFTER ASKING how long I need to stay there (and thus knowing that I don't need to stay long and can enter without a visa). When I leave, they still assess about P3000+ ECC fees. This time, after getting married and getting a new last name, and passport, I left behind the recognition ID thinking that it would be a hassle now that I have a new name.  I enter as a tourist using my US passport, and leave as a tourist, with no FEES or anything.

Yun lang, tips sa mga hindi napapaliwanagan sa immigration sa pinas. Had I known better, i would have saved moneyyy. So for our fellow FN members who are US passport holders and will not stay in the Philippines for I think more than 21 days, just present your passport and no need to mention about your dual citizenship, as you will end up paying more fees.
