Dual citizenship - ok ba?

i would like to know sana if it's easy to reacquire philippine citizenship... if you need to apply for a new phil passport even if the last one's still valid (nage-expire ba yun automatically once one pledges allegiance to a foreign country?)... and will the dual citizenship complicate your status in both countries?

please share whatever you know about this matter.

Magfifill in ka lang ng form then around $50 ata [textspeak!] bayad.  Submit mo yun sa Phil embassy na may jurisdiction kung saan ka nakatira. 

Kung may foreign passport ka na (let say US passport), di mo naman na kelangan ng Phil passport.  Just use your new country's passport.

^ im doing some research although online lang, im hoping nga na may book about this topic eh.

anyway, i read na advisable daw to present both passorts (foreign and phil) sa immigrations sa manila... pero pag dating sa US, yung blue passport lang... sana nga pwede 1 lang gamitin.

^ sis pwede na walang phil passport, yung certificate mo na lang daw yung ipapakita mo sa immigaration sa manila at yung foreign passport mo ang tatakan nila. Yun ang sabi sakin nung taga embassy pagkatapos kung mag oath, kaya hindi na nila ako pinag file pa ng bagong philippine passport.

i was expecting na maraming dual cits dito sa forum. i was wrong.

sa chicago ako sis, nagfile ako ng 1st week sa march, pagka april 3 nakapag oath na ako. Then after a week ata na natanggap ko na certificate ko.

May mga statements ba doon that can compromise your US citizenship?

eveska, thanks for the info. i guess iba-iba depende sa embassy. yung friend ko kasi 1 day lang lahat, pero sa LA naman sya.

ps: yung certificate ba parang yung sa US din - may picture?  (sorry dami kong questions. hehe)

grumpybear, i guess we have the same concern... based on what i gathered online, here's the oath:

"I _____________________, solemny swear (or affrim) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the Republic of the Philippines and obey the laws and legal orders promulgated by the duly constituted authorities of the Philippines; and I hereby declare that I recognize and accept the supreme authority of the Philippines and will maintain true faith and allegiance thereto; and that I imposed this obligation upon myself voluntarily without mental reservation or purpose of evasion."

Actually hindi pa naman ako US citizen. Phil. citizen pa din ako because I've been holding off on applying for a US citizenship because I want to make sure wala talagang sabit ang dual citizenship. If meron, I'd rather not apply for US citizenship.

So meron bang disadvantages ang pagiging dual citizen?

yikes! royal blue background ba? kala ko white pwede na. dun kasi sa link na nabasa ko walang specified color.

i better call the embassy before going there to apply. baka kasi iba na requirements.

so far nakita ko online:

like if you apply for a job (in the US) with high security  clearance... and if you run for public office... dual cit may post a concern daw.

ang hirap mag research on US-PHL... madami sa online US-Indian issues.      so i guess its a good sign for us. siguro pinoys dont encounter any probs kaya no there are no stories circulating on the internet.... so go, go, go na!

^sis yun din akala ko na yung white background ay okey na, pero hindi tinanggap yung akin, kaya nagpa picture ako ulit mabuti nalang at nasa same building lang din, parang contact na sila sa embassy kasi mga pinoy din. Ang dami ko ngang nasayang na id kasi sabi doon sa form na dinownload ko galing sa site nila, kailangan daw may front view, left side view at right side view, tapos pagdating ko sa embassy di na daw yung form kaya dami kung nasayang na pera para sa id ko at sa mga anak ko pa.

^ naku, sayang nga pera mo.  mahal pa naman pa-picture dito sa US.  sa costco nga $5 for 2 pcs passport size, cheap na sa lagay. kino-compare ko kasi sa pinas. hehe. ewan ko nga kung may royal blue background sila kasi white lang nakikita ko.

check the US laws re: dual citizenship. If dual ka ba, tapos for example, nagkaproblem ka, matutulungan ka ba nila or hindi. Like mine kasi, dual ako, filipino and BNO. But I read sa law ng UK, if nagkaproblem ako or what, hindi nila ako matutulungan. Tapos I read naman sa law ng pinas, if ever I decide to work in a gov't dept, I have to give up my foreign citizenship.

Opinion ko lang, advantage lang sa akin yun pagka-dual citizenship ko is there are countries that I can go to that doesn't need visa na. Yun lang naman gusto ko.

And you have to apply for dual citizenship sa immigration or Phil. consulat where you are right now. So ngayon ang gamit ko palabas ng country is yun foreign passport ko, tapos naka-attach xerox copy nung immigration certificate

^talaga? Never ko pa na-experience yan. Ewan ko kung nagkataon lang na nangyari sa akin, or ganoon sila sa lahat ng foreign passport holders born in the philippines, or baka pangit talaga reputation ng pinas sa kanila, but when I went to Korea and used my foreign passport, tinignan pa ako ng immigration officer(look niya parang talaga xray eyes), isa isa tinignan yun pages. Yun 2 people naman before me, foreign passport din, pero ang bilis nila, tinatakan lang. Tapos nung pauwi ako doon naman sa ticketing counter, binigyan naman ako ng ticket but sabi wait a moment. Tapos tinignan pa ng surpervisor yun passport ko, tapos may siya sinabi na "Philippines".
