@ sis chili1113: sis i think that's for the reports if you want to ask for progress reports every 3-6 months.. 

it's much more strict there pala sis. 

the out of sync child is a good book for SPD. but there's a better book written by dr. jean Ayres. She was the one who found this theory. but I have to check my books first for the title.  we used to have so much difficulty explaining SPD to parents but at least now, there are a lot of books we can recommend.

pansin nyo sa QLD puro lesbo ang OT .. my son's ot was T. Ayie, and yes yung son ni Mary Ann Cua (owner of QLD) is special kid also. dun sila na inspire na magtayo ng sariling center dito sa Pinas.
T. Ayie has therapy center also in laguna, pero ndi na ko nagkainteres kasi ndi naman ako taga don, nakwento lang nya sakin.

Sis chili1113, my son was absent twice or thrice because he was sick but wala naman na-impose na penalties because I always called Thera or sent a text message to T. Deanna at least a day before the scheduled session.

I remember T. Deanna made a progress report or updated her original assessment report (I am not familiar how therapists call these reports), wala naman extra charge.

corinnesmom: thanks sis! saw the book by Dr. Ayres on Amazon. Its 30 usd I think hehe Im going to order some books and have them sent to my cousin vacationing in the States. Im thinking of ordering several books on SPD and one with some OT parents can do with their kids at home =)

marose17: Really? Buti naman... parang they sound so strict with their policies eh. Even T. Tisha said theyre a little strict bec theyre waitlist is so ling and they want to give chance to others. I got intimidated with their loooonnnggg list of policies you have to sign per line diba? But nic to know they're flexible and considerate naman. Sana we get a sched na for OT.. after Holy Week daw.

Im also thinking of enrolling my son in this group class ages 3-6 yrs on movement matters.. Gross Motor Skills ang focus parang P4000 for 10 sessions if Im not mistaken.

I think that the report that you may be talking about is parang re-evaluation. I think it's around P1,500+. Then they'll give you a 6-page report. They do it around 6 months after the program.

My devped from Phil. Children's  Med. Center recommended Therabilities and Shine, both in Pasig area.  There are a lot of therapy centers but she said these two are some of the most reliable centers.  My son is undergoing OT at Therabilites for 6 months now and so far, my son is slowly improving his behavior.

^Luckily d naman kami nahirapan getting in at Therailities.  It took us about 2 weeks before they called us for the assessment.  2x a week lang ang OT, later na yung speech once he's ready. I didn't realize it was hard to get a slot at Thera until I read this thread kasi nga mabilis lang kami tinawagan.  Although I remember nag follow up din ako kay Alma 2x. Anyway,  did you get your schedule already?

Just want to share this experience at Thera.  There was this day na super traffic.  It was the day na may crocs sale somewhere near renaissance.  Late kami ng 50 minutes but we showed up anyway para magpa sked na lang ng make-up class. Nag text naman ako kay Teacher Deanne (different from Teacher Deanna) that we will be late.  Pagating namin, I told Alma magpapa sked kami ng make-up class.  She called our therapist and Teacher Deanne was more than willing to forego her lunch break to have the session with my son.  So  d na kami nagmake up pa. That just shows they are flexible naman and accommodating.

^ yes sis I have a sched na with T. Lea. Pero once a week lang. That's her only opening and Tisha assigned us to her who is next in seniority to her. Im still waiting for another slot kahit na with one of their juniors bec I need 2x/week OT.

So far, I am very happy with T. Lea and the services of Thera. Have no absent pa or late bec we just started and once a week pa lang kami.

I like that their facilities is complete in sensory integration apparatus.

question: kailangan ba same center ka for OT and speech so that they can coordinate better with each other? When my son is ready for speech I have another center in minds kasi.

^I think better if you stick with one center na lang.  First, because at least familiar na yung bata sa place, at home na sya. Second, para coordinated yung program.  Kasi baka pag iba, may iba silang principles and style which will not complement with the other.  Third, better yung monitoring ng progress kasi the therapists can coordinate with each other well.  Well, that's just my opinion.  Siguro you can ask din your devped and other GT moms here for their inputs.    Other kids kasi in Thera are going also to Shine.  D ko lang alam for what type of therapy.

^ Thats what the devped told me also eh. Better one center lang.
Was thinking lang for speech, there are cheaper yet good alternatives to thera.

But tama, if they wont be able to coordinate well with each other sayang lang ng money. Better if everyone works as a team.

How long have u been doing OT?

We go to another center for speech because I wasn't happy na 1x a week lang kami with Thera. I strongly believe kasi that dapat intensive ang approach with my son. Sayang kasi yun time. Fortunately, the SP of my son also works in Thera. Initially, they were coordinating with each other until our SP in Thera left na, we weren't scheduled with another therapist, maybe because kulang nga sila sa therapists and ang haba ng waiting time. So now we go to another center, 2x a week aside from Thera.

^^We started OT Dec 2008. 2x/week.  Malapit na kami mag 6 months and my son is scheduled for re-evaluation with his devped on June.  He's still hyper but at least nakikinig na rin sya and nauutusan.

sis, question lang ha.. re hyper.. talaga bang na identify child nyo ng therapist/devpedia na hyper sila?

kasi i see the term being misused by other people... na nakita lang active yung bata, eh hyper na...

^ sis in my son's case... my devped or OT ever "labeled" him as hyper. They just give me feedback or comments on his attention span, sitting skills, and task completion.

Even if I know, till my son turns 5 he is still at risk for adhd/add... he was never called "hyper" by the professionals. For now it seems to be mild developmental language disorder with sensory processing disorder.

One devped told me 50% overcome their language difficulties by age 5, if not then it could be later further diagnosed as a learning disability or adhd.

Just want to comment that so far, Im happy with Thera's services and as one of the sisses here mentioned. theyre not as strict naman pala and they do give consideration to special circumstances.

Kanina kasi my son was brought to Thera by his dad 30 min late na for his treatment. Pano nag leave yung yaya, and hes adjusting to the reliever. He had tantrums this morning kaya na late talaga siya bec he didnt even want to ride his dads car!!

then his dad explained to the therapist the special circumstances and I was pleased to find out that she extended his session. dapat 11-12 and session niya. They arrived 11:30 and finished 12:20. So parang halos naka 1 hour na rin sya even if super late.

I told the dad kasi... even if late kayo sobra... mag OT na sila. Bec theres a P450 no show penalty. Id rather pay P600 kahit 30 min remaining nalang kaysa sa P450 for nothing. Buti nalang yun, T. Lea extended their session and gave him some consideration and naka 50 min pa rin kami. =)

^hi sis, so how's your son na? is he responding well to the program?

^^ re:hyperactivity: usually we ask parents to rate the hyperactivity from 1 to 10 (10 being most hyper), coz that term is still very subjective, what may be hyper to parents may not be hyper for professionals coz we allow a small degree of hyperactivity for kids that are still very young.

^ hi sis!! He's only been throguh about 6 sessions. Once a week pa lang our sched. He seems to be responding well. Not a landslide improvement, but in a steady gradual way.

youre an occupational therapist sis right? whats your opinion on this... since thera sked is too busy and my doc want 2x/week therapy.... they assigned me to 2 diff (senior) teachers, under the approval of my doc. Would I be able to maximize the O benefits with that setup?

Also, whats your opinion regarding 2 OT sessions 2 days in a row... then the rest of the week my son doesnt get treatment. I Diba better more spread out like every 2 or 3 days?
