Ang alam ko mas mura ang cost of living sa may midwest sis. For what i know, one reason kaya medyo may kamahalan sa Cali is because of the weather kasi maganda talaga weather sa Cali.

sis di ko rin alam eh.  if i would hazard a guess, though, i would say that if the cost of living is really low, medyo hindi rin siguro ganon ka progressive ang state.  that's just an assumption, i may be wrong. 

if you really want CA, may areas naman na cheaper eh.  for instance, my friend lives in Madera County (midway between SFO and LA), and it's much cheaper to rent an apartment in this area vs. the Bay Area or in and around LA County.

what internship are you referring to sis?  if you are a physician, ang alam ko kasi is you will have to be matched...

^i'm a business administration graduate, so sa mga hotels or resorts ang pwede ko pasukan.. all over US kasi ang inooffer, so may choices talaga.. from cali ka ba sis?

not yet, but that's where i stay when i visit and i will eventually be settling there too, since i am waiting for my H1B sponsorship to practice my profession there.  hopefully, i will learn where in CA i will be assigned before october of this year.

^as far as i know, required ang tip here in the US. 15% ata. nasa law ata iyon or what. please correct me if i'm wrong ha.

ang alam ko sis, ala naman ata sa law yun but as much as possible give gratuity since those people gave you their services.

usually it's 10-15% percent gratuity. although kapag group of 8 or more, naka-include na yung gratuity sa bill since mandatory na.

usually sa mga restaurants na sit-in, mga hairdresser, mga nagbibigay ng mani and pedi, masseuse, sa mga carwash pa pala!  isip pa ako.

alam ko nasa batas dito yang tip na yan, 10-15% depende sa resto. one time nga they chase us when they give 5% lang. malay ba namin na 10% pala gusto nila. as in hinabol kami hanggang sa labas. grabeh kakahiya!!!

You are not legally required to tip.  But tipping is expected.

15% tip for restaurants is standard. Anything less, you either (1) had a terrible experience, (2) shouldn't plan to return, or (3) expect a question about the low tip.  Also, for most areas, except some cities like San Francisco, the tip is computed as part of the servers income, and they get paid less than minimum wage.

if you pay by card, you can include it in the slip you sign.  you don't need to leave cash. 

there's a space where you can add the tip and put a new total to the amount they'l charge your card.  if found this very useful, since i normally dont keep small bills.
