I had RAI uptake 6 years ago because of Hyperthyroidism. I was 21 years old then. After 6 months, I began losing hair, bruising and experiencing body pain. The test result confirmed that I was on a  Hypothyroid state. Year 2009 I was able to conceive and deliver my daughter while taking synthroid. My endocrinologist is Dr. Rosa Sy of Cardinal Santos Medical Center. Shortly after giving birth, I began to discontinue taking my medication and seeing my doctor. I felt at that time kasi na Euthyroid na ako. Anyway, I am slowly gaining weight through the years and I understand that its because of Hypothyroidism and my unhealthy diet. I dont exercise as well. Lately, I've been experiencing palpitation and excessive sweating. So I consulted an endo here in Angeles City. I learned from him na possible pala na maging hyper ulit from hypo state kahit na nag-underwent ng RAI. So I'll have the tests done tomorrow. I'd rather have hypothyroid than hyper.

I think yung pag-protrude ng eyes pag sobrang toxic na ng case mo and it won't happen overnight.

Nawala palpitations ko since si stop drinking anything with caffeine.

I'm on a medical field plus my 3 endo's never recommended na mag-fast ako prior to the blood extraction.

@Princess Chill: sis kasi mas nahirapan ako nung nag-hyper ako. Pag super bilis na ng heart rate, it could lead to some heart problem. Kaya I had to do 2D echo and holter monitoring pa non. Like now, I'm regurlarly exercising and yung diet ko mejo healthy na and so far I'm starting to lose weight. I just have to consult my endo kasi yung symptoms ko ngayon parang sa hyper na naman :(

@AnnePonce: Yung mga symptoms mo kasi pang HYPERTHYROID. Magaling na Endo si Dra. Crisostomo. Naging endo ko din sya. But malayo kasi ang Makati saken kaya lumipat ako sa Cardinal Santo & TMC. Ayway, sya din yung nag-request for me ng thyroid scan. Mas maganda kasi yan kasi mas accurate yun result than ultrasound. May iinject sayo na dye 1 hour prior sa scan (just make sure na wala ka allergy) then tatayo ka sa harap mg machine. You don't have to worry kasi other than the injection of dye, wala na ibang discomfort during the procedure.

@Chinita: oo nga sis, big no-no talaga ang caffeinated drinks kasi stimulant yan mga yan. Lalo lang ma-aggravate yung palpitations. Yung thyroid problem depende talaga sa klase and yung signs and symptoms differs from person to person. Pero yung blood test, halos every 3 months on my first year of detection.

^I also have that same notion na pag nag-RAI forever hypo na. Ang explanation kasi ng endo that I consulted here (nasa Manila kasi yung endo ko), pwede nag-regenerate yung thyroid organ ko kahit na na-shrink na sya ng radiation for the primary reason na kailangan sya ng body ko to produce the hormones since matagal na ako hindi nagttake ng medications ko. I feel fine, walang symptoms of hypothyroidism with the exemptionof weight gain. I opted to do RAI before kasi thyroidectomy is thru operation. Mas complicated pa kasi pag ganon, imo. Pero kung compliant ka naman sa medication mo, baka you dont have to do RAI na kung nacocontrol naman.

^Dra. Crisostomo is a very good endo. Kung ni-reccomend nya na after a month ka magpa-blood works ulit, then magcomply ka sa kanya because she knows best. Sa ngayon continue lang your meds and wag ka mashado magpakastress kasi hindi makakatulong yan sayo. If ever na meron ka nga na hyperthyroidism, strict compliance talaga sa medication ang kelangan because etong condition na to lifetime na :( either hyper or hypo ka lang. Kelangan mo matuto na mag-cope with your condition and research a lot to lessen your anxiety  :)

^Are currently taking any medication?

Here's a link regarding RAI which can be helpful to all of us: http://www.netplaces.com/thyroid-disease/treating-hyperthyroidism/radioactive-iodine-rai.htm

^Kung may symptoms ka na and you have the blood test also, consult na your doctor. Better to be sure na din.

Anyone who is taking iodine and potassium iodide supplements? What brand?
I was trying to look for Lugol solution but wala sa mercury.
Yun gamot ng Tita ko, under Dr. Litonjua.
