wow, thanks sa post mo sis Cristal. cos i'm scheduled to do a RAI in two months. kailangan ko kasi magpa-LASER (PRK) muna the end of this month eh and RAI can cause the eyes to be too dry so i have to wait for a month-6 weeks until my eyes are fully healed before i can do the RAI. I heard some negative stuff nga about it (mostly online) eh but my endo kept saying na it's the best option daw since hyperthyroidism is not "treatable" dahil the meds are just keeping off the s/s and not really treating it. i'm only 25 btw. at alam ko kung ndi naman cancerous 'yung thyroid problem it's best not to kill it completely cause may tendency daw na maging cancerous after RAI. so how does the surgery work ba? i know you explained that they only take a part of it off. but how will that affect me in the long run? say 10-15 years from now?
and afterwards kailangan mag-take ng syntroids di ba? will that have an effect on my fertility? can i still have a baby in the future?  kasi di ba bawal mag-take ng meds when you're pregnant cause it might cause abnormality on your baby's development?

Get 2nd opinions regarding the surgery on thyroid. I have no experience on that kasi i didnt undergo it. Even after surgery, you need to take the t4 medicines i think. during pregnancy, walang problem kasi nagnonormalize yung thyroid during pregnancy. That's the miracle of being pregnant. my friend also kapag buntis sya, nawawala yung hyperthyroid nya. but after giving birth, balik na ulit. i believe na nakakatulong yung medicines for hyperthyroid basta drink it regularly. sobrang toxic yung RAI kaya im really mad na i took that when i was young. wala akong kaalam-alam. there are many ways to naturally improve hyperthyroidism too. your body needs to relax thru meditation, yoga, massage, eating cabbage. you need to research.

Tapdin lang ba ang meds for hyper? i remember ako tapazole and may isa pa eh. yes, try alternative treatments. last  choice mo na yang RAI. Ako nga swerte nagka anak pa ako eh. Pag may thyroid problem kasi mahirap mag anak. at nalagpasan ko naman yung 5 years bago ako nag-baby. anyway, eat a lot of cabbage. yun yung natural cure to stop over production of thyroid hormones. with hyper thyroid, relaxing your body will help a lot. and as we age, humihina yung thyroid production eh. ako nga im waiting for the thyroid transplant. if ma-perfect yon magpapalagay ako noon! haha we have a thyroid gland kasi it plays an important part. why would we want to kill it diba??? you just need to take your medicines regularly para mawala yung hyper symptoms mo.

Yung childhood friend ko biglang sabi one day na naglalaro kami, bat daw ang laki ng leeg ko. so i told my mom, she agreed. so we went to the doctor na. ayun, after a couple of tests, confirmed. madali lang malaman thru blood tests.

PTU is the other med for hyper,it was also prescribed to me by my previous endo, 9 tabs a day ang dosage ko and it's really a high dose.saka sobrang pait ng lasa kaya nakakasuka...

a few months after i gave birth saka naglabasan signs and symptoms ko..sudden weight loss and amenorrhea pero dahil im still breastfeeding so kala ko normal lang yun..and then palpitations, tremors, irritable,8x a day yung bowel movement ko, malakas ako kumain, madali mapagod. hyper magsalita and hindi napapagod, insomnia, as in lahat ng s/s ng hyperthyroidism nasa akin nun..my ob referred me to the endo and based pa lang sa s/s ko confirmed na may hyper ako..my tsh is 0.01 so it's very very low. that was october 2008 pa..so up to now, hindi talaga ako makapagmeds mabuti kase im still breastfeeding my 19months old daughter..sobrang hirap ng situation ko...nakapagtake ako ng tapdin kase i do some research na accepted naman sya ng AAP,same as the PTU except for higher doses hindi talaga puede..3 weeks ago, my endo prescribed me LITHIUM CARBONATE prior to RAI, so gang ngayon dpa ako nagtatake kase sobrang hindi sya puede sa breastfeeding..hay!

Yes, sa states up to 3 lang. Higher than that Hypo na. Ako, nasa 4 palang ang TSH ko, i feel all the hypo symptoms na.  My doctor wants nga nasa 1 or less than 1 yung TSH ko.

mga sis share ko lang po eto...

http://www.greenlife-herbal.com/thyroid_throu/thyroid_disease.asp

T3 T4 ko normal but may TSH is 0.03 ( low). Most of the nodules are cysts, meron isang well defined solid nodule sa left and yung size ng thyroid gland ko medyo bigger compared to normal size.

I'm wondering kung may subclinical hyperthyroidism ako, how come mataba ako? although meron talaga ako arrhythmia noon pa, hindi naman ako sobrang late matulog, laging mainit ang mga palms ko, mas irritable ako ngayon kesa dati (pero parang feeling ko it comes with age kasi 32 na ako sa july and right now may 9 month old baby ako).

THYROID PROBLEM

::) Hi again! For people na katulad ko na may Hypothyrodism here is my old lab result : Mostly
Autoimmune diseases occur after pregnancy but not all ha.

 May 2008 - DIagnosed Hyperthyroid
June 2008 - Diagnosed Hypothyroid (Hashimotos)
                 Test: T4 12.02 (normal 1-4.00)
                 Anti TPO - 7986  (normal 0-100)

For Hypothyroid - I suggest you check not only the FT3 / FT4.  Try to test your T3/T4 TSH (IRMA) and your Anti TPO. Yan talaga dyan madedetect kung merun ka padin Hypothryroid or wala.

Ater taking Synthroid / KB Food Supplements.
(what so funny with KB hinde ko alam na OK na OK siya sa hypothyrodism until ive read itong sa site ng kb  http://www.kyusokubihaku.com/news.html )

  May 2009 Result: Anti TPO - 1500 (normal 0-100)
            T4 - 4.1   (normal 1-4)

Note: by the way ft3/ft4 always normal naman.

When mo na diagnosed yan? after giving irth ba? irritable is one cause of hyperthyrodism.

Eissej - i have question lang.. nadiagnosed ka ba nito after your pregnancy? do you have any laboratory result about your hyperthyrodism?

sis crystal, thanks for the info! I was diagnosed to have hyperthyroidism last year and until my last check up which was last March, nasa normal na yung t3 and t4 ko, but my endo still insisted na magpa-RAI ako this june kasi yung case ko daw, ang tagal mag-normalize yung t3 ko (eh sa totoo lang, nakakatamad narin uminom ng gamot noh, isang taon mo ba naman iniinom eh) eh according to my ninongs na ENT & IM, wag daw ako ipa-RAI kasi nga bata pako (i'm 24 by the way) and as a nurse, alam ko na pag nagpa-RAI or thyroid surgery, you will be required to take TSH replacements (ang mahal kaya and hassle pa) so dahil doon, ayoko narin muna magpa-RAI, next check up ko this month. what do you think mga sisses, should i go to another endo? Tsaka bat sabi ng endo ko, pwede mabuntis after a year or so ng RAI??? hai. ayoko kasi ng kung [textspeak!] anong gagawin sakin, gusto ko meds lang talaga.  >:(

sis archangels - yes sis i was diagnosed 11months after i gave birth. mostly nga daw nagkakaroon nito after giving birth and dahil sa stress. first lab ko nung october 2008 here's the result:
FT3    34.69   Normal Values: 2.22-5.34 pmol/l
FT4    69.27   N.V. 9.16-23.86 pmol/l
TSH    0.01    N.V.  0.47-4.64 uiu/l

wala ako tinake na kahit anong antithyroid drugs nung time na yun. then nagpunta ako ng january 2009 sa alternative medicine, kaso hindi ko rin natuloy kase lahat din ng meds na nireseta sakin ay hindi puede sa breastfeeding.pero sinunod ko diet nun na puro chicken lang puede ko kainin and fruits and veggies. tapos february 2009, nagpa check up nman ako sa ibang endo ang nagpa lab ulet ako.

FT4   50.95 pmol/l
TSH   0.01 uiu/l

tinanong ko yung endo kung bakit bumaba yung ft4 ko without taking any meds, sabi nya minsan daw nagflufluactate din yun, d raw lagi nasa mataas..parang ganun.

sis kokobebe - naka sked din ako for RAI sa june, pero after ko mabasa post ni sis cristal and nag research ako,  dna na ako magpapa RAI..kase marami talaga side effects ang RAI, it varies sa bawat individual. ang pinakadelikado kase after ng RAI or thyroidectomy(removal of thyroid glands) yung magiging hypo naman tayo. so lifetime meds na talaga yun para maiwasan naman na maghypo tayo. sis tama yung endo mo na pregnancy should be avoided 6 months after treatment.  tanong ko pala, bakit need na magpa RAI ka? kase ako allergic sa anti thyroid drugs so yun na lang daw option ko. kung puede sa gamot magtake ka na lang, kaso nga lang hindi naman nagagamot yung hyper thru meds kungdi yung sign and symptoms lang naman yung ginagamot pero not the disease itself. pero marami ako nakausap and nabasa na after ilang years na nagtake sila ng meds eh wala rin effect. oks lang na mag pa 2nd opinion ka, ako nga 3 endo na napuntahan ko and 1 doctor ng alternative medicine eh, wala naman masama eh. nabasa ko na pag ang endo daw sinabi na RAI lang daw ang option mo for treatment of hyper, maghanap ka na lang daw ng ibang endo..

Do your research girls! Ako talaga i dont recommend RAI based on personal experience. Kakainis talaga, if only i could bring back time. I also learned that  with RAI, it doesnt stop until it kills all your thyroid gland. Kasi the RAI stays in your thyroid for years and years, killing your thyroid gland slowly. Maski minimum dose pa ang ibinigay ng doctor. I think endos really recommend the RAI para mawala yung symptoms ng Hyper. to them, dangerous ang hyper kasi yung heart over worked. Pero if you really just take your medicines, nacocontrol naman eh. plus, hindi lang ata 6 months after RAI pwedeng mag buntis, i thought 5 years pa.
