PAINT or WALLPAPER?

hi! i'm thinking of redecorating my bedroom, kasi i'm about to have a baby (in august pa naman) and i plan to make my room somewhat look like a nursery..pero not all the way din, kasi i share the room with my sister too. i just want it to look freshened up.

the old wallpaper has long been there and i'm planning on having it either changed or just get the walls painted.

ano mas maganda OR mas mura? WALLPAPER or PAINT?

i'm sort of on-a-budget too kaya kailangan pag-isipan ng mabuti. hope you could help me with this. thanks!:)

Wallpaper.  There are more to choose from now, better priced ones too (some even go on sale) since wallpaper is gaining in popularity again.

The labor cost for stripping, minimal "masilya" and installation will surely be less than your labor cost for painting.
And, if you have wallpaper installed now, you will spend more for prepping the walls for paint application.

But then, if you are not particular about the "fineness" of the paint job -- you can even just do it yourself -- okay na rin. Painting it yourself, or by a friend/relative who will hardly charge you is definitely the cheaper alternative.

Please take note that most wallpaper are healthier (less toxins emitted) than most paints available here in the Phils.  If you will decide on paint, be sure to get the safer though pricier paint newly introduced by Boysen -- for the sake of your baby.

@ aquacharly: thank you for your reply. my dad suggested initially wallpaper na lang daw, so pinagiisipan ko talaga. actually sakin miski ano, kaso lang kasi ako yung magbabayad so pagiipunan ko pa whatever i'll choose. but your reply was a big help..i had no idea what other things will be involved pag wallpaper. maghihintay pa ako ng ibang suggestions then i'll decide..hmm..na-excite tuloy ako.

mas cheaper nga ang paint, maganda naman yung ibang design ngn wallpaper (particular style)

hassle ang wallpaper kapag nagchip off na siya in due time, like after 5-10 years.  papatanggal mo siya as whole, tapos papa treatment yung walls para totally clean, then bagong wallpaper na naman ang ilalagay.

ang hirap magdecide. true, maganda nga ang wallpaper kaso it might be costlier. hay. yung wall paper ko kasi nagpi-peel off na, pero it lasted us a good 10 years (or more pa nga ata)..so i was thinking paint na lang. kaso takot lang talaga rin ako sa fumes. and baka ilang gallon ng paint kailanganin sa room ko baka masyado rin magastos. may thinner pa and whatever solvents dapat diba?

malaki ba room mo sis? usually pag room hindi naman magcoconsume ng napakaraming gallon nun....personally, mas gusto ko ang paint, tutal kids room naman yan...alam mo naman ang kids pag medyo lumaki mahilig magsulat sa walls diba, pag paint mas madaling linisin...soap and water matatangal na, pag wallpaper naman pag nadumihan ang hirap nang linisan

pagkakaalam ko pag cement ang walls hindi na kailangan ng thinner...pag wood, dun mo lang sya hahaluan ng thinner....ikaw na lang gumawa sis, para mas makatipid ka...boysen ang magandand brand based sa experience ko

@ CATI: hindi naman malaki, actually siguro in one or two days matatapos sya kung paint. safe kaya yun now that i'm pregnant? going 5months ako ngayon, eh natatakot ako sa fumes talaga. siguro papagawa ko na lang din whichever way i choose. but thanks for giving me an idea.

oo nga noh? baka drawingan lang in the future. hehe. mahirap burahin sa walls yun!

LUVLUV -- not just for wallpaper.  There is prep cost and labor cost involved for both wallpaper and painting.

Let me make myself clear -- if you will compare the labor cost and prep cost between painting and wallpaper installation -- painting will cost more. (Unless nga you do it yourself -- at papatungan mo lang whatever paint is now on your walls.)

Painting will also mean more downtime -- and is messier than just replacing wallpaper. The latter takes less time, and less mess.

I am about to renovate my room myself, but I am opting for paint rather than wallpaper, because it's hard to maintain wallpapered walls in this humid environment. Not to mention the ease in redecorating solid colored walls than printed wallpapered ones.

But I do have some need for wallpaper. I checked out Ace hardware already, and they don't seem to have nice prints. Are there other sources for wallpaper?

If you go for the affordable type use paint...kaso
yung odor ng paint might not be good for you new born especially its just 3 months away.You could try pa nga magpa paint ng design na gusto mo.I mean theme na gusto mo....

alam mo ito yung mistakes ko dati na til now di ko pa ma solve..kase my hubby is my asthma so bawal sa kanya yung smell nong paint ang ginawa ko bumili ng wall paper then customized na lang in short kami na ni hubby nagkabit..that time coming pa lang baby namin..

after 3 years when my baby start pulling the wallpaper as in ang pangit na..my baby pati di mo pwedeng pigilan kase parang habbit na nila lalo pag inaantok ayun yung hands nila nasa wall nagtatanggal nong wallpaper..now its almost 6yrs na yung wallpaper namin as in ang pangit na talaga..ang mahal pa naman ng service sa pagtanggal ng wallpaper..hays

so better talaga paint na lang since my paint naman na ngayon na friendly yung smell...

paints are waaaay cheaper than wallpapers. but with wallpapers, you'd have your choice of designs to choose from. as for paints, limited lang since they're all in plain solid colors anyway.

why not paint then place wall decal para mas interesting ang wall? since para naman sa kid/baby, cutie pa ang dating. giving u more options lang
