Where are the good ukay-ukays in the metro (3)

I know this is a long post so bear with me. TIA! 

When I was in high school (and still residing in the province) my mom often bought items at ukay-ukays there. I remember when I often complain about getting second hand items instead of brand new ones but then again, my mom has great taste so the clothes she bought there always looks chic and fits me well.

When I started my college here in Manila, I swore to myself never to buy from Ukay-ukay again since Divisoria is just a jeepney ride away from my school. I never bought anything second hand in my four years in college.

When I got married, my husband reminded me that he strictly opposes to buying at ukay-ukays fro hygienic purposes plus he got paranoid after watching a tv series wherein several teenage girls got poisoned by wearing jeans they bought at thrift shops. So buying second hand items was completely out of the picture until yesterday.

I read a blog (so sorry, I can't recall which one since I've read so many) wherein this girl bought her entire outfit at an ukay-ukay and it was a really pretty ensemble (not to mention, unique) and she only paid for less than 500 for her outfit. That's when I was inspired to try thrift shopping yesterday.

I went to the ukay-ukay's at Isetann Recto. I found two dresses that I really love (one of which was a 'Little Black Dress'). Unfortunately, it was a bit pricey for me (P280 each? Come on, I can buy a new dress at Divisoria or SM Clearance outlet for the same price). I also fell in love with a pair of red Giordano Jeans but when I asked the saleslady about the price, it was P380! I know that it may be a steal considering the costs of a pair of new Giordanos but I thought I can buy a pair of Crissa jeans on sale for P350 only.

When I went thrift shopping, my goal was to find items that are anything below 200 because I've seen great finds by "ukay buyers" that ranges from as low as P20 to less than a hundred.

I walked around Quiapo too just to try the thrift shops there, but to my disappointment, I found nothing that suits my taste. Then, I tried looking at the ukay's on the other side of Quezon Blvd. (side opposite of Quiapo Church) and Yay!! I spotted a dark blue flowing polka dot dress which kinda reminds me of the 50s and Taylor Swift for some reason and it costs P120. Plus, I found a red bolero jacket for only P55. When I fitted both items, I was so glad to find that it fitted me perfectly as if it was tailored for me.
I bought both items and paid only P150 (thanks for the discount the nice lady gave me). I can't wait to try thrift shopping again.

I'm also a fan of Tagaytay's ukay. Proud pa ako sa friends ko kasi lagi silang "ANG GANDA NG DAMIT MO", tas sasabihin ko, "Ukay yan! Galing no?". I've never been ashamed kasi ang gaganda at unique ng pieces.

Last time, though, wala akong nabili. Ang weird. I think I should start inquiring ano schedule ng mga bagong dating. Then on a separate spree, my sister bought 20items, mostly blazers, trench coats, and branded corporate wear. GRABE mga 4.5k lang ata gastos niya, considering may mga Giordano at Klein dun.

There are also good pieces sa Sucat, kaso I find it pricey compared to Tagaytay's. Saan pa ba may magandang UK sa Pilipinas??

Marami ding tabi-tabing ukay sa Espana. I usually buy right beside McDo Morayta. Mahal na for me yung 60 na mga top dun pero binibili ko narin kasi magaganda naman.

When you buy clothes from ukays, what do you use to wash them?

ooh..super fascinated and addicted ako sa mga ukay finds nowadays..just last week, I bought a pair of Zara Jeans for only P60!!!! plus I also saw a very nice knit top for only P35. Hmmm..Saan pa kaya sa Manila Area maganda mamamili ng ukay? I'm not really familiar with designer brands so, sis, can you give me tips or perhaps a list of brands I need to look for when buying in Ukays (Bags, shoes, clothes). Eto lang mga alam ko (mostly popular brands lang..some shops kasi from Japan or Korea ang tinda kaya di ako familiar sa mga brands nila. Though i'm not into buying branded items, but these brands have good quality kaya I want to know):

^Some of those brands have fake duplicates na kaya when you get a Gap from ukay, di ka rin makakasigurado. Malas pa kung fake kasi napamahal ka lang. When you have a good eye, edi ayos. But most of those brands you've mentioned are shoes or bag brands. I've never bought shoes and bags sa uk. I consider those investments kaya worth it kahit mahal.

Kayo ba mga sisses, do you buy shoes and bags sa ukay?

We usually see and buy original G2000, Giordano, and Esprit sa ukay.

^I bought an Esprit Button Down Dress from an ukay yesterday kaso di maganda ang fit sa akin. I'm planning to resell it. Baka sa garage sale na lang namin sa summer.

Yes sis, most of the brands I mentioned are bags and shoes (dahil jan ako mahilig). Sa shoes doubtful ako bumili kasi baka may fungi/bacteria or whatever. Mejo interested lang ako sa bags. Never pa kasi akong nakakabili ng bag/shoes sa ukay. I read a blog from a wonderful cebuana fashionista (psychestyles.wordpress.com) and she found amazing shoes. Some even found ferragamo flats.

Hahaha ang problem ko kasi is I grew up in a province with a very low maintenance lifestyle. Thus, I was never exposed to branded clothing, shoes, etc. I receive branded items but I never knew their worth. Kaya siguro yung tita at mama ko is hysterical whenever I chose to wear cheap clothes of the latest trend that I bought at the tiangge rather than the branded hand me downs  and gift from my relatives. Lately ko lang nadiscover yan (when I entered college).

Di ko rin alam kung paano mag-scrutinize ng fake na Gap sa original. Though, I own  quite a number of Gap items. I presume original yung Gap ko..kasi regalo sa akin ng tita ko from abroad.  Ang kaya ko lang i-distinguish na original from fake is D & G Light Blue eau de toilette for women. Any tips mga sis on how to pick up originals from fakes or is this something you learn by experience?

I bought my first set of ukay clothes today at Pasay. Ang gaganda ng clothes, sumakit lang ilong ko sa amoy, may dust allergy pa naman ako..Hehe!

There's one ukay in Avenida that sells good clothes and another in Kalentong. Kaso yung sa Avenida, may isang Salesperson (guy) dun na bastos kaya nakakainis. Siya lang ang rotten tomato dun kasi yung mga girls na SA mababait at accomodating.
