my 1 and half mo. old baby got allergic rhinitis, too early., usually at midnight nag mamanifest yung signs,. she got it from her dad. too bad wala pang ibinigay na gamot pedia nya. they dont usually give anti histamine drugs to baby below 6 mos. the only thing that help her is the saline spray...nakakaawa everytime she had an attack. wala kaming magawa.:-(

My daughter has allergic rhinitis too. Nag-start na naman sya 2 weeks ago. Yung harap and likod kase ng house namin may mga construction na ginagawa. She's currently taking Meptin twice a day and montelukast. Pnapatuloy ng pedia nya yung montelukast for 3 months or until makalipat kame sa condo this february.

Nasal irrigation may be done in kids as long as it is done properly. Dapat paturo ka sa doctor on how to do this since medyo masakit and irritating sa nasal mucosa kung mali ang pagkagawa nito. Hindi rin ito dapat gawin kapag may infection or kung sobrang barado ang nose.
Alternative nito would be the saline or sea water nasal sprays.

Too early to diagnose Allergic rhinitis at your baby's age. The infant's nasal anatomy is still developing and immature at that time which is why they are really prone to developing sneezing, colds and nasal congestion.
Are you breastfeeding your baby? Breastfeeding has been proven to delay or prevent the development of allergies as long as pure breastfeeding for at least 6 months.

Does your daughter have allergic rhinitis and asthma or just allergic rhinitis? The reason I am asking is because we do not give Meptin for cases of Allergic rhinitis. Meptin is a long acting Beta 2 agonist type of medication and it is an anti-asthma drug. Montelukast is an anti-leukotriene medication, not an anti-histamine or a steroid. It may be used as both an anti-asthma and an anti-allergic rhinitis medication but it is better for prevention than treatment of current symptoms. Based on studies, it is not as effective as other anti-allergy meds if used alone.

^Doc, sabe ng pedia nya wala naman daw asthma kase walang wheezing. Kaso yung AR nya, recurrent. From August to present, third time na nya to. Mejo candidate daw yung anak ko sa asthma because of our family history (kahit wala kameng asthma ng hubby ko). Strong ba masyado ang Meptin for her? Third time na nya mag-take nito since school started kase halos every other month nagkaka-coughs sya.

@letletmd- no,she's not breastfeed thats why our pedia ask us to change her milk into hypoallergenic infant formula to minimize the signs but then every morning she had an attack of runny nose,sneezing teary eye and the worst thing is that he keep on tugging her nose, maybe nangangati siya. she even crying once na pinipigilan namin hands nya na kamutin kase yung tenga nya pinang gigigilan nya eh, di nya pa kase kaya abutin nose nya .

^ Not strong, but I am wondering what the indication is for giving Meptin since you said she has no asthma nor wheezing. Meptin kasi is most often given for night time cough caused by asthma. It may also be given for bronchitis, pero sa bronchitis, usually maraming phlegm and may wheezing din. I am not saying that your pedia is wrong in giving meptin. Baka hindi lang na-explain ng maayos as to the indication. I just needed to clarify the indications for Meptin here in the thread kasi baka akalain ng iba na it is an AR medication.
Since she has allergic rhinitis, she really is prone to developing asthma if her allergic rhinitis symptoms do not get controlled. AR has 5 complications: ear infections, sinusitis, conjunctivitis, enlarged tonsils due to post nasal drip leading to sleep apnea and asthma.
If she has had 3 attacks already since August, then maybe she needs to be seen by an allergist already.

^One of her symptoms is night coughing doc. Napansin namin nagsstart sya mag-cough around midnight. Tapos pag daytime, wala naman masyado although now, meron na din pero hinde naman chronic. Yun lang may tunog na yung cough nya pero hinde naman phlegm. I really hope na hinde mag-progress sa asthma

May ma-recommend ka ba na allergist sa TMC?

^ Ok, episodic coughing is a sign of allergy. House dust mites may play a role since it is the main allergic trigger during the night and early morning. I suggest to have her bed sheets changed weekly and ironed. Hot temperature is the only thing effective in killing house dust mites. Also a bath before bedtime followed by a hypoallergenic moisturizer to remove the allergens from her skin.

my son has cough and colds since monday. i onlly gave him ascof for the cough. we texted his pedia what to give him. sabi niya alnix. pero upon reading the side efffects, parang ayoko na ipainom yung alnix. so i continued giving him ascof and coco nectar. nag-improve naman. but yesterday, pumunta kami sa mall para mag-lunch. tapos today, parang lumalala anak ko.. ubo na naman ng ubo tapos parang macho-choke.. na-steam kami pero ayaw na niya. paano nga naman kasi, ang init na tapos mag-iisteam pa.. 

 no choice na ko so i gave him alnix na because im scared baka it might lead to something more serious.tsaka sabi ng husband ko, prescribed naman ng pedia.. pero i really hate giving him meds na may side effects. as much as possible, gusto ko natural  products lang talaga.

Does this go away? I'm 31 and I have this. I'm just afraid it might develop to asthma. My aunt started having asthma attacks when she was old na.

change in weather talaga nakaka-allergic rhinitis. dati medyo sakto lang, ngayon biglang ang init.

Kapag normal day, may allergy lang ako from dust, i take Claritin/Allerta. Olonaze Spray kapag ayaw mawala ng post nasal drip or sipon for a long time. pero ngayon with phlegm na and minsan feeling ko aasmahin ako just like nung ber months na nagiba weather;  di na ako makatulog ng tama laging one nostril lang nakakahinga, kaya balik Co-Altria na. i respond well to these medications.

Allergic rhinitis and asthma are both life long conditions. Those 2 diseases are inter-related and yes, one can develop asthma if the allergic rhinitis symptoms are not well managed.
Poorly treated allergic rhinitis may lead to the ff complications:
a. frequent ear infections
b. frequent sinusitis
c. allergic conjunctivitis (tearing and redness of the eyes, sometimes with swelling and is not caused by an infection)
d. irritation of the tonsillar walls due to frequent post nasal drip
e. development of asthma

Please also note that all medications, whether synthetic or herbal, have side effects. There is no such thing as a medication without a side effect. Even probiotics have side effects.
Best thing to do when someone has an attack is to seek consult with your pedia or your allergist so that the patient can be checked thoroughly and so that proper meds can be given. Concerns regarding medications/treatment are best discussed in the clinic rather than by text messaging.
Nothing beats an actual consultation.

Kasi I dont remember having allergic rhinitis dati. Nagstart lang sya nung nagwowork na ko. I took prof C for supplement and yun ang nakacontrol ng attacks ko. Dati kasi almost every night meron. I don't even know what i'm allergic too. Basta alam ko it starts kapag sobrang hangin, whether i'm indoors or outdoors.

I thank and praise God for the miracle of montelukast in my son!  Nawala na talaga allergic rhinitis nya.  At madalang na din sya magkasakit.

Allergic rhinitis, asthma and atopic dermatitis are all hereditary diseases so they are usually passed on from one generation to another. Tatlong magkakapatid na sakit yan and it is not impossible for one patient to develop all 3 allergic diseases (allergic march). Mas malakas ang chance na mapass on ang allergies kung ang mother ang meron allergic disease.
I suggest you seek consult with an allergist so that your triggers can be identified.

Good thing I saw this thread. My son was diagnosed with allergic rhinitis. He's been taking Co-Altria Ped for more than 3 months now. He's been snorting due to post nasal drip. Madalas syang may ear infection.

We really need to bring him na to an allergist kasi ang tagal na ng medication nya..
