Hi doc lelet, they were given meptin coz asthma daw po, nag xray n rin kmi and clear naman, then nung binalik ko sila sa pulmo, asthma daw po tlaga, nagbigay uli sya ng meptin, ang pred 10 plus montelukast, if wala daw po nagbago sa pagbalik nmin mag spray n daw po, im really confuse doc, til last night ganun p rin ang condition ng bunso ko more than 5 times sya ubuhin while sleeping and dry po talaga, i also told my husband to see an allergologist thats why i ask you when to visit an allergo naaawa n rin po kase ko dahil ilang weeks n silang ganun, yung eldest ko po w/c is 4 yrs old sumpong lang but yun bunso ko eh di talaga nagbabago ang cough, maybe i should bring them to you na lang po. Thank you..

Most common cause of night time cough is Asthma and Meptin is a type of medication that is used to treat night time cough caused by Asthma. Since your pedia pulmo prescribed steroids and Montelukast (another drug that is used to treat night time asthma attacks), then if it is asthma, it should resolve within a few days from starting the medications. If it is persistent or recurrent, then, yes, maintenance meds are needed.
Since both your kids developed symptoms, it is possible that they have the same trigger. I suggest that you change your bed sheets often since house dust mites are most likely the culprit for the night time cough.
Do they have nasal congestion also? Throat clearing?

hi doc lelet, thank you so much, i brought back may bunso to pedia pulmo kase di p rin nawala ang night cough, he was given seretide w/ baby haler since di daw po nakuha sa gamot, observe pa kung effect. ask ko lang doc if we can use 1 babyhaler and med with 2 kids? just in case lang po na i prescribed din sa isang anak ko? thanks a lot doc

if i may share this to all mommies of GT...sometimes transferring to a new house or location will be of big help to a child who has an allergy. that's what we did because all my daughters have allergies. all kiinds, bronchial yung oldest ko, skin asthma sa second child ko AR sa third and sa fourth who is 1y/5mos i don't know yet . we left our former house and have it rented kasi dun madaming trees, house pets  from our neighbors, bermuda from a nearby school, hollow-blocks maker na malapit sa amin, not well-ventilated kasi townhouses. now we are located in a spacious village, well-ventilated hindi maalikabok masyado or in other words na minimize ang exposure ng mga anak ko sa allergens hindi na sila masyadong na aallergy. it's all worth it kahit mahirap maglipat basta in good health lagi ang mga kids ko. HTH

That constitutes "allergen avoidance", the most essential part of managing allergic disease.
To differentiate from infectious rhinitis, in allergic rhinitis, the symptoms develop only in times of allergen exposure.

No, they cannot share baby halers nor their inhalers for hygiene purposes.
Same goes with nasal sprays, siblings nor parents cannot share nasal sprays since there are a lot of infectious organisms living inside the nasal cavity and the risk of transferring infections is very high.

nightime cough pala is sign of asthma my kid is like this, nun pinacheckup namin kahapon. she was given loraped and montelukast, pero sa gabi lang. hayy.

Ako at ang hubby ko, may allergic rhinitis (naoperahan pa ko sa sinus nung 2002)... kaso i have asthma too... And unfortunately my 6-month old son, may allergy na rin... He was only a week old nang napansin ko na may halak pero walang ubo... Then every morning nagsneeze siya twice then mauulit na yun sa gabi. So i brought him sa pedia niya and he was given cetirizine drops and was advised to nebulize with half salbutamol and 2ml sterile water... After 3 days naresolve naman lalo na yung halak nawala... Kaso in just 4 weeks ayan na naman...
Now naka montelukast siya pang 8th day na... Inuubo kase siya pero hindi naman matunog... Buti na lang at clear naman ang sound ng lungs nia, no crackles, no wheezes... 2nd night na nag montelukast siya nabawasan na ubo niya sa morning... Our pedia said na pwede nga magaya sakin, may asthma.kaso she cant label it as asthma ngayon until my baby turns 1.

We're not using curtains anymore bago pa man siya dumating... Nagpakabit kami ng blinds...
No baby powder din.pati cologne... Ako naman no cologne at perfume din kase maaamoy ni baby..
And cleaning ng room every other day bukod pa yung pagwawalis walis everydaya.

hi mommies, I just wanted to get your opinion on this. My almost 4 yo daughter [textspeak!] is having frequent bouts with AR, and she's been on-off antihistamines - loraped, aerius. and recently, she was advised to be on montelukast for 30 days. now my mother, ever the health conscious, is suggesting that we stop muna her schooling (she goes to school na kasi, bale pang 2d year na in school, pero Jr nursery pa lang sya). By doing this, my mother thinks her allergic episodes can stop. Personally, I don't find the idea good, kasi I was thinking na baka sa bahay rin meron mga allergens na she's exposed to. I am planning to refrain from using baby powder on her, pati cologne and fabcon sa damit nya. I tried this before, and I saw na medyo nag-lessen yung episodes nya, kaso since papalit-palit rin kami ng yaya, and yung ganung utos ay nakakaligtaan.

So, I just wanted to ask your opinions if whether keeping her at home, sans schooling, will benefit her. I am worried kasi, my mom texted me na asthma raw can lead to enlargement of the heart

Sorry, pero hindi dapat gumamit ng broom for sweeping since the tendency is kakalat lang ang dust and dust mites. Better to use vacuum cleaner or if walang vacuum cleaner, wet mop or wet rag rather than using a broom for sweeping. Wait also around 3 hours before entering a room that has just been cleaned.

Fabcon, baby powder or cologne do not cause allergic rhinitis. Those are all irritants, not allergens. They cause vasomotor rhinitis. In some cases, there may be combined allergic and vasomotor rhinitis, and it would be better to avoid using these irritants on your allergic child. If you want the allergic attacks to disappear, then you have to identify and avoid the allergic triggers.
Since night time ang timing ng attacks, most likely house dust mites pa rin ang cause so best to have your child shower before going to bed (hindi punas lang), put mild non irritating lotion/moisturizer and have her change her clothes. Dapat whoever sleeps with her on the bed should have a bath also before going to bed. Otherwise, house dust mites will have a feeding frenzy on dead skin and dirt. Have the bed sheets changed every 5 to 7 days, with the last rinse in hot water and have the sheets exposed to sunlight and ironed. It is the hot temp kasi that will kill the house dust mites.
Again, since night time ang attacks, that means hindi sa school nakukuha ang triggers niya. Kahit tanggalin mo sya sa school, she will still get attacks.
Allergic attacks occur only after immediate exposure to offending allergens.

^thank you so much sis leletmd naalala ko tuloy, her pulmo-pedia diagnosed my daughter before as having vasomotor rhinitis.

May I ask na din, is montelukast for asthma? Yan kasi nireseta ng pedia nya, along with loraped. Nabasa ko on the internet that montelukast is used to prevent certain allergy attacks, kasama na dun asthma. Correct me if I am wrong though.

Happy cleaning, but I hope you remember to wash up/shower right away after cleaning to prevent the allergens from sticking to your body and triggering allergic attacks.

Montelukast and other anti-leukotrienes were first developed for asthma, but nowadays, we use it for a variety of allergic diseases such as Allergic rhinitis and as 2nd line treatment for urticaria.
Montelukast works like a steroid due to its' anti-inflammatory actions, but matagal sya mag-effect so there is a need to give it continuously. It is also best used for prevention rather than treatment of actual attacks since matagal nga mag-effect.
In terms of efficacy, though, mas effective pa rin ang nasal steroids compared to montelukast in improving symptoms of allergic rhinitis. Same with inhaled steroids.

nways, any body hear of Alveo botanical supplement? an FB friend suggested it to me, it kind of helped raw her kid to overcome asthma, and na-lessen na ang mga cough/.colds episodes.

@sis leletmd:matatanggal po ba eto eventually or un mga medications na inirereseta ay pang lifetime maintenance na..yun son ko po may AR,he is 11years old..his pedia prescribed H-one capsule for 1month.then after that i nanasal spray na siya..parang walang effect yun H-one.dapat po ba b4 bedtime para paggising niya ay hindi na siya atakihin.usually po check lahat ng symptoms pagkaggising sa umaga, should i try po switching to Montelukast,if so po mga ilang mg kaya?TIA @LELeTMd

Kahit galing po ako sa supermarket, when i get home, ligo agad bago humawak kay baby  (2-3 times a day ako may conference sa bathroom-medyo OC lang haha  )

Last wednesday i brought back my son sa pedia niya... Nagising na lang siya nung umaga na may ubot sipon, as in runny nose (first time in 6months na may sipon)... And his pedia prescribed him disudrin and virlix... Now, nabawasan napo sneezing niya and less nasal discharge na less coughing na rin... His pedia said na combination daw ng viral at allergy... Katatapos lang niya mag montelukast for 2weeks then biglang ubot sipon naman...

I remember when he was 3months old, pinagsteroids siya kase pabalikbalik yung halak niya at every morning at bago matulog may ubo at aching ng aching...

I still have high hopes na maresolve tong AR niya bago pa siya mag 1 year old... Wag sana mauwi sa asthma...

If it is really AR, then it will not resolve by 1 year old.
Allergic rhinitis and Asthma are both lifelong diseases, but the symptoms are present only after allergen exposure so if there is no allergen exposure, there should be no attacks.

It would be unethical and irresponsible of me to prescribe/suggest medications in a forum. It is your pedia who is the best person to ask regarding what medications to give to your baby. Medications should only be prescribed after a thorough history and physical examination is completed. If the meds don't seem to be working, then it is time to bring your child for a follow up check up.
That being said, may I know why next month pa mag nasal spray? And what nasal spray will be given after 1 month of anti-histamines?
As I said in the above post, Allergic rhinitis is a lifelong disease, but it doesn't mean na lifetime na ang meds. Symptoms will only occur once there is allergen exposure, which is why it is very important to identify the allergic triggers.

Hi doc lelet... May inaanak po ako... Nagkasabay din attacks nila ng baby ko. He is 3 yrs old... Kalalabas lang niya sa hospital kahapon and according to his pedia, viral at allergy in nature yung cough and colds... He was given antibiotics at virlix din po... Pero ang kakaiba po sa kanya, nagfever po cia. The night na dinala po sa hospital 40dec C ang fever... So he was discharged na kahapon pero tonight, may fever na ulet nasa 39.3 na naman... Clear naman daw ang lungs sa xray...

Kapag nagstart na daw po unuhin, nagsisimula na din daw po yung fever... May ganun po ba talaga? Or it is possible na hindi na allergy yun?

If there is always fever, then it is not allergy. It is an infection.
Viral infections, though, can increase sensitization to inhalant allergens and trigger asthma attacks.

Your pedia is right. Hindi nakakahawa ang allergy. Namamana/hereditary sya.
People who have a tendency to develop allergies through their family history are called "atopic" because "atopy" means the tendency to develop allergies.
