thanks doc... doc you mean that there are other factors to consider why there is stomach upset when you stop taking reactine or any antihistamine medicine? Like for example im taking only during weekdays then every weekends i experience stomach upset.... bakit kaya ganun doc? what would be the reason?

^ Yes, there may be other factors to consider kung bakit ka nagkaka-stomach upset.
One possible explanation (and this is just a guess since this is an explanation based on what you posted and not based on history and physical examination) is that the anti-histamine you were taking actually helped decreased your stomach symptoms/upset. kaya pag walang intake ng anti-histamine, bumabalik ang symptoms ng stomach upset.
Meron din kasing mga histamine receptors sa stomach. Ranitidine and cimetidine are medications given to fight gastritis/stomach upset and both are anti-histamines too. H2 receptors ang nilalabanan nila while H1 receptors naman ang nilalabanan ng mga kilalang anti-histamines like Cetirizine, Loratadine, and Diphenhydramine.
Or it could be totally unrelated...
I suggest you clear this up with your doctor na lang kasi you need to have a proper check up to determine the cause of your stomach upset.

doc lelet ano po ang pagkakaiba ng Cetirizine, Loratadine, desloratadine and Diphenhydramine maliban po na they are all anti-histamine medicines. my son kasi prescribed by his allergologist an aerius for his allergy. parang lahat nalang ata na anti-histamines na gamot natikman ng anak ko. last month reseta sa kanya ng pedia niya alnix, nagvirlix din po siya noon. allerkid di ko na matandaan ang iba pang naireseta sa kanya dati. same effect lang ba silang lahat doc?

kahit naka montelukast at aerius na 2yr old son ko pero mukhang inaallergy na naman siya ngayon panay sneeze niya at watery eyes and his always scratching his nose at meron narin nasal drip. ibig bang sabihin doc di maganda response ng iniinom niya ngayon na anti-histamines? thanks doc.

It depends on what type of asthma the patient has. Kung non - allergic, pwede sa pedia pulmo. Kung allergic asthma, it would be best to go to an allergologist, para madetermine ang allergic triggers. Kung asthma with allergic rhinitis, or asthma with atopic dermatitis/allergic rhinitis, dapat allergologist kasi combination na of allergic disorders.
Pwede rin namang both since the pedia pulmo can work hand in hand with the pedia allergologist.

There are 2 types of anti-histamines:
First generation anti-histamines: ex. diphenhydramine, hydroxyzine, chlorphenamine
Basically, they are short acting, effects would last 6 to 8 hours kaya need to be given several times a day. Mas marami ding adverse effects such as sedation, drowsiness and drying of secretions.

2nd generation or newer generation anti-histamines:
ex. Loratadine, Cetirizine, Desloratadine, Levocetirizine, Fexofenadine
Longer acting, can be given 1x or 2x a day; lesser sedation
Can also reduce nasal inflammation and not just itchiness

If your son is still manifesting symptoms despite good compliance with medications, then: dapat ma-review ang meds niya, ma-identify kung may persistent trigger na kailangang alisin, etc.
If symptoms appear >4x/week and there is persistent nasal congestion, then it's possible kailangan ng maintenance medications.

doc follow up question lang po. pwede po ba i-continue yung anti-histamine(aerius) kasi 2weeks lang po dapat kaso mukhang inaallergy parin po son ko. kc sa sept 8 pa balik namin sa allergo niya. pero yung montelukast niya sabi naman ng pedia pulmo niya better kung icontinue pa for atleast 4-6 weeks then observe pag ok na stop pero pag need pa till 3mos. sa aerius kaya doc ok lang kaya na ituloy? thanks in advance again doc.

The best person to answer your question regarding continuing Aerius would be your son's allergologist. I suggest you move his follow up to an earlier date para mas maaga siyang mare-evaluate. Pwede naman mag-follow up earlier, especially if the meds don't seem to be having much effect.

Dear leletmd,

Sabi ng pedia my son has allergic rhinitis. Ang symptoms nya ay runny nose and cough. Pedia prescribed ambroxol (1-2x a day), allerkid (once a day), disudrin (@bedtime), pediamox (3x a day). Sa reseta she checked allerkid and pediamox and ang intindi namin ni hubby is dapat i-prioritize yung dalawa. hanggang ngayon (after 3 days) parang walang improvement kay baby. baby is at his worse sa gabi - mega runny nose, hindi maka-dede because of sipon (para syang nalulunod), iyak ng iyak (maybe because of frustration and antok) and hindi maka-himbing ng tulog. i'm very worried na.

also, pedia said parang may kulani but she did not elaborate. ano ibig sabihin pag may kulani?

last, WHEN dapat ibigay yung meds? hesitant ako ibigay ng sabay-sabay...

sis smarie_011 ilang taon na baby mo? kasi baby ko 18mos old, lahat ng pedia (umabot pa ako ng 4th opinion) na pinuntahan namin ang sabi may asthma siya (base sa history ng family & the kulani thing), si dra lelet lang ang nagsabi sa akin na hindi sila nag didiagnose ng asthma sa toddler/baby na below two years old. And base on my instinct as a mom (even frist time) alam ko walang asthma ang anak ko, mahina lang ang baga namin pero alam ko walang hika. Base din sa SIL ko nawala daw hika ng mga anak niya (5 sila lahat) nung nag 1 year old na. and as per Dra lelet, hindi hika yun, pwedeng allergy (and forgot ko na yung ibang sinabi niya sorry). Highy recommended ko si dra lelet, todo explain pa siya (even sometimes lumilipad isip ko kapag kausap niya ako  ) and inuulit niya uli kaya kahit nasa kabilang mundo ang isipan ko noon nakukuha ko parin lahat ng sinabi niya 

sis sedentarygypsy makikisabad lang, may specific time naman na binigay ang pedia ng anak mo, yun na lang sundin mo sis, ako minsan ang ginagawa ko after 3-5mins ang next na inom ng gamot para di ganoon kasunod-sunod. Ganyan din happen sa baby ko 3days mahigit ang ubo (kala ko may pneumonia uli kasi ganoon ang hingal niya at ubo), ayaw dumede, di makatulog panay lang iyak at hinihingal, dinala ko siya sa pedia pero di ako satisfied kaya kinabukasan dinala ko kay dra lelet, yung gamot na binigay ni dra kinagabihan mahimbing na tulog ng baby ko at kinabukasan bumalik na sa pagiging makulit niya and now super kulit na at likot. May continues lang siya na gamot for 1 month para hindi magtuloy sa hika yung ubo niya

yung son k po 7 months, turning 2 weeks na po  sa sunday yung runny nose nya and turning 1 week naman po yung cough nya. nung first week disudrin. tapos nung aug 29 (mon) nagpunta kami pedia nya, nag prescribed ng alnix 2x a day .5ml & salbutamol 3x a day, 2ml. pero upto now ganun pa rin po. how will I determined po kung allergic rhinitis po yun? di ko po alam kung sa Pedia Pulmo or Pedia Allergologist po kami pupunta.

hi sis sky_butterfly17 baby ko na try ko na sa pedia-pulmo, pero mas ok na pinacheck ko siya kay dra lelet (Allergologist - Immunologist) mas mabilis bumuti pakiramdam niya at mawala ang ubo at sipon ng baby ko na pahirap sa kanya at ang laki ng pinayat niya.

Nagtry din kasi ako ng pedia pulmo, pina xray siya sa times na may ubo siya at maraming nakitang kulani, 2x kami bumalik mahigit 1week parin yung ubo niya even nagbigay na ng med, then after a week pa gumaling, di ko na binalik  ,

sabi ni dra lelet need na ma xray uli sa pahanon na clear ang lungs walang ubo o sipon para makita kung may problem talaga (kung wala talaga kulani kapag clear ang lungs), so far sa lahat ng napuntahan ko yung binigay niya na gamot kinagabihan lang nakatulog na ng mahimbing ang anak ko na 3days akong puyat dahil di siya makatulog ng maayos

nakakaawa nga si baby. di nya nga maubos yung 5oz na milk nya. laging may tirang 2oz. Anong Gamot binigay ni doc lelet sa baby mo?

^ di ko matandaan sis eh, pero very effective talaga siya sa anak ko, kasi nung napainum namin ng gabi sarap ng tulog niya, nagising lang siya nung dumede at medyo inubo. Nung hapon naman na try ko yung spray pampalambot ng sipon at nasisip naman namin (yung sa pegion mas maganda gamitin), ayun naglalaro na. If ever dito ka man sa pinas at manila area sis try mo magpacheck ke dra lelet since 1week mahigit na ang hirap ni baby, ako kasi manila area din pero kung saan-saan kami nakakarating para lang may makuha mas OK na pedia para sa anak ko.

Baka kasi sa gamot ok sa baby ko pero di pwede sa baby mo. Sa gastos naman sis di pa ako inabot ng 500 sa nabili ko, di tulad sa pedia niya dati at sa ibang pedia pinakamababa na ang 1500 na presyo ng gamot kapag pinapacheck up ko siya. Now lang medyo mahal dahil may maintenance ng 1month para di matuloy sa hika, mas ok na sa akin yun kesa habang buhay magdusa ang anak ko. Sa nakikita ko sa anak ko naman ngayon worth it naman yung gastos ko. Mas tipid pa nga ako now kung tutuusin.

How old is your son? How many episodes of runny nose and cough na siya for the past 3 months?
Why is there a need for antibiotic treatment daw?
Lymph nodes or kulani are present all over our bodies. We need them because they are the ones who produce antibodies in times of infection, allergies, wounds, etc. Normally, hindi sila nakakapa. In times of infection or allergies or wounds or kahit na dental caries (sirang ngipin), pwede silang lumaki at makapa kasi gumagawa sila ng antibodies.
Regarding when to give the meds, it would be best to ask your pedia about this since she was the one who gave the meds.

Kapag allergic rhinitis, episodic, pababalik balik, may triggers na ma-identify, may family history of allergies and the symptoms are not present the whole day. May particular time lang na present ang symptoms and this is the time na exposed siya sa triggers niya.
Kung 1st time pa lang niya to have this type of symptoms, then it is most likely not allergic rhinitis and more likely, to be an infection.
Season ngayon ng bronchiolitis. Common ito sa infants 3 months to 2 years of age. It usually starts out as a cold/runny nose then later on the patient may develop cough from the prolonged cold. Physical examination of the lungs may reveal wheezing kaya madalas napagkakamalan itong asthma. Pwedeng tumagal ang symptoms, umabot ng weeks to months at studies have shown that bronchiolitis caused by RSV may predispose the patient to develop asthma later on. Treatment is supportive and may be similar to asthma management (nebulization, etc.) if there is wheezing.
I am not saying your baby has bronchiolitis since I cannot diagnose your baby based on your posts. What I am trying to say is that there are other reasons for prolonged cough and colds particularly in infants below 2 years of age.

sis same tayo,,7 months naman baby ko. turning 2 weeks na yung colds nya tapos turning 1 week naman yung cough,, ano ano meds na natake ng baby mo? ako una disudrin, tapos ngayon salbutamol & alnix naman.. pero parang walang improvement. di ko tuloy alam san ko sya dadalin
