@doc lelet..-Bakit po kaya simula nag seretide daughter ko nagka allergic rhinitis na sya?Dati naman po asthma lang.Nung nacontrol na asthma,naging AR naman.[textspeak!] po allergo ko dati na daw meron yun di ko lang napapansin,pero doc talagang wala, asthma lang talaga.Di po kaya side effect yun ng seretide?Kaya po kahit na naka nasonex sya nag sneeze pa rin sa umaga.And doc bakit po kaya sumasakit tyan nya pag umiinom kahit vits lang,kaya ngayon honey lang iniinom nya.TIA.

^ Pag sea water solution like Sterimar and Physiomer, mahal talaga...
Kung saline wash lang ang kailangan, maraming cheap preparations like Salinase, Muconase and Nasoclear. They're all below 100 pesos if I'm not mistaken.

Question mga sis:

Yung mga pedia nyo ba na nagrereseta ng anti-allergy pedia allergologist? or pedia ent? My son is 3yr old and sa tingin ko namana nya ang allergic rhinitis ko. Sinasabi namin sa pedia namin na sinisipon nga every night and every morning, pero wala namang meds na pinrescribe for that. Today may ubo sya and pag nagsasalita parang mas inuubo at hindi nya natutuloy [textspeak!] salita. i think pharyngitis yun, kasi nagkaron ako nun dati. Pwede kaya sya sa regular ENT?

sinusumpong na naman ng allergic rhinitis ang baby ko. bahing na naman ng bahing. balik allerkid na naman.

sis doc leletmd, pag AR po ba sa kids same as adults who sneezes alot. My son seems to have itchy nose watery eyes and shiners pati atopic dermatitis. But he doesn't sneeze only the throat seems to be itchy.

^ Hindi kaya may post nasal drip kaya makati ang throat? Does he do frequent throat clearing?
Allergic rhinitis has 4 basic symptoms (for both adults and kids): sneezing, clear nasal discharge, itchiness and nasal congestion. Symptoms are episodic (will appear during allergen exposure only) and sometimes would resolve on its' own (kapag wala ng exposure to the offending allergen).
Other clues to allergic rhinitis: frequent scratching of eyes and nose, allergic shiners, mouth breathing as well as noisy breathing during sleep or snoring. Persistent nasal congestion and mouth breathing may bring about dental malformations such as malocclusion.

doc, after i brought my 2yr old son sa pedia pulmo which she prescribed mpntelukast for 2weeks I also consulted him sa allergologist pedia which she prescribed naman antihistamine for 2weeks. then a week after taking meds ipa skin test po son ko for household allergens. Doc, di ko po kasi sinabi na pinaconsult ko rin po son ko sa pulmo ok lang po pagsabayin ang montelukast sa antihistamin meds. wala po kayang side effect. One more thing doc, nagdiahrea po ang son ko from the 1st day na nagtake siya ng montelukast at nagsusuka po as in matubig din po suka niya with clear phlegm po but im not sure kung sa montelukast ba talaga ang cause ng pagtatae niya as in water po ang pop niya during the first day then the 2nd and 3rd day basa parin po pop niya i gave hin erceflora 2x a day. thanks God at naging ok na po pop niya today at di narin nagsusuka. Doc posible po ba na dahil sa pagtake niya ng montelukast. ano po side effect if meron. thanx doc.

It is ok for your son to take montelukast together with the anti-histamines. Madalas talaga naming pinagsasabay ang 2 meds na yan.
Diarrhea is not one of the common side effects of Montelukast. It is considered generally safe, but for some patients, it may cause agitation, anxiety and hyperactivity.
I also suggest that you tell your allergologist that you also went to a pulmo and vice versa. They have a right to know if you have brought your son to a different doctor and should know what work ups were done, what meds were given para maiwas ang doble doble na meds, errors in prescriptions etc. I am sure hindi naman sila magagalit if you tell them that you also consulted a different sub-specialist.
Always be honest with your son's doctors kasi they depend on you for the proper information.

thank you doc. yes doc but i said to his main pedia that i brought my son to pedia pulmo and allergo to have him checked and have second opinion as to what his pedia cardio advised to resume his ptb meds for another 3mos. all of them disagree because the clinical evaluation to my child was more on allergist why he had some phlegm most of the time. resuming kids kit 2 was not there option. the main pedia noted that no need to resume the tb meds based on her evalaution to my son and to the result of his x-ray w/c was clear lungs. she just agreed as to what the pulmo and allergo noted about my son and to the meds thay're prescribed.

thank you doc lelet w/o your advises to consult to these specialist i might have started giving tb meds to my son coz i bought already but opted to seek your  suggestion first here on fn before giving the meds and i thankful to you doc. God bless you...

@leletmd, thanks for the clarification about the dosage of Kastorion.  I bought the 5 mg chewable tablets for my 4-year old kids (gasp!).  So now, back to Montiget 4 mg chewable tablets kami.

I have been diagnosed to have sinusitis (after a CT scan on the head).  The ENT doctor said it's connected to my history of allergy but he did not elaborate, or I just did not fully understand his explanation.  What does he mean kaya?

Sinusitis is considered to be a complication of allergic rhinitis. The other complications are: recurrent otitis media or ear infections, allergic conjunctivitis, pharyngitis/post nasal drip (sometimes pati tonsils lumalaki from the chronic irritation) and asthma.
When a patient with allergic rhinitis develops any of the complications, then it's time to re-assess if the meds that the patient are taking are enough to control his/her symptoms or baka dapat kailangan ng mag-start ng maintenance meds.
Did the ENT say if it is acute or chronic sinusitis? Medyo matagal kasi ang treatment if chronic sinusitis.

^ He onlysaid that it might take a while for the symptoms to disappear.  He prescribed an antibiotic, Co-amoxiclav, and med for allergy, Levocetirizine.  I am supposed to take the meds for 12days then I will go back in two weeks for a follow-up.

^ Ok, in that case, baka acute pa lang (recent infection) since antibiotic treatment is only for a short period of time. Pag chronic kasi, usually 21 days of treatment.

baka kaya pala parang mas 'hyper' ang anak ko these days... kasi since June pa sya naka-montelukast! I mean, baka nadadagdagan ang kulit at likot nya (as an almost 4 year old)

anyway, just sharing na my son responded to nebulization on top of the cetirizine and montelukast... nag-clear ang lungs nya... but he's still coughing talaga lalo na pag mornings and afternoons/night and pag may changes in temperature... kawawa... so now he's prescribed steroid nasal spray na din on top of the Salinase spray

I can't help but worry na papunta na syang asthma... he has never been sensitive/sickly like this but since June nga, the meds list (and the things to be done for him) have just grown...

weather kaya? haysst... sorry, sad lang.

at nakakaloka... 3 na kaming on Cetaphil skin cleanser and moisturizing lotion... haha.. ang mahal!

@delisyus, sa S & R sale next month, may chance kang mag-hoard ng Cetaphil cleanser and lotion, usually naka-price off ang Cetaphil kapag may members' treat.  Sa Duty Free, mas mura din ang Cetaphil.

I use Cetaphil to clean my face kasi.

Back to topic, sana naman gumaling na ang son mo kasi hirap ng steroid Nasal spray.  Kahit pa nasal spray iyan, nakaka-praning pa din kasi ang bata pa niya.

baby ko sabi may asthma lahat ng pedia na napuntahan namin even pedia-pulmo (sa kulani na nakita sa xray sila nag base at sa history ng family), pero si dra lelet lang ang nasabi sa amin na hindi pa sila nagcoconsider na may hika kung wala pang 2 yrs old ang bata (at naka hinga ako ng maluwag, text ko agad ke hubby buti may signal sila now tuwang tuwa nga siya e  ) kasi sabi ng SIL ko lahat daw ng anak niya may hika at nung nag 1 year old nawala. pero base sa explanation ni dra lelet sa akin na maaring napagkakamalang hika lang yun, nakalimutan ko yung sinabi niya parang allergic rhinitis din ata. sa gamot ng baby ko now masigla na siya at super likot na naman. kala mo di nang galing sa sakit. thanks God & dra lelet talaga.

sana nga kung magbigay ng kung ano mang test sa baby ko  sana normal lahat even pc wala (help us God)

sis smarie_011 dati nung sabi na may asthma baby ko at kapag sinusumpong (ubo ng matigas) nebulizer kami agad, then lagi bilad sa araw kapag umaga yung likod ni baby na may kasama "pak-pak" sa likod bandang lungs area para daw lumambot ang plema, yun kasi ang ginagawa dun sa kapitbahay namin may hika. better ask sis dra lelet kung ano dapat gawin sis

ask ko lang po if flu vaccine can cause/trigger allergic rhinitis? My son had his 1st shot of flu vaccine vax (vaxigrip) last aug 13. then yesterday (sun aug 21) may konting clease nasal discharge na po sya. tapos panay ang sneeze, ang kakamot sa eyes, though before po nag sneeze naman sya pero unlike yesterday na madalas po. yung pagkamot ng eyes, nagkakamot po sya ng eyes pag inaantok

No, the flu vaccine cannot trigger the development of allergic rhinitis. 
At your baby's age, it would most likely be a viral infection rather than allergic rhinitis since we don't generally diagnose allergic rhinitis at that age. Marami kasing viral infections that can mimic rhinitis and asthma symptoms in infants. A child can have 8 upper respiratory tract infections/year.
Also, to diagnose allergic rhinitis, dapat paulit ulit upon specific allergen exposure, walang systemic symptoms (no fever, etc.) and episodic lang. Symptoms are not present the whole day.
