pina check-up ko kahapon yung 4yo daughter ko sa pedia, pano hindi nawawala yung parang "halak" nya, at may occasional cough sya lalo na sa umaga, minsan kapag nasasamid pa nasusuka sya..akala ko it's an ordinary cough lang, yun pala allergic rhinitis nga daw..may resetang antibiotic (i forgot the name), virlix syrup at decongestant na din..it can lead to asthma pala kung hindi naagapan..napraning ako dun

...after 10 days balik kame sa pedia nya..

^ Your pedia is right. If allergic rhinitis is not well treated, it can lead to the development of asthma. Actually, the early morning cough you mentioned is more of asthma than allergic rhinitis.
Allergic rhinitis is actually more common than asthma, but it is often overlooked because the symptoms don't last the whole day.
The 4 main symptoms of allergic rhinitis are: sneezing, itchiness of the eyes, ears, nose and throat, watery nasal discharge and nasal congestion. The first 3 are the main symptoms in acute allergic rhinitis, but nasal congestion is usually found in the later parts of the disease.
These symptoms appear when a person is exposed to their allergic triggers and goes away when the allergic triggers are gone. This differentiates it from infectious colds where these symptoms are usually present all day long.
Does your child have sinusitis or ear infection? I'm just wondering why antibiotics were given. It's not part of the usual treatment regimen of AR kasi.

i have this and sana si baby wag magkaroon nito. so far naman, no signs pero ako kasi recently din lang nagkaroon ng rhinitis, as in everyday sneeze and itchy nose:(

leletmd..nagkaroon kase sya before ng otitis media, last month lang..yung naman kase hindi nakalabas ng maayos yung sipon nya..sabi naman ng pedia nya, hindi naman acute AR yun..at pasalamat na din ako na yung symptoms na nasabi mo hindi ko naman nakita sa anak ko yun, hindi ko naman din na question yung antibiotic sa pedia nya

bjgem: ok, your pedia must be considering recurrence of otitis media as well. naconfuse lang ako when you mentioned that your baby didn't have the symptoms I mentioned. You need kasi to have at least 1 or 2 of the symptoms I mentioned, in relation to an allergic trigger to be able to diagnose allergic rhinitis.Sometimes, you may also have cough in relation to post nasal drip. Pls. don't get me wrong, I am not trying to question the diagnosis of your pedia.

Just trying to offer some helpful information about Allergic rhinitis.

..ibig ko sabihin sa hindi ko na question yung antibiotic kase tuwing nagkakasakit (bihira naman) yung anak ko hindi nawawala yung may antibiotic..anyway, doctor ka sis?

..

actually, "suspetsa" lang yung AR kase naman may dark circle sa eyes nya at mahilig magkamot ng ilong, iniisip ko nga baka naman yung nararanasan ng anak ko eh associated sa dating sakit nya eh..maraming salamat sis sa info ha..

Ah, ok, those dark circles are probably "allergic shiners" at yung pagkakamot nya ng nose ay "allergic salute" so probably nga AR sya

^sis naiinip ako sa resulta ng homeopathic treatment ng anak ko para sa allergic rhinitis kasi 1 course is 6 weeks then rest ng 2 wks. Pag meron pa rin symptoms e another course ulit. D ba lumalala at maglead sa asthma during the course nung homeophatic treatment?

^ Sis stormy, I am not a homeopathic doctor so I can't really comment on their treatment for allergic rhinitis

, but in general, if a patient doesn't respond to treatment or symptoms are not treated well/correctly, then it is possible for complications of Allergic rhinitis to develop.

I haven't brought him yet sa pedia niya. But yes, he wakes up with mild colds that goes away and comes back by night or I'm not sure what triggers it. He keeps on sneezing everytime may allergy.

My dad has asthma and my hubby has the same case of sneezing too.

Is there a way to prevent this from worsening? Kawawa naman kasi.

hi sis leletmd my 17 month old daughter nagigising nalang sa madaling araw umiiyak kasi barado ang ilong nya pero wala naman cya sipon ano kaya yun bakit kaya cya ganun madalas mangyari to sis naiistorbo tuloy tulog nya. TIA

Sis cheskacruz: if it is happening daily and it already interferes with every day life, sleeping, etc., then I suggest you bring your eldest to the pedia, at least. It is possible he needs maintenance meds already and needs to be seen by an allergist.

Sis smarie_011: Baradong ilong or nasal congestion means the sipon can't get out. If it is already happening nightly and is disturbing her sleep, then it's time to head to the pedia. She may need saline nasal sprays or anti-histamines already. Do you have a history of asthma or allergies in the family? Check also if your aircon is too cold because cold temperature can trigger nasal congestion.
