for the fever, take paracetamol.  for the colds, take salinase drops lang... i wonder bakit hindi nire-reseta kay baby like alnix, nasatapp tuwing magka-sipon si baby.  palaging salinase lang.  ang hirap matulog tuloy ni baby.

My pedia never prescribe cold medicines. If allergic in nature ang cause, she prescribes allergy meds. Pero usually sterimar only (nasal spray) plus increase in fluid intake. In US, pedias rarely prescribe cold meds.

If barado ang nose, ask your doctor if puwede steam inhalation. Also ask your pedia if you can suction the nose to remove excess sipon. We use pigeon tube suction. Different 'to from the bulb type

I just started reading this thread yesterday and was interested in giving probiotics to my baby. So today I passed by a mercury and luckily they had protexin it's so expensive pala! 1,200 for 15 sachets, so if daily it would be 2,400++ per month! I'm thinking of maybe giving it to her every other day or 3 times a week nalang.

The box is intended for babies and children but doesn't specify what age. My baby is turning 3 months next week, is it ok for her to begin probiotics? I'll check out the OMX one this weekend also.

^ sis, that's expensive, for me at least. Haha. This was recommended to me by a friend. Her son is taking it but he's 2 years old na, my daughter is 18m. I asked my brother in NY to buy for me then send via JAC, cannot be via po box because it has to be kept cold. A few days with JAC is ok.

^^my son is taking neobiotics naman. he just started last week. so far, so good. he's 14mos by the way. originally, i give him yakult for his probiotics but since he got sick last week and i was scared he might just puke if i give him yakult, i opted for the powder version instead.

Is it ok to keep switching brands of probiotics?

Also is it possible for my baby to become dependent on probiotics, like if I give it regularly and stop (due to not being able to buy or whatnot) would it upset her tummy and digestion?

Yeah super expensive ang protexin. But I think in terms of # of lactobacillus organisms, mas madami 'to. I only give this when I see my kids are getting a little sick already. Tipong there are symptoms that they're coming down with something bad or there's someone in the house who is sick as well.

What dr. Cricket prescribed my daughter before & what I'm currently giving my kids daily is the animal parade acidophilus. This is chewables and even my 18mo takes this. My daughter before when she was 2-3yo hirap with the chewables so we have a tablet grinder. We grind a tablet then mix it with a little water & she takes it through dropper. But since your baby is only 3mos, I dont think she can take this yet. Flavored din kasi 'to & she might have reactions to this.

^ sis, how did you introduce chewables to your son? I was thinking of getting chewable eh but was afraid my daughter might choke if she doesnt chew. So i figured powder is better then mix with her drink na lang.

Is animal parad available locally? Does it need to be kept cold/refrigerated? I've read kasi that probiotics are recommended to be kept cold to maintain the bacteria count, or at least lessen their "disintegration". Some reviews said probuotics that do not be refrigerated are not as potent/effective.

When he's 16-17mos I started giving him chewables. But Iba kasi son ko, he's a "chewing monster". Kahit tough ang meat, bale wala sa kanya. So the transition to chewables was easy. We just gave it to him and he started chewing it. Lol! My daughter, she had a hard time with chewables when she 2-3yo. So we either grind it or cut up the chewables so it is more manageable for her to chew the smaller pieces. We bought the tablet cutter/grinder from healthy options. We also bought the probiotics there. We put the bottle inside the cupboard. That's the reco naman, cool &dry place. A bottle is 90tabs & since there are 2 of them who takes it, they finish it in a month & a half. No worries for me re disintegration since we don't stock it for a long time. Maybe for your daughter you can find someone to split the bottle? Matagal tagal din kasi ang 90 days to finish 1.

Btw, if I remember correctly, Iba yung microorganism is protexin sa animal parade. Protexin is lactobacillus and animal parade is acidophilus. But dr. Cricket said ok Lang naman ang acidophilus.

im not so sure if its available in manila since I'm based abroad ask your pedia first regarding this since your baby is just 3mos old. if your baby's EBF i don't think there's a need for this tho.

My husband called me and told me that my daughter has vomitted 5 times na daw since this afternoon. Parang phlegm and saliva yung vino-vomit. Wala naman fever and hinde naman umiiyak but parang mejo matamlay. Wrong timing pa, I cant go home early cus I need to cover my colleague's 2 hours of training kase na-admit din sa hospital this morning. I feel so helpless. Wala naman din cough and colds, bakit kaya?

Thanks sis Grayce. I'll canvass nalang first at GNC and Healthy Options then ask my pedia for her recommendation. I stopped breastfeeding at 7 weeks so I'd like to give her supplements narin, though at 3 months she's never been sick yet *knock on wood*. i've gotten sick twice na since giving birth but she hasn't yet, thank goodness!

Ava has UTI, she's admitted na sa hospital sa amin sa province, dun kasi sya the whole summer sa mga lola nya para naman makapagbakasyon ng maayos at ng hindi exposed sa polution,   going there tom.   4 days na daw kasi pabalik balik ang fever and the pedia diagnosis is UTI nga,   she's 4 yrs old and still in her diapers pag gabi, sabi ni pedia dun, yun daw ang possible cause ng UTI.

kaka celebrate lang namin last weekend, enjoy na enjoy pa sya sa party nya tapos nagkasakit naman.  lapit na pa mandin ng recital nya, and dapat sa sunday, santa cruzan nya.

inadmit na sya kasi naba bother na mga lola nya.

Hunny_ally, thanks for yoir reply. Most probiotics i see are recommended to be refrigerated. It's the high temp that's not good daw. Pero mixed reviews din kasi.

But i will stick with powder na muna. That baby jarrow that i posted a link of. It has FOS, which is prebiotics naman. The product has rave reviews. I just hope my brother is able to buy for me.

on the question asked above if it is ok to switch probiotic brands, it is actually recommended to switch probiotic strains every now and then. So in our case, once naubos na ang isang bottle, I give them a different probiotic strain na for the next round.
Also, in my experience, they dont get dependent naman on the probiotics as far as I can tell. I usually give my kids a break from supplements every month or so for a week.

ofcourse it is always best to ask the pedia for everything.  just so happened na-realize ko nalang when i got home or baka nga after a day or 2 pa after our visit to the pedia.   i'm a 1st time mom, and only 1year palang, kaya dami ko pa malaman.  when i visit the pedia, dami naming napapag-usapan, in fact, sinusulat ko pa nga sa baby book/ reseta, etc mga details (ex. reason of our visit to the pedia, how & when to do something, etc).  just so happened na hindi ko narin agad na-realize why nga ba laging salinase lang ang reseta ni pedia for baby's colds.  oops! i remember na.  my SIL kasi nga pala, nag-advice to give alnix, and a friend mentioned nasatapp, kaya i started to wonder our pedia only prescribing salinase... we have it in the house and also sterimar, and 2kinds of nasal suctions.  i didn't give to baby the alnix & nasatapp, ofcourse because they are not prescribed.

^^like I said in my earlier post some doctors are conservative in giving/prescribing medicines. Some of them do not give cold medicines (i.e. Nasatapp).

A tip...it is important that you have a way of contacting your Pedia outside office hours. Like sa case ng anak mo, nahihirapan na pa Lang huminga and the spray your doctor is not helping. You should be able to contact the Pedia & tell her if you can give or do anything para lumuwag ang paghinga. This will be extra important on emergency cases.
