carbo betulae is a homeopathic medication.
When using homeopathic medication, you look at a whole array of symptoms. Hindi lang porke nagsusuka, carbo betulae na agad. Homeopathic practitioners are trained to analyze the symptoms in order to make a better assessment so they can come up with a treatment protocol.

stormy, true rain.. nililist ko din kasi yung mga binigay na gamot kay kyle dito para pag uwi ko sa pinas, mapakita ko kay dr. chen.. cut out ko yung box tas keep ko sa folder anong date yun inissue kay kyle and ano dosage binigay and for how many days.. at the same time, i keep a record of medicines na nababasa ko.. for future reference lang din..

my daughter who's turning 2 this december is also sick.  after nya maconfine sa capitol medical center for a week due to pneumonia last march parang every month or every other month she gets the worst kind of coughs and colds.  as in hindi makahinga or makatulog, mahina ang appetite dahil nga sa coughs and colds, then suka ng suka ng phlegm.  never naman siya nagka-fever.  shempre we take her to the doctor every single time and we've seen 3-4 other pedia na nga.  most of them prescribes nebulization plus antibiotics, sometimes yung very strong variant pa nga na antibiotic, forgot the brand pero 3 days lang tine-take yun or yung iba naman, regular 7 days na inuman and minsan extended pa yun up to 10 days.  she gets better naman pero after 2 weeks or so, ayan nanaman si ubo at sipon.  haaay... 

tapos nagpatest na din kami for PTB, as her orig pedia had insisted (tho, duda naman talaga ako na may PTB ang baby ko kasi aside from the cough, wala naman siyang ibang symptoms)  negative naman yung xray and skin test ng daughter ko but the pedia insisted na magpa-xray pa din kaming lahat na nasa household to be really sure.  grabe ang gastos!

anyway, sinumpong ulit siya last week so we brought her to a pediatric allergologist, immunologist, asthma pedia na.  (kay dra. olive de jesus--any patients of hers here?) her diagnosis was asthma and bronchitis daw, and she says na allergy daw to something kaya nati-trigger ang coughs and colds nya.  my daughter was prescribed with antibiotics again (augmentin), antihistamine (zyrtec), anti-asthma (combivent salbumatol) and another medicine (i forgot the name/type).  tapos sabi nung doctor baka my daughter will need a 'maintenance' medicine pa which we'll probably discuss after ma-address yung current coughs and colds nya. aside from that, we may need to do a skin test to identify the allergen triggering the said coughs and colds. 

im getting slightly depressed na nga about all this.  i mean, i breastfed her exclusively for almost a year, kumpleto ang vaccines, sagana sa food and vitamins, ok naman appetite nya, pero ayan nagkakasakit pa din then pabalik-balik pa.  tapos, andami nya pang meds na iniinom eh hindi ako comfortable sa idea na nagme-meds ang bata.  tapos nanjan pa the possibility of needing 'maintenace meds' for her asthma, gosh! she's too young, just about to turn 2 yo. then there's the skin test pa -- i know na ok naman talaga na ma-identify yung allergen nya pero SUPER DAMING shots nun.  wawa naman baby ko, andaming tusok nun! (my step-sister had that done when she was a kid) then what, babawalan siya to eat almost everything like how is was for my step-sister? sorry if i sound like a raving maniac here...talagang nawiwindang lang ako sa sakit ng daughter ko.

sabi ni husband, ganun daw talaga yun.  consult a general practitioner, you'll get a 'general' diagnosis.  consult an allergologist, very likely na ang diagnosis is 'allergies' etc.  hindi ko na alam kung ano ang gagawin ko or kung sino ang paniniwalaan ko.  sadness talaga...

^ The maintenance medicine that the doctor referred to could be Montelukast.  My sons, who were also breastfed are on the same med, and so am I.   It's not so bad actually.  It has worked wonders for me and my sons.  And, unlike the usual asthma meds na may steroids, Montelukast has not shown adverse side effects on children.  And may cheaper brands na ng Montelukast that are available in the market.

Do you have a history of allergy in the family?
Do you have carpets?  Curtains? Anything that gathers dust?
Do you have pets?

A pedia-allergologist can really help you identify the triggers and manage your child's symptoms.  The way you have described it seems that your daughter could have asthma.  Ganyan din kasi symptoms ko at ng sons ko.  Stick to one doctor na lang para ma-trace mabuti ang history.  Take down notes.  You have to be organized about this and set aside your emotions in the meantime.  When do the symptoms start?  What time/s of the day does the coughing occur?

^^sis ang son ko din last year had the same case as your child.. On/off ang cough and colds.. every 2 weeks from October 09 til December.. Twice sya naconfine, Oct09 Diagnosis ng pedia dito sa SG was bronchiolitis and Dec09 Pedia sa pinas (bulacan) asthma.. he was prescribed with Montelukast for 2 months (Jan to Feb 2010) and inhaler namin sya twice a day for a month ito.. eto yung prescription ng pedia sa bulacan.. so far so good.. Since March this year until present, hindi pa namin naeencounter yung extreme cough and colds na naexperience namin last year..

ok din na meron second opinion but it's best meron at least 1 na nakasubaybay sa history ni baby.. you may want to try looking for homeopathic doctors.. kay Dr. Cricket Chen kami nagpaprescribe ng vitamins..

during my kid's recent bout of allergy. montelukast din prescribed sa kanya tsaka another antihistamine na syrup. chewable sya so gusto sya ng anak ko. makatulog man lang ng maayos.

if pabalik balik na, best to see a pedia-allergologist for allergy symptoms relief/mgt.

we saw the pedia-allergo (dra. olivia de jesus) yesterday and im so glad i came to see her personally. the doctor was able to explain the details more clearly to me so ok na ako dun sa mga recommendations nya for treatment of allergic rhinitis & asthma.  happy din naman ako kasi after a week of treatment na binigay nya, ok naman ang response ng daughter ko.  yun lang, we will have to continue the zyrtec syrup (the anti-histamine) and singulair (thats the med that one i forgot the name of from my post before)  for 3 more weeks, total of 1 month bale.  from there dun na magdedecide if my daughter will still need maintenance meds.  as for the skin test, hindi naman daw immediate yung need so no need to be concerned muna.

yung singulair pala is already the MONTELUKAST that you mommies have mentioned a while ago.  we actually asked the doctor about using generic brands kasi nga singulair is quite expensive (most expensive pa nga yata?) but she said that singulair the montelukast brand that was backed-up by intensive research and study about its safety and effectivity kaya talagang mas mahal.  the generic ones who's riding on the research may work as well pero she cannot attest to the safety and effectivity of those daw. of course kung generic lang daw ang afford ng parents eh better na daw yun than wala.  sis marose17 & sis pear, what brand are you using pala?

also we still have thing hanging issue about my daughter having primary complex.  as per recco of the orig pedia (not the pedia-allergo), she wanted to rule-out PTB dati kasi nga recurring yung cough nung daughter ko so she had my daughter and all of us sa household na magpa-xray.  one of our helpers had a 'suspicious density' readng sa xray nya, and so pinaulit namin and we even had the helper do an apical lordotic (closer xray inspection?)  tapos ang result naman is 'indeterminate'.  because of that, the orig pedia recommended that our daughter get a PPD skin test and to our relief. negative naman ang result.  despite that, the pedia still wanted to go ahead and give primary complex medication na to my daughter.  siyempre hesitant naman ako kasi wala namang symptoms yung daughter ko (aside from the cough) so ayaw ko sana siya mag-meds ng basta-basta, ang tagal kayang gamutan nun then hindi naman ako convinced na necesary siya. anyway, nagpa-second opinion ako kay dra. de jesus and she said its best that we confirm the xray of our daughter pag wala na talaga yung ubo nya. baka daw kasi covered ng phlegm ang lungs nya noon so the xray wasnt able to detect anything.  pag ok naman daw, no need for the primary complex meds.  im ok with that na.

BUT, as for our helper, sabi ni doc, the xray results na may 'suspicious densities' plus the apico na may 'indeterminate' result is already a strong indication na meron ngang PTB or nagkaroon dati ng PTB si helper.  chances are, she may have an active (the contagious kind) or the latent (not contagious) kind of PTB.  we can do a sputum test to confirm if what she has is the contagious kind, but as with any test, the results may vary depending on the quality of the sample (spit) na isusubmit. anyway, regardless of the result of that sputum test, definitely kailangan pa din daw mag-undergo ng medication for PTB ni helper.   even if what she has is the latent kind, her PTB can always recur and become active (even while undergoing the medication?) so in short, high-risk talaga si helper not only to our daughter, but even to us na adults.  we have to let the helper go na talaga.  how do i tell the helper that she has to go na in a 'nice way' is my current predicament. naku moral lesson talaga, if we're getting a new maid, ipapa-xray ko na (pati testing for hepa, kailangan din di ba) haaaay! pati ba naman maid poproblemahin ko pa?

^ Sis, we use Montiget and Kastorion.  My pulmonologist since I was in high school, Dr. Bella Siasoco (from UP-PGH and baka naging professor pa siya nina Dr. Olive and Dr. Michelle) and my sons' allergologist, Dr. Michelle de Vera (also from UP, same as Dr. Olive Geronimo-de Jesus - I think she's the sister of my high school classmate) tell me that we can definitely use the cheaper brands if we want to save money.  Singulair is very expensive!  My sons used the Singulair granules in sachet when they were super young - P60+ per sachet.  Since I have twins, ang sakit sa bulsa. Kastorion 10 mg (for me ha, my sons are taking 5 mg) is around P350 per 25 tablets and Montiget 10 mg is a bit more expensive than Kastorion.  So far, these cheaper brands have been just as effective as the expensive brand.

But if the price is not an issue with you, stick to Singulair.

Sis, just tell the helper that she needs to go on a vacation at magpagaling muna kamo siya.  Do not hesitate to let her go because your daughter's health should come first before that of your helper's feelings.

right now singulair is P51 (or 57?) per sachet. the doctor recommended that we use if for a total of 4 weeks lang muna.  siguro we'll stick with that muna but if she will be needing to take it longer than that we'll try the generic ones na.  i'll take note of the brands you mentioned sis marose.  do they have those in dissovable powder? hindi pa kasi nakakapag-tablet ang daughter ko eh.

^ There's a brand called Kastair that sells Montelukast in granule form also.

By the way, when you give the granules, dissolve mo siya sa konting liquid lang, like an ounce lang para sure na mauubos ng baby.  Kung sa maraming ounces kasi at may natira, baka hindi full dosage ang makuha ng daughter mo.

Sa case ko at ng kids ko, at the onset of the -ber months, naka-Montelukast na kami until summer na.

slightly OT, my hubby also has asthma and allergic rhinitis.  baka pwede din ang montelukast sa kanya.  he used to use yung seretide discus everyday for maintenance pero now he hardly does that.

^ Your hubby should see his doctor and get a prescription.  It has worked well for me since I started taking it two years ago.

galing kami ng pedia yesterday.. we initally thought it was tigdas hangin.. hindi pala... she has sores inside her mouth tsaka ngayon lumabas na yung rash near her mouth na din
we don't know where we got it..
we spent the long weekend sa tagaytay at my mom's house.. andun lang mga bata and the yayas. (niece 6yrs old, nephew 11 months old and gianna 1 yr old)..hinde sila lumabas ng bahay..
nagpunta kami sandali sa cemetery di pa nga kami tumagal ng 1 hour kasi we needed to go home kaagad..
nilagnat sila sabay sabay noong tuesday..
