When our kids get sick

mga mommies, don't know if it's just a coincidence but the son (lesss than a year old) of my officemate was diagnosed with myocarditis (inflamation of the heart) last week.  the pedia detected the condition early so the baby of my officmeate was hospitalized for a week only and was released this week. my officemate is from davao.

early this morning, the 12-year old nephew of my friend was rushed to the hospital because of myocarditis also.  the child is now critically ill and confined in a hospital.  the child is from cavite.

i don't know if it's pure coincidence but i just want to share this.

Hi mga Sis, my kid has a cough since last week pa. He just finished his anti biotic, Augmentin , prescribed by his pedia + Ambroxol. Pero ganun pa din parang alkansya tunog ng ubo nya. from dry cough naging phlegm na. Can I give him Solmux, kasi pag ito gamot nya ubo sya ng ubo until he throws up.. need kasi marelease phlegm nya..

sis ang baby ko ngayon meron din ubo at sipon.. sinusukua nya ang phlegm which is a relief for him.. once ko pa lang napainom ng gamot (prospan kagabi).. ang tina-take nya ngayon is oregano extract 3 times a day AND honey+lemon twice a day (1 tablespoon each tapos warm mo sa microwave for 15seconds)..

second day pa lang ng ubo/sipon nya..

ganito din yung sa daughter ko. when her cough and colds progressed to almost a week, she was placed in antibiotic.

for cough, i give chestal cough syrup and allergy relief for the colds. both are homeopathic meds from healthy options. but i noticed this is only effective at the onset. kapag medyo matagal na yung cough and colds and i only give these then, it doesnt work anymore.

sis tanda mo pa kung anong brand ito?mukhang kailangan may nakastandby kaming ganito sa bahay..

Pag one year old above na din ang bata, pwede na sya sa SLKH concoction... it's basically sampaloc, luya, kalamansi and honey... but normally, I just boil some slices of ginger and then strain, and add calamansi to the tea... my son likes it naman and very helpful sya sa colds and coughs talaga... even for me

^ sis sa sm makati meron akong nakitang oregano (local, iba pa po yung italian oregano).dun sa labas ng grocery.plant section.. yung honey, karamihan sa grocery, sm, landmark, rustans..meron nun..

meron na po ba sa inyo nakapagtry magpahid ng vicks sa paa ng infant then suot ng medyas? di pa din kasi gumagaling ang ubo ng baby ko..

^hindi ko pa na-try sis.. pero if meron ka makita eucalyptus oil, it helps soothe their breathing din..

di ko pa din natry yung vicks feeling over para sa baby (feeling ko lang naman yun!) to help ease yung breathing nya i put yung Earth and Me Cold and Flu Rub sa chest and back. sarap ng amoy nya, pati si hubby nakikigamit pag sinisipon din sya. hehe.

^ saa talampakan lang kasi ang pahid sis then medyas kaya feeling ko pwede na din.. hugasan na lang ang paa pag nagalit si baby.. plan ko nga sana pagamit yung giga cold rub kaso maya pa ko makakabili at bukas pa makakarating kay baby kaya vicks na lang muna.. yung mga may violent reactions po sa giga cold rub, pakipigilan po ako agad..

talaga, bawal vicks? buti nalang di ko pa natry ivicks anak ko pay sipon o ubo. Ang gamit ko kasi diniega oil (from cebu) pinapahid ko sa dibdib niya at effective talaga toh. narerelief siya kagad, kahit sa mga sakit ng tiyan at mga kagat kagat.. Bata pa kami eto na rin gamit ng mama ko sa amin ng mga kapatid kaya subok na talaga namin.

^ Actually, using vicks in children less than 2 y.o is not really recommended since it has been shown to cause chemical pneumonitis ( a type of pneumonia caused by inhalation of the mentholated chemical ingredients).

Bakit ang son ko monthly na lang kung magka ubo. kung kelan magiging ok ang katawan nya, saka naman sya uubuhin tapos papayat ng konti.

Madalas kasi natataaon na nakakainom sya ng malalamig, matatamis tapos ayun uubuhin na. kaya pag mejo naririnig ko na na inuubo sya, i give him solmux / ambrolex. Depende kung may phlegm yun kasi madalas na ireseta sa kanya.

Cough medicine is not advisable for children.   My kids' pedia NEVER prescribes Solmux and the like for cough/colds and only prescribes antibiotics for cough lasting more than 1 week, and depending on other symptoms.  She said that Solmux and the cough medicines only mask the coughing but do not cure the real problem.  Also, it hampers with the baby's development of resistance to infection.

I suggest you take your son to an allergologist.  He might have allergies kaya inuubo madalas.  Check your surroundings - do you have carpets, stuffed toys, curtains, etc. that attract dust mites?  Are his bed/crib sheets regularly changed?  Do you regularly vacuum the mattress?

with my son naman sis, dati laging may sipon then ubo.. dahil pala yun sa vit c. sabi ng pedia nakakaallergy daw kasi yun.. kaya multivitamins lang siya..
