do we have that here in the philippines? in the US kasi its normal for a married couple to go thru marriage counselling. e dito baka pag nagpunta ka sa ganun kung meron man, ang sabihin pa sayo ang arte arte mo.

but then since im married, im sure im ok to go thru that if my marriage is on the rocks and if we both feel we can still save it, not just for our baby's sake. i think that's the common mistake married couples make, they stay in the marriage for the child's sake. hindi naman yung anak mo ang pinakasalan mo diba? but your husband or your wife. think of it this way,  as a mom or dad, would you be ok to stay in your marriage for the sake of your child EVEN IF your child always sees you both fighting.... imagine the trauma you're putting the child in.

In my case, it really helps. It saved my marriage.  ;D

I mean, yong time na totally give up na yong hubby ko, ako lang yong nag-ka-counselling.  Although mas okay if both of you will participate, okay lang din ikaw mag-isa (just like me) if in case, ayaw ng partner mo.

The session gave me hope and strength. They told me stories ng mga couples na nagkabalikan who were in worst situation than us. They also taught me how to act around my hubby in everything during those crucial times.  :P

Hi sis may i know kung saan ka nag papa counsel ang mahal ba to. please giv me idea how much ang gastos... i think parang need ko na din mag pa counsel if not maloloka na ko... thanks

i offered my husband na mag undergo kami ng counseling, naku! super tanggi. ayun nauwi tuloy sa wala...pero i'm planning to undergo one for myself - just to get back in my old shape, malapit na din ako mag breakdown. hayz

I think ang mga free sessions are usually the ones that are affiliated with religions. They have fellowship, and you can find conselors from there. But the professional ones...not sure if we hav a lot in the country.

Mommy Fe, can you also PM me on the Retrouvaille Program...Thanks!
I've read about this na in the net a few years back...

Dear Angelita, Longing and other mommies wanting to improve the state of their marriages,

A Retrouvaille Weekend was just completed last June 13 and last Saturday June 19, they attended their first Post-Weekend session as follow up program to the Weekend.

There will be another Retrouvaille Weekend on July 30 to August 1, 2010 at the SAIDI Formation Center, Taktak Road, Antipolo City.

I could send you a Information Sheet on RETROUVAILLE, but I don't know how to PM a file attachment.  If you will PM me your email address, then I could use my yahoo.com email address to send you the Information Sheet and the Registration Form (with Sketch/Map to the venue).

Estimated cost to participate in the program (one live-in weekend plus 6 Sunday afternoons) is P5,000 per couple, but no couple wanting to participate will be turned away due to financial incapacity, though a donation would be appreciated, to cover:
- board (meals and snacks) of 2-day dinners/breakfasts/lunches and 2-day AM/PM snacks
- lodging for 2 nights, one "electric fanned" room with 2 separate beds, ensuite T/B at the Antipolo venue, bring your own toiletries and towel
- handout materials during the weekend and the 6 Sunday afternoon sessions
- rental of the session venue
If you would just like information on the program, you could visit www.retrouvaille.org where the Retrouvaille Weekend and follow-up programs schedules in the Philippines are also listed.

I attest that the Retrouvaille program does help couples.  It has helped my husband and me, and we continue to participate in Retrouvaille activities to ensure that we sustain the improvement in our relationship.  We are on the road of forgiveness, making amends and healing.  The journey is uphill and difficult, but at least we are traveling that road.  In deep gratitude for the benefits we get from participating in the Retrouvaille program, we have volunteered to promote Retrouvaille in various platforms - in the internet, in printed materials, etc.  The Retrouvaille program in the Philippines is run under the Catholic Church but we respect the religious preferences of our couple participants, and we don't compel them to convert to the Catholic faith.

My take on this... marital counselling helps.
BUT BEFORE you go into that... get counselling for yourself.
As in, you must be very clear about your issues, and how far you will go and how much more you can take.  And be very clear about what you can do or will do if your minimum expectations/desired changes are not met.
Best to go into "battle" with plans and clear thinking.    Mahirap mabulaga or to feel further diminished because you are not clear about  your objectives.

Another reason why I espouse self counselling first is because.. IMO, it is easier to change one's self, to work on one's self.. than to expect another person to change.  A person changes only when she/he wants to..   But as for one's self.. you can do a lot, once you decide.

Now, it is best to go sort yourself out with someone competent AND non-judgmental.   Do not go to someone and it becomes a case of "the blind leading the blind."

FEGLORIA1954 .. if anyone here wants to join that Retrouvaille Weekend (I have heard about it from a BFF and a cousin who both went through it... 1 couple decided to separate shortly thereafter) --  and needs a contribution for that... please PM me.
Part of my advocacy centers on helping women know themselves better, see their issues more clearly.  It is a fact that  even some brilliant women find it hard to think through their issues clearly when saddled with a heartbreak  or chronic disappointment.
No need to reveal identities...   we can all continue our advocacies in anonymity.  So there, FEGLORIA 1954  -- PM me,, whenever.  God bless.

Dear aquacharly,

The program - any program for that matter - will work only to the extent that the individuals comprising the couple relationship will work the program into their lives.

Attending the weekend does not guarantee a miracle.  There is a need for deciding - on a daily basis - to commit to the marriage, to love one's spouse, to forgive one's spouse and oneself, and to trust in one's spouse and the marriage.

i just want to share this from a blog i read.

                           A Standers Affirmation

I AM STANDING FOR THE HEALING OF MY MARRIAGE!... I will not give up, give in, give out or give over 'til that healing takes place. I made a vow, I said the words, I gave the pledge, I gave a ring, I took a ring, I gave myself, I trusted GOD, and said the words, and meant the words... in sickness and in health, in sorrow and in joy, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in good times and in bad...so I am standing NOW, and will not sit down, let down, slow down, calm down, fall down, look down or be down 'til the breakdown is torn down!

I refuse to put my eyes on outward circumstances, or listen to prophets of doom, or buy into what is trendy, worldly, popular, convenient, easy, quick, thrifty, or advantageous... nor will I settle for a cheap imitation of God's real thing, nor will I seek to lower God's standard, twist God's will, rewrite God's word, violate God's covenant, or accept what God hates, namely divorce!

In a world of filth, I will stay pure; surrounded by lies I will speak the truth; where hopelessness abounds, I will hope in God: where revenge is easier, I will bless instead of curse; and where the odds are stacked against me, I will trust in God's faithfulness.

I am a STANDER, and I will not acquiesce, compromise, quarrel or quit.. I have made the choice, set my face, entered the race, believed the Word, and trusted God for all the outcome.

I will allow neither the reaction of my spouse, nor the urging of my friends, nor the advice of my loved ones, nor economic hardship, nor the prompting of the devil to make me let up, slow up, blow up, or give up 'til my marriage is healed.
