generally it depends sa chords. you should watch out for the strings na hindi dapat tamaan. if you use the typical D Chord on the second fret, hind dapat matatamaan ang 5th string (A) and the 6th String (low E). Pero pag nakasulat na D/A that means you should include the 5th string kasi A siya. Pero pag D/F# then you should fret the 2nd fret of the Low E string and include that note (F#) in your strumming while muting the A string with the sides of one of your fingers. ang tawag po sa mga ganito ay Broken Chords.

On the other hand,if you play an F Bar chord on the first fret, then you should strum all the strings. Strumming should depend on the song sis. pakinggan mo sis yung high and low strings, kung alin ang mauna...dun mo malalaman yung strumming pattern.

hi sisses, im a lefty and i do know a bit on how to play  the guitar, but the biggest problem im having is i find it really hard to strum using my right hand.sobrang awkward ng feeling and i cant seem to move the way i want to..

i dunno sis,

when i started out, my hands felt like jello. panay sabit pa. then i practiced chord progressions. I'd write a few chord progressions on paper....then practice strumming, palit palit....hanggang swabe...

though our program sa Guitar club sa school noon eh medyo malalim. pano naman kasi, kasikatan ng rock (early 90s) tapos mga 100 consistent members. we were divided into two, beginner and intermediate/advanced. napunta ako sa beginner and we were given chord progression exercises most of the time and we drilled by our teacher.

sometimes kasi yung pang rock na strums or yung simple pero mabilis dapat ang strum is really difficult for me. yeah sigurp nga practice lang talaga dapat..

yup sis. practice lang. when i started out, i had no guitar. My parents wouldn't buy me one. Inisip nila na na fad lang yun na ma out grow ko lang daw. sayang lang daw ang gitara...ngerk.

good thing i have a real close friend na nagdadala ng guitar sa school. (minsan 2 pa nga eh. good bless him for his kindness) sa school ako nagprapractice during mornings, recess, lunch and dismissal. -trust me sis, with the batch laughing at you and discouraging you from learning---hindi maganda ang feeling.

2 years later. things changed.

so constancy of aim and effort lang sis. and always go out of your comfort zone when practicing.

I am a lefty and i play the guitar like Hendrix, as in baliktad talaga yung strings, si BB King yung binaliktad lang yung guitar.

anyway, i haven't played in years but lately, i feel the need for an artistic/ creative outlet and I've been contemplating on buying a new guitar, i dunno where to start kasi dati Lumanog classic guitar lang ako, I was a teenager then and it was my dad who bought it for me, nasira and ayun, wala na, i also want to learn the bass (I am inspired by Jaco Pastorius) although i know i'll never be that good.

Iniisip ko Telecaster, pero wala akong alam what guitar will suit me the way i play...

sis, pagdating talaga sa ganyan, you really have to try different electric guitar models and see what fits your needs. Telecaster ba, or Stratocaster, or Les Paul, or so...

kahit same model eh, may pinagkakaiba pa din: neck shapes, wood, fretboard material, pickup type and configuration, weight, scale length, finish etc. all of these contribute to the over all sound of the guitar.

May mga tao na prefer nila ang single coils, compared to humbuckers. I have a friend na Tele lang talaga gusto niya. Ako, Les Paul ang trip ko. Si Telekikay, Ibanez.

But there are versatile guitars naman na kaya manggaya ng tunog ng ibang electric guitars. maganda nga eto at hindi mo na kailangan masyado mag switch ng guitars just to get a specific sound.

Sis you have to ask Telekikay on that matter. I know he frequents Audiophile and perfect pitch.

yung dalawang electric ko kasi, sa US ko binili dahil noong araw, madalas ako pumupunta doon.mas may variety talaga doon. and of course, since lagi ako napupunta doon, parang sininggit ko lang ba. so mas nakamura ako. Bought my American Standard Strat noong 1996 for only 400+ dollars at 1:27 exchange rate. ang selling price ata noon sa ganung guitar sa phils is, more or less 30k. Now a brand new Am. Std is 80k ata last i heard.

noong time na masipag sipag ako eh, medyo masusungit at bastos ang mga nasa music stores natin. kaya turn off talaga ako noon. kaya hindi talaga ako desidido bumili ng guitar sa phils noon. sabi nila medyo nag change na daw. and i've met wonderful sales assistants bago ako nag ibang bansa. sa US kasi, kahit 8 thousand dollar guitar, pag gusto mong itest, mahahawakan mo.

sa guitar forum ng philmusic.com maraming nagbebenta ng 2nd hand.

btw, meron tayong magaling na gumagawa ng electric guitar ha. Pinoy na pinoy. world class ang gawa. Elegee ang brand. maganda yung mga Paul Reed Smith copies niya ha. nasa philmusic.com din siya.

in regards to rastagurl11 query, ok naman sa audiophile. alam ko pwede ka mag ask ng discount if yun item is 5k and above.  theyll give about 10% off the retail price.  audiophile carries ibanez and peavey  brand yata...not sure ha kasi ibanez lang tinitingnan ko madalas. you can check their website http://www.audiophile.ph/web/

isang alternative mo is yupangco/yamaha/perfect pitch...malapit na handog sale nila, siguro around october. madaming naka sale na gitara dun.

i suggest you get a decent guitar. make it an investment kasi as you go along your taste will change and you will look for a guitar with better feel and better tone. try mo muna, iba ibang gitara, iba ibang feel at tunog.  hanap ka saan ka comfortable.  goodluck.

@telekikay and akthung-thanks for the tips, i better try yupangco kasi dun ko dati nakita yung Fender Strat na left handed, that was 15 yrs ago nga lang at Php15000.00, sana pinabili ko na nun sa erpat ko hihi  I hope i can find a decent one that I will love and enjoy soon.

sis, itest mo lahat ng nasa price range ng budget mo, may mga dead sounding guitars kasi. para sa akin okay na hindi ko type ang kulay, basta maganda tunog. check for sustain and harmonics.

mas madali imodify, upgrade ang vintage style fenders (reissues) compared to american standard/series version.looking back, sana hindi na lang ako nag american standard strat. iba kasi ang neck radius nun, string spacing and tremolo system (slightly lang--bridge posts and saddles on 90s Am Stds.)

Good buy yung sa iyo bro.imho any Am std/series in the last 5 or so years.

the recent am stds/series are FAR better than those in the late 80s and 90s bro. wala na silang "swimming pool" pick up cavity, die cast saddles, thick finish, flat pick up pole pieces, etc...basically they are way way way better bro.

ang naiwan na lang na trademark from the am std series of yesterday is pareho pa din yung string spacing, fretboard radius and 2 point  tremolo system.

yes it makes me gripe.  kasi 90s yung kain. (pero makavintage din kasi ako)

but hey, David Aguirre's early 90s Am Std sounded good

Piano and most especially violin!!!

Piano, I can play a little, but violin as in ZERO pa! I don't intend naman to be really good in playing these instruments, but I intend to be able to play (beautifully or at least katanggap-tanggap. Hehe..) my favorite musical pieces on both instruments.

Hay, I really have to do something with re to my time. Dami ko kasing dapat gawin at gustong gawin at gustong matutunan. Kaya iniisa-isa ko. Hayz.. To think na may tito akong professor ng violin sa UP Diliman, may isa rin akong tita na nagtuturo rin ng violin sa St. Scho at may isang side ng clan namin na halos lahat ng pinsan ko marunong mag-violin kahit bata. Napakalapit ng opportunities to learn. As in tuwing reunions, tumutugtog sila na parang mini-"orchestra" while yung side namin either dance or drama 'este' comedy show pala ang ginagawa. Sabi nga namin sila yung "cultured" side of the family while kami naman yung jologs. Hehe!
