i agree, show us some of those pics sis aquacharly. :)

Sis CHUBS & ANGELIEGH -- what pics do you want to see?
PM me your email -- create a new email add -- will send these to you.

Darlings!  mahirap mag post ng pics for the general public -- kasi well,  ma 1+1 ako dito ha -- sometimes kasi for certain reasons, it may not be prudent to nail down one's identity.

Basta enjoy tayo dito sharing, okay na yon.

Glad to have been of some help, kasi with other matters -- I have been helped in this forum.

God bless!

yang pagiging OC ba nadedevelop or sadyang ganyan since birth?  ;D :D ;D

KAIZ!  you are so cute!

IMO -- na develop, by the demands of the roles I choose to live out.

May tawag sa mga katulad ko --   depende kung mahal ako or bw*sit sa akin --
masipag, masinop, achiever, over-reaching, OC (derogatively said or fondly used -- either way  :)), organized/orderly,  maayos ang pamumuhay, OA, arte, stricto,  may ADD, ambisyosa, etc  --  LOL

Wala akong pakialam basta I manage my home per my family's preferences, and to the best of my ability. Peace!

Nga pala, mga Sis -- being OC or efficient in home management does not mean hindi ako makalat.  Like CHUBS -- makalat ako when I cook (I do 3-5 dishes at a time kasi, to maximize time)  BUT mabilis ako magpaligpit ng kalat.  Yan lang secret to an orderly home -- mabilis ka mag ayos or mag return to where things belong.  Or, clean as you go sabi nila.   :)

Ako kasi I have too much clutter.  I have so much paper stuff (old bills/kids' reviewers/unfinished art projects/etc) on my desk.  I know I don't need all these stuff and I've actually shredded old bills already, but still, no luck with the clutter.  I guess I need more storage space???  My kids' toys are everywhere.  I know I have to give away a lot to make room for new ones this Christmas.

We've yet to build our own house but as early as now, my husband says he's sure our house will be full of clutter too.  **sigh**  I've requested a separate room for my arts/crafts because this hobby is one major source of clutter.

Maybe the frustration stems from the fact that the place we call home is small, hence the lack of space for all our things.  We've moved to my parents' (bigger) house which was very neat and tidy before we moved in, and well, now it seriously looks like a warehouse/bodega. :-\

^sis, so the problem is not really about the space =)

sis, Iam no organizing expert here, but just wanna share some helpful tips i learned along the way

with regards to paper tamming, there are important papers that you need to keep, like old bills (for the last 2 years, just for future reference), proof of purchases, warranty receipts (that you might need tin the future) you can keep these impt. papers in a file, then in a storage box, (since limited lang ang space nyo), for super old but impt. papers, just shred it and sell it to the junkshops by the kilo, o edi kumita ka pa!,

for unimportant papers like kid's reviewers (seriously, you're keeping those? ??? LOL) maybe you can still use the back page for scratch perhaps? just bind it with a paper fastener and you've got an instant memo pad..... naka tulong ka pa sa environment!

with kid's toys, I believe that you know you've got to give it away, kid's toys are really one of the major source of clutter, so maybe you can limit 1 storage box per kid, (I know ba-bargain sila  :D but tell them saka na sila mag 2 or more storage boxes, if you have bigger space na)kung ano lang yung pinaka gusto nila and yung magkakasya lang in that box ang itatago, the rest, give it away.... december is fast approaching, it's the best time to sort out these toys and schedule a trip to an orphanage with your kids, then pamigay nyo yung mga old toys, your kids will learn the joy of giving pa (ask them old toys or new toys?  ;D)... if you have no time naman, bigay mo nalang sa jollibee, dba they accept toys every christmas to give to less fortunate ones  :)

it's not really about the space, believe me, been there done that!  ;D just keep your things to a minimum, if may ipapasok na new thing, kailangan maglabas din muna ng old thing, wag maging packrat ika nga, then learn to maximize storage space and practice discipline, sama mo narin kids mo, it'll be fun doing these things altogether, bonding moment nyo pa, ;)

and lastly, internet is a great source of handful tips about organizing, look it up, dami mo makikitang organizing tips, that can help you to be clutter free!!!

Sis kaya mo yan!
Just focus on what activities you want to happen in your home.  And what your preferences are.
Do not be a Martha Stewart -- na parang may Bible sinusundan vis-a-vis home management.   :)  Truthfully, Sis 1CHOI_KO9 -- can 1 woman have soooo much time for so much ka-artehan?

Do not strive for orderliness per se -- but go for your brand of "live-ablility" kasi it is your unique life that your home should cater to di ba?
Kahit na minimalist or maximalist  your house -- basta type mo ganoong pamumuhay -- you can find a way to impose order on it all.

Remember, your house should serve you and your family; not you slaving for your home and possessions.
(Kaya kung ako pa mag polish the silver flatware -- hwag na, give away na lang -- mag chopsticks na lang ako.  LOL)

KISS nga, Sis    :D

wow, nakaka inspire!

^thanks sis chubs!  Actually, been doing some of those things already, like making memo pads out of scratch papers, giving away toys, etc.  But maybe I just have too much stuff talaga ;D.

Well, things will hopefully get better when we get a bigger place.

I'm learning a lot of things from you girls, so keep 'em coming. :)

thanks for all the tips here!

May I butt in?  Sis MIGMAXMATT  -- a bigger space will not be the answer.  Big or small, it is how organized you are that will spell the difference between a stressful home and a sanctuary.

I hate to reiterate again, but -- function must always be the first consideration.   Keep things where you use them;  use spaces per your family's unique lifestyle.

In your next new home --  carve and reserve a space dedicated solely for your crafts.   Organize it the way YOU find it convenient FOR YOU -- and you will see, you will be more productive, and nobody will complain about anything being messy.  The same goes for your dear kids'  toys.  Reserve a space or room dedicated to their play where they can get as creative and  expansive as they want.  BUT  simultaneously train them, or train your yaya to help them,  to put away their things after use.  It is never too early to impress upon children that finding things easily WHEN  you need/want it is an important part of leading an orderly, less stressful life.   So, things must have a permanent place, and must always "return home".

Your husband is right. Sorry.  But possessions expand to fill up space.  Even if you move to Malacanang Palace,  you will soon find yourself as cluttered.   But if you will designate a permanent place for your stuff -- you will gain control over your home.

Sis,  do not think I got born organized; or that I learned it overnight.  No way.  It took a couple of years and occasions of hair-pulling with matching regretful wails when I couldn't locate misplaced important documents.  After a batch of  stock certificates that cost me P20thou to have replaced  (and 7 months to receive) -- I worked organizing my home completely.    (Dati kasi partly organized pa lang,  partly OC palang -- LOL).

OC? yung mom ng friend ko. Sa sobrang OC nag ka parkinson's disease na yata. Napaka organize at sa luto grabe. Yung rags nila parang laging bago.

Yung crabs nga ini scrub nya isa isa at madumi daw yun. Sa chicken din halos wala ng kulay sa ka huhugas. May sakit ba na yung parang galit sa germs???? Pati yung shrimps? may ini alis sya sa likod non at kadiri daw yun. Grabe talaga. Nagrereklamo na nga mga apo nya e. Wala daw lasa yung food nila.

Nakakahiya nga pumasok sa bahay nila at spotless talaga. Yung kasambahay nila, harassed  na. Pati sya linis ng linis kahit may maids. Yung mga curvings ng furniture walang alikabok. Promise.

Nagpagawa pa ng mas malaking bahay. May mirror na nilagay don sa ibaba ng mga hanging cabinets. Pinatanggal nya at pinunasan nya talaga bago pinakabit ulit. Grabeeeee!!!! Habang nag di drill dala nya talaga yung vacuum para yun dust nga naman.

^Thanks aquacharly... I guess the first step to being more organized is for me to admit that I do have too much clutter.  I hate looking for an important piece of paper knowing I have kept it somewhere "safe" (too safe, I totally forgot where it is! :-\).

I also have a habit of buying clothes for my kids one size bigger than their actual size so I end up having piles of new clothes that I have to keep until they're big enough for them.  Unfortunately, I sometimes forget about them too and then find out too late that the clothes don't fit them anymore   :-\.

Oh well, at least I am starting to identify my problems now.  Thanks everybody!  I really look forward to a more organized house (and self) from now on.

Oh, this is a nice thread ! I enjoyed reading all your posts, keep'em coming!

I dont know the exact definition of OC...but my mom has always been called that. I grew up in super clean and neat surroundings..but I wouldnt call myself a "born OC"...but maybe someone, who has adapted family practices and norms.

Nung bata ako, I was not neat at all...but when I got married and started to live independently, nakuha ko din yung traits ng mom ko.

The way I see it...I keep things organized and neat..if only to make life easier for me. It saves me time and energy when I know that I am on top of things. I'm a SAHM without a maid  (I live in a condo)...so people in my household (my son and hubby) rely on me most of the time.

Add to the fact that I HATE clutter. For me, a cluttered house contributes to a cluttered mind. Nahihilo ako! But I'm also madaya kasi most of the time, I keep all the messy things I see inside my drawers and closets...ergo, my drawers are a mess! Ayoko lang sila makita, ha-ha!

HONEYBUNNY --  My system works for me, coz I do not mistake the trees for the forest.

I SYSTEMATIZE(d)  my home management so that
           My family ENJOYS our sanctuary 24/7;
And so that I spend soooo little time on it --  so that I have all the time to do the things that NOBODY else can do/do best for my kids, my husband and myself.

My home management and standards do NOT stress me out at all coz aside from the systems in place -- eh, these REFLECT the way my family PREFERS to live and CAN live.    Ma-stress out lang talaga ako IF I force a lifestyle on myself/family that belongs to somebody or illusyon ko lang.  LOL

I do not sweat it out nor stress over it all --
Otherwise, hindi ko talaga gagawin, I will "let it slide".
Kasi I am not confused -- ako ang senyora, not the helpers.
Pwes, trabaho nila yan so sila mag sweat out;
and ako set the standards they must meet, so sila ang ma-stress out.
Atchaka, HONEYBUNNY -- ako nga nagpapapasweldo; so  ka-t*anga ko naman kung ako pa ang mag sweat it out or allow them to stress me out di ba; or kung sila ang masusunod sa bahay ko.  Ano, "sineswerte" sila?  :)

HONEYBUNNY,  IMO -- one has a choice whether to get stressed out or not.

Que zero, 1 or 20 ang helpers mo -- if you will just get uptight or stressed out or burned out in maintaining a house -- naku, IMO let it slide -- hwag mo gawin.

BUT que zero, 1 or 20 ang helpers mo -- you can systematize it all IF you do the following:
                             Keep it simple, S.......
Strive to deliver MINIMUM specs/requirements only
Do not doubt yourself, your family's preference and
achievable standards -- whatever else anybody
                                 says, dapat wala kang kapakipakipakipakipaki.

HONEYBUNNY, I do NOT LET  a new maid stress me out.
I am not confused nga eh, ako ang senyora.   :)
Actually, the outgoing maid trains the incoming maid.
I do not mind paying the overlapping/doble salary for 1 position basta i have time for Bloomberg pa rin.  I just check after the outgoing tells me na break-in na and alam na ni incoming.

Atchaka, HONEYBUNNY -- I hire only maids with "relevant experience", at least 2 years working in a house in a village similar to my house and village.  That way,  she has an idea of "where I am coming from".

For example,  if your work experience says:  Actual work:  Cleaner;  Ambition: Cook.  Eh hire kita as a Cleaner, no promise of promotion to Cook position.  Pero puede kitang pag-aralin, go to cooking lessons.  PERO -- never ka puede mag experiment on my family, not even my pets.  Ano sya, "sineswerte"?!

Also, HONEYBUNNY -- my policy is to always pay more than the general going-rate.  IMO, I get better-quality helpers that way.  Tapos, pag nagka "added-value" na sila after working for some time in my household, hindi sila prone to "piracy.".

Remember:  Life is too short to slave on a house and possessions.

Remember more:   Do not get confused, ikaw ang senyora -- whether
you have zero, 1 or 20 helpers...  So do not get
stressed out because of a house.

Ang dapat lang maka stress-out sa atin are our kids
and husbands (but that is another OT story).

Enjoy life! -- yan,  dapat dyan tayo "OC".

God bless.  :)

^ sis aquacharly i just have to say.... sumakit ang bangs ko sa unang post mo pa lang!  ;D i had to look at your profile to see how old you are. kasi feeling ko older ka sa akin... ok i thought matrona... sa sobrang organized ng bahay / buhay mo. mas nagulat ako na 26 years old ka lang.  :D i'm almost 10 years older pala!  ;D

seriously, i can't imagine how much time you spent on making your manuals, taking pics and posting them where they should be posted or keeping them where they should be kept. parang sobrang complicated yung system mo and yet you seem to have a lot of time in your hands, to think na nagma-manage ka pa ng business nyo. to think na ni hindi ko matapos yung isang scrapbook naming mag-asawa.  :P

if you don't mind me asking, may kids ba kayo and how old na? also, how many stay-in maids do you have?

ako kasi i have a 10-month old son and 1 yaya. the main function of the yaya is really to attend to my kid and do "some" housework. pero she doesn't cook (doesn't know how) and she doesn't really clean... walis-walis lang and cleaning ng toilet (which most of the time i repeat pag naliligo na ako and i'm not pleased with how she cleaned).

overall, i don't expect much from her basta she attends to my kid well. night-shift kasi kami ng husband ko and most of the day we're asleep. so i find it doubly hard to tend the house dahil working at night is no joke. personally, i need at least 8 hours of sleep. masama pa nga loob ko nun.

when i was working at daytime (before i transferred), i get home at around 6pm. i would still do some things around the house or cook until 12 midnite. yun yung time na medyo mas organized pa yung bahay ko. pero ngayon, i really have to let a lot of things slide na lang kasi i don't have the energy to work on them anymore.

i also believe i have have a lot of stuff. paper most especially. kahit ang dami ko ng na-shred, na-benta, na-recycle. ewan ko ba!

clothes, dami ko na pinamigay o pinabenta. pero punong-puno pa din aparador namin. yung built-in closet pina-solo ko na sa husband ko kasi suuuuuper overflowing na mga damit nya. too overflowing na nanghihiram na lang ako sa kanya ng t-shirt instead of buying my own!  ;D

isa pang umaapaw sa bahay namin are my bags and our shoes. hindi ko talaga ma-solusyunan ito. to think na ang dami ko ng pinamigay!

pag sinabit ko yung bags ko sa mga bag holder... inaalikabok naman. same with the shoes. pag nilagay naman sa boxes yung shoes... ayun nakakalimutan na, lalo kung nasa labas ng kwarto itatago.

the room supposed to be for my son, naging parang bodega na. nandun yung bedlinens, curtains, baby carrier and other baby stuff na kinalakihan na nya, inflatable swimming pool, exerciser... honestly, wala naman ibang paglalagyan. so ano ang gagawin ko dun para hindi maging cluttered yung kwarto? wala naman kaming bodega.

pag nakaka-kita nga ako ng hotels or house make-over shows espousing minimalism... i ask my husband kung paano ko gagawing ganun yung bahay namin. his simple answer is malabo daw magawa ko yun!

wala na nga akong figurines at iba pang dust gatherers na naka-display ha!

also, cooking 1 meal a day takes me almost 2 hours, prep and cooking time. ikaw you cook 3-5 meals... parang gusto ko himatayin.  ;D

You want to know the secret of my organization skills?
It has nothing to do with age, nor money.

To answer your queries:
I have now a household of 6 helpers and 2 drivers.
A poolboy who comes 3x a week;
7-8 gardeners who come every 3 weeks, to maintain the gardens inside bakod and outside also;
a male office  messenger who takes care of changing bulbs, heavy lifting, etc kung ano hindi magawa ng maids dito sa bahay.
Of course, we are in construction -- so any maintenance is a matter of my secretary scheduling what needs to be done or cleaned.
I have regular quarterly/semi-annual maintenance service of my appliances, house equipment, chandeliers, baby grand piano -- that my secretary schedules.  I believe in preventive maintenance.

I even contract out the dressing up of my tree.  A team comes to put it up, light it up and put all my decor on it. (Ako naman ang nag choose ng decor).  I now have a 12 foot tree, and I am not gonna risk falling off a ladder.  I better spend my time watching Bloomberg.  :)

I will not apologize -- my house is big, per my husband's preference.
Mukha lang madami akong intindihin at nagagawa kasi nga, my house needs are more complicated due to size.

I do not like to do laundry, cooking, cleaning, whatever.  So what I can delegate, I do.  But I am good at business, so doon ako concentrated.  Kanya kanya kasing skills sa buhay -- do what you do best, IMO.
But I love to organize and do interior decoration -- these de-stress me.

BUT -- I can do all those things I do not like to do --  kaya hindi rin ako takot mawalan ng maid; at hindi ako puedeng lokohin ng maid.  My mom trained me well in that aspect.  The blind cannot lead the blind, so pano mo mapagawa ng mahusay sa katulong if clueless ka di ba.

One thing I am sure of --  I make happen the way my family likes to live, at kaya namin (no apologies again, hindi kami nangungurakot/corrupt).
We like, we can afford - so be it.  I do not try to live beyond my means.

My husband has embraced my preference -- that we live 24/7 in a 5-star hotel.  Now, RASPBERRY do not get the wrong picture.
"24/7"  just means que may visitor or wala, my house is clean and everything in place like all the time.  Of course, nothing is perfect.  But technically, it is ALL THE TIME.

" 5-star"  means that everything is functional.  Ang 5-star hotel -- wala extraneous, unnecessary details yan.  Every place has a purpose/use; and decorations are very minimal.  Things are of quality materials because they are meant to last for a couple of years --  disruptive kasi to now and then have to change/repair.
Now a 7-star hotel -- yan opulence, extravagance, unnecessary details -- iba yan.  that is not us.

RASPBERRYGLACE04, the real secret of my good organization skills at home and at the office?   --  malimutin ako, in bold letters.    As in noong bata ako, my mother would say ang hindi ko lang makakalimutan ever eh ang panty ko -- yun lang akala nya.  Nakalimutan ko na rin mag panty several times.  LOL

Now, believe me --- Fear is a great motivator.
I am afraid to forget what I should do, or where I put away stuff.
Crisis ko when I was even in my pre-teens, hindi ko mahanap my assignment kasi nakalimutan ko saan ko tinabi.  Ganoon ka grabe.  So there -- my biggest secret is out in the open.

Pero hindi naman ako ganoon ka hopeless like a BFF of mine, nakalimutan nya her 2-week old baby in the dressing room at Neiman Marcus.  Nakalabas na sya, tanong ng husband nya:  where is the baby?  LOL

The next thing I accepted in life from the start is -- we are generally creatures of habit.  People just cannot change overnight, even if their lives depended on it.  So, I organize around that.  Change comes gradually, sometimes years.  Ex:  my husband used to get out of the shower stall dripping wet.  Yuck!  Parang wet market.  Hindi ko inaway, I just bought  super big rugs -- 2 to get him from the shower stall to the sink. Now, he dries himself before getting out.  Hindi na sanay feeling wet tiles underfoot.  :)

The 3rd principle  underlying my organization -- that classic management mantra:  KISS ("Keep it simple, Stupid.)  The simpler a rule/habit is -- the better for implementation and staying power.
Madali maintintindihan ng helper what you expect, how you want it done and when.  No dispute, wala nang batbatan.  Saves you a lot of wear and tear.  I never assume na "gets" ako at the start.

The 4th Principle --  control what you can, and do not bust yourself over the uncontrollables.   Life will always pull surprises on you.  If you take care of what you can, or better -- delegate -- you will be able to deal with surprises better.
My cook is good, kasundong kasundo ng husband ko.
But semplang sya when it comes to the pasta sauces my kids and I like. Do not ask me why.  So I have my 1st Cleaner watch me when I cook -- natuto, may interes.  Now, she is able to prep the ingredients for me.

Also RASPBERRY -- I do not cook everyday,  ayaw ko.
But when I feel like cooking -- I do it like the way I do the rest of what I do in the office -- multitasking.  Hindi ako tatayo prepping the ingredients.  The cook and cleaner can do that for me -- may recipes naman eh.  Hindi rin ako tatayo just waiting for 1 or 2 dishes to be cooked, I am not a patient person kaya hindi ako nag ambition maging security guard.
Saturdays, for 2-3 hours,  I go cook when all is prepped for say 3 pasta sauces,  beef kaldereta, bulgogi, etc.  At the same time,  I marinate myself and have stored in the chiller chicken teriyaki, Rosemary chicken (for roasting in 2 days), beef tapa.   When I cook, 5 dishes are on my Smeg hob -- it is the smallest professional hob.  Kaya kahit 5 pots kaya tumayo sabay.  I use 3 timers -- and post on my nearby magnetic board which is to be done when , para ako mismo hindi malito.  When the alarms go off -- and I am watching Bloomberg or playing with the kids -- the cook calls me.

Now, RASPBERRY -- what I cook or marinate,  I double it.  As in -- freezer half of it all.  That way,  in 2 weeks, makikita ko na naman that ulam, pero hindi ako umulit nang pagluto. Now, I accept my current limitation that my ulam blueprijnt repeats in 2 weeks. For some better at it,  talagang walang ulitan ng ulam in 30 days.  Wala ako ganoon expertise/illusion -- so I let that part slide. Nobody is perfect, there is no such thing as a perfect life.  But life can always be better -- yan mantra ko.

Now, yang pang luto at breakfast ng tapa na marinate ko -- teka,  kaya na yan ni cook.  RASPBERRY, what I can delegate nga I do -- you just have to cultivate other people's confidence.

PERO -- watch out for the Peter Principle -- people get promoted to their level of incompetence. So dapat alam mo kung hanggang saan lang puede umasa at mag delegate nang whatever.

The 5th Principle -- which I think is the most important -- be true to  yourself and to your family.  How do you and your family want to live your life?  That is the aspiration di ba. Now, kaya ba?  If you will try to live someone else's life, not yours,  believe me -- you will always be frustrated, bitter and eventually, expose yourself as a fraud.

It is effortless for me now to manage my home coz well, nag invest na ako nang time in coming out with my manuals.
Teka, ha RASPBERRY -- these are KISS manuals. May pictures lang kasi mas madali pakita sa helper your expectations, parang may codigo sila, kesa describe ko pa in prose -=- naku may English/dialect proficiency issue ka pa ryan.  :)

Sorry, but I see no big deal in coming out with personal home management manuals.  It is just a listing and pictures of what you want to see when you get home.  Gusto ko ganito, ako ang senyora -- tapos ang kwento.  Make it easy for them to follow and deliver what you want.

Now, kung ang iniisip eh nakakahiya or pretentious ang mag manual -- that is another issue altogether.  Naku ha, in this age of digicams and cell cameras -- may nakakabili pa ba ng hiya?!  LOL

Easy for me too to make a manual, hindi naman ito tulad ng office manuals ko or business manuals -- the fact that no legalese is involved -- eh these are just like simple kiddie story books.  Parang -  o sige, monkey read, monkey see, monkey do ha.  But I do not call them monkeys ha!  Mademanda ako pag ganyan.  My manuals are print outs from my laptop, dinikitan ng pics na print out din from my camera -- and then, lagay sa clear book.  Hindi ko linalagyan ng borloloy tulad ni Lucy Torres.
