i went to quiapo earlier today. (technically yesterday since it's already 2 am)

anyway, i bought 2 pairs of glasses.
one pair i bought from reshma.
i was doing my research on where to buy glasses in quiapo and it was the one that showed up.
anyway, they offer cheap nice looking frames. but the only thing is, yung optometrist nila is from a different shop.
bale bumili ako sa kanila tapos i was asked to pay deposit tapos may naghatid sa akin sa other store to have my eyes checked. (eventhough i said na i have my prescription na from an optical shop in sm)
what i didnt like is, yung pag check up super bilis lang natapos (parang 2 minutes lang tapos na). and he is the only opetometrist who said na may astigmatism daw ako. first time i had glasses was when i was 15, and through the years, i was never diagnosed as someone who had astigmatism.
nagulat ako nung sinabi nya yun sabi ko wala akong astigmatism and showed them my prescription.
kaya sabi ko yung prescription ko na lang yung gamitin. (this was from 3 days ago) they even insisted na para daw sa contacts yung prescription ko. (but i was told by the optometrist in sm na same lang naman daw yung grade for lens and glasses pag less than -3.00) they insisted na kaya daw iba kasi hindi daw tinake into account yung astigmatism dahil nga contacts. and i said meron naman contacts for astigmatism ah. but they just dismissed it.

tapos i went to another shop and bought another pair of glasses, tapos nag pa check ako ulit ng mata. this test took longer than the previous one. and i asked if i had astigmatism, wala na man daw.

so sorry to that optometrist in quiapo, i dont think he is that credible. hindi din yung name niya yung naka sabit dun sa wall ng shop nila. kasi babae naman yung nsa picture ng diploma and he is a guy.

i have no problems yung sa store mismo, kasi mabait naman yung may ari ng store. napilitan akong bumili kahit ayoko. hehe.
i suggest you get an eye exam from a reputable optometrist/opthalmologist before buying glasses in quiapo.

i had a very thorough eye exam sa sm megamall. first time ko yun to have a contact lens exam. hinde ko alam na may iba-ibang fit pa pala yun aside sa diameter and grade ng lens.
that was probably the longest eye exam i have undergone.

fyi pala. opthalmologist yung MD talaga. yung optometrist, doctor din pero not considered as MD. google google niyo na lang para sa difference. pero usually yung mga nag che-check ng mga mata sa mga optical shops, mga optometrists yun. yung opthalmologists, i guess may own clinics sila.

my friend also suggested to have my eyes checked sa eye institute sa trinoma. may opthalmologist talaga dun to check. kaso nga lang may kamahalan. nasa 1200 yata per checkup at hindi pa covered ng mga HMO.

^swerte ko naman sa quiapo at hindi pa ako naka experience ng ganyan. yung nai-post ko dito na opto okay naman. medyo matanda na pero sakto sa akin sukat niya.

siguro may opto na basta lang sukat. itong last na napuntahan ko kasi parang inaayos niya talaga, parang angle or yung mga axis yata yun. sa prescription kasi may numbers sa distance, at may number sa reading. iba din ang prescription niya sa akin for contacts, hindi ako bumili pero binigay pa din naman.

Feeling ko yun right eye ko dapat 75 lang. Medyo nahihilo ako eh. Pag pinapalitan ko kaya un lens ng isang full payment bayaran ko?

pa join..im not sure if i really need glasses na, but sometimes kasi nabo bother na ako na pag nagbabasa ako ng text messages [textspeak!] unang tingin ko is masakit sa mata, nakakaramdam ako ng biglang hilo at parang doble doble ang numbers sa paningin ko pero sandali lang naman yon then magke-clear din naman agad sya. shall i see ophtalmologist agad or opthometrist lang muna? any advice guys, thanks much

^^i agree, ophthalmologist ang konsultahin mo para malaman kung anong problema talaga sa mata mo. optometrist kasi sususkatan ka lang talaga ng salamin niyan.

ooh fyi,

my contact lens prescription included base curve and diameter.
base curve is the "fit" of the contacts.

before my contacts exam, i just thought the options for choosing lens was just diameter. mali pala ako. meron pa palang base curve.

Hindi ko na yata ka-mata yung glasses ko. I'm near sighted with astigmatism too. I only wear it when my eyes are tired na from being in front of my laptop for too long and if may hindi ako mabasa na medyo malayo.

^Same here Astigmatism lang naman saken so first few months I really wore my eyeglasses religiously. Kaso I felt na lalo lumalabo my vision, true enough ganon nga. Now, I dont wear it all the time. Just when I'm at work or whenever we go to the grocery.

hi sisters! i'm looking for a sunglasses-like na eyeglasses. tipong sunglasses yung size and shade pero may grado. may ganun ba? HAHA. mejo fail kasi kapag nagsusunglasses ako tapos malabo naman ang paningin ko. it's summer time na eh.

^ My prescription grade is not that high, can't remember my exact numbers.
I was charged USD145 for the Xtractive lens plus AR ($117) and UV ($20). 
Definitely a difference between regular Transitions and Xtractive.

^^Sis pwede ka naman magtry ng frames na babagay sa yo.  I am currently using the titanium frame para mas magaan.  Not sure kung saan ko ito nabili, around 2yrs ago pa yung frame but I think 4,000-5000 pesos ko sya nabili.  May mga discounts and sales naman, and dyan sa atin ang daming pagpipilian.

If you don't want to wear glasses, go for contacts.  Pero if I were you I would buy both.  Kase there is a limit kung gaano mo katagal isusuot ang contacts.  It's handy din to have a pair of glasses just incase.

I have astigmatism and can't live without my glasses.  Hindi naman masyadong mataas grado ng mata ko pero yung astigmatism ang kalaban ko.  If I don't wear glasses, after a few hours sasakit na ang ulo ko at mahihilo ako ng bongga.

@oshiawase, mag sukat-sukat ka sa bibilhan mo, may iba't-ibang shape naman ang frame, may babagay sa iyo dyan. titanium is good kasi pang matagalan. ako plastic lagi kong kinukuha kasi acidic ako, kumukupas yung kulay sa iba. and mahilig din kasi ako magpalit ng frame. may mga plastic frames na mura naman kaya di ako masyado nanghihinayang.

okay din may spare na contacts lalo pang special occasions na di ko type mag eyeglasses.

dito ba sa pinas e tinatawag ang optometrist na doctor ? ni search ko kasi to tapos sabi e depende daw sa country.. curious lang talaga ako... 

anyways, sana hindi ako naloko sa nakuha kon lens na airwear amounting to 7k.. lens alone lang yun hindi kasali ang frame.. nagbasa basa kasi ako sa thread at napa wow ako kasi yung iba e nasa 1 to 2k lang..

Question: Pag malayo ok pero pag malapit medyo hinde. Pero pag nagpapacheck ako ng eyes ok naman 20 20 something both. Pero bakit nahihirapan ako? medyo nahihilo pag malapit? Or psychological lang ba to ayaw ko siguro magbasa? hahaha
