The small laptop (Netbook) thread

hi guys, hope you can enlighten me.. I plan to buy a netbook, xmas gift ko sana for myself.  Question--  are they ok for photoshops?  mag digiscrapping kasi ako e, or should i buy a laptop talaga? thanks in advance!

hp mini note is the one im using ok naman siya the processor is not very good but i love the style.

I couldn't decide for the loooooooongest time!

In July, I bought an HP TX2105AU because of the "tablet".  When I have meetings outside, I scribble on whatever is the agreement/pending and have the other person "sign".  Voila -- instant "minutes" and hindi na puedeng atrasan ng kausap ko the basic agreement.  

But hindi ako mapakali kasi talagang I want a small laptop for picture sharing, net surfing, emails etc etc while on the go -- as in airports, lunches with friends and family, etc etc.  

So!  I finally got the new Lenovo basics-only black laptop (walang pink eh hindi na daw darating dito sa Phils. White lang alternative).  It fits easily into my Birkin     May built-in web cam pa.  And can make kabit a DVD player.    Test drive ko next weekend when we all go to Macau for the todos-patay break.  LOL.  

(For lunches when lots of pictures are literally put on the table -- bakit ba all matronas now carry laptops for pics sharing, di na talaga uso printed pics and albums --  I have this sexy red super-capacity external drive.  

But I try not to hyperventilate and experience the start of a panic attack coz it does only the simplest things.  The mantra is:  this is not work, this is not work -- it is only to pass the time. ...   LOL

@spnliz - matakaw sa memory photoshop, matakaw din yan sa CPU. For photoshop dont skimp on the hardware, get a laptop! May tendency na kapag tinipid mo sa hardware the colors won't match with the ones in print

@katie_21 - via C7. Pero uupgrade sya to via nano. Very low power consumption and yet good performance. The upcoming via nano trumps the intel atom. Hindi ma eenjoy ang processor ng hp mini pag naka Vista ka, the C7 talaga is used for very low power PC's. Saving grace kasi ng hp mini yung keyboard nya talaga..nata**a lang doon sa touchpad...

I would not suggest this for Photoshop... you need a more powerful hardware to run Photoshop smoothly.. and you need a bigger screen.. it would be difficult to edit pictures, layouts if you are using a small monitor/lcd screen.

^tama! yun pa nga lang hindi ako nag eedit hirap na ako gamitin ang netbook..well it's just me! kasi my mom is enjoying it naman, well for photos din pero she doesn't edit naman kasi.

MSI is ok except that for its specs (MSI Wind) parang masyado siya mahal.

well, you could always get the linux version...


oh, if anyone's interested, hp's planning to release a very chic netbook, the Vivienne Tam edition. no details on the specs yet, other than the fact that it'll be running Atom. looks very very nice, though.

Yesterday, hubby and I checked them out sa computer stores to really try and have a feel if okay nga sakin ang netbook (25 to 30k din naman kasi yun sayang naman if magsisi lang pala ako sa huli)

Okay lang sana yun hardware specs, sa desktop na lang sana ako mag photoshop.  pang basa ko na lang ng ebooks, play mp3s and surfing na lang sana BUT the monitor size bothered me.  Mukhang sasakit ang mata ko eventually and ulo! hahahaha, so I have decided na lang the medium sized laptops, yun mga 14 to 15 inch na monitor, almost same price lang naman ng netbook pero better ang HW specs. Excited na ko!!

^ i think tama yung decision mo to buy a laptop instead.... netbooks aren't really designed for work... its more on the leisure/entertainment aspect of computing.... so its more on internet surfing, sharing photos, watching movies, playing mp3s... eto yung mga dinadala sa starbuks trying to pass the time.. mga ganun... pero pag serious work stuff... parang di na sya pwede kahit excel lang hirap gamitin dyan for sure....

but you can hook up external monitor, keyboard and mouse... and parang may desktop ka na when you are at home.... im not just sure hows the resolution on the external monitor though....

^well, that does depend on what constitutes serious work for you. i write and edit for a living, and i can do those on a netbook.

I just bought an MSI wind a few weeks ago. Ngayon, I just installed a printer. When I was printing a photo file using Photoshop Elements, I can't view the whole print window! Ni hindi ko makita yung button na "print"! Ganun ba talaga pag maliit ang screen? Hindi ba pwedeng 'fit to screen'?! Hay...

^for applications i.e. photoshop, movie factory, etc. you can adjust the screen resolution.
(control panel > display > settings > screen resolution).

Just came from Best Buy earlier... so tempting to buy one!  I have an iPhone, a TX, and a Vaio...but still arrrghh!  Trying to rationalize that I need one since I'll be traveling a lot  and it would be much easier to carry one of these through tedious airport security.  Let's see what happens in December

I currently have the Asus EEE PC with 7inch screen and I find it really useful because I can bring it anywhere. I really want the new one though with 9inch screen because the small screen is really straining my eyes. Is the new one worth buying? Any reviews?
