My sister used to practice capoeira at UP Diliman. The instructor is Nathan Dominguez, he used to teach at Red Corner gym. It costs less than P200 per session. Around 2 hours per session.

For inquiries: capoeirajogador@yahoo.com

Hi allredndizzy! I've trained with sina Nate yung nasa red corner pa sila sa galle. Are they still training in UP? I thought that used to be the UP sports club or something :)

parang interested din ako dito. ano anong nawowork out nito? and what "skills" do you develop from this?

Hi pixiedust!
Whole body workout to!  :D I was discovering new muscle groups everytime hahaha.. skills I would say: flexibility, coodination, strength... but it's really more than just the physical stuff! Since it's done accompanied by music, you kind of get LSS with the catchy music and learn to sing. Eh yung songs naka Brazilian so you learn Brazilian Portugese din (o-ha, new language!). Tapos there are the instruments-- nuksh you learn how to play different percussion instruments.  May Samba, may acrobatics etc etc etc.  ;D
Sometimes I feel like I'm learning about the whole culture and not just the martial art.

Yes they're still training in UP and they also accept outsiders coz they charge naman. Mas mababa nga lang pag UP student ka. Yeah it's like a sports club.. more like an organization. I believe they're called "Sangkil Karasak," they practice Arnis but since Nathan got involved in Capoeira, he started teaching it as well.

??? Sangkil Karasak is the name of the sports group in UP? or yung sa Arnis? Yeah familiar with Nate's capoeira background  :P

Not very familiar pero ang alam ko, Sangkil Karasak is the name of the organization and it was meant for Arnis (no other sports) and then lately nga, since last year or so... Nate started teaching capoeira. My sister said by the time she left (last May), they already have plans on separating the two. Like magkakaron ng Sangkil-Capoeira & Sangkil-Arnis. Not sure with the names though pero you get the idea.  :)

Here's the Sangkil's website: http://www.sangkil.org/

It hasn't been updated though. That's why if you're interested, email nate himself: nathan_dominguez@wvi.org

So where is this Nate teaching capoiera now? Is he still teaching in UP?

I've been raring to try capoiera pero intimidated ako sa "flexibility" ng mga napapanood ko. :)

I'm from UP by the way (just in case Nate still teaches there) and would like to try capoiera some time.

Yep he's still in UP. They practice at UP Diliman Vanguard, DMST Complex. But I don't think it's everyday. Usually they just text each other for practices. I'm sorry I can't give nate's cell#. Just try to email him.  :)

Hi! I am attending the capoeira training in UP Vanguard. We have been training there for more than 1 year na din. Schedules would be Monday to Friday at 7:30 PM till 10 PM. During the weekends naman Saturday and Sunday 10:30 - 12:30. I suggest you try classes during the weekend if you are starting pa lang. For classes ng weekdays the schedule would depend kung marami availble mag attend. Our instructor is Nathan.

Do not be intimidated by the videos that you see online. Our instructor naman teach very well and there are conditioning exercises to prepare you to do the different moves. Your body would slowly learn to adapt to the moves as you continue to learn the art. You just have to be eager to learn and enjoy the art. Super masaya ito and hindi boring because you have so many things to learn. Super great workout din [textspeak!] you use both upper and lower body in the moves.

If you are interested you may email me at joanne_081684@yahoo.com. Hope to see you guys sa training!!!
