TICKS! Please Help

Hello! We currently have 10 dogs and what we did when they got ticks is that they had monthly tick-removal from our vet. We were also advised not to let them go to grassy areas/soil. It worked naman. I hope this helps.

By the way, I also had a month old dachshund with ticks at that time. Unfortunately, she passed on. If your puppy's still relatively young, you might wanna let the vets do this. They're particularly sensitive + they can get anemia fast.

Minimum Dosage: 0.0305ml (per pound)
Maximum Dosage: 0.0593ml (per pound)
Average Dosage: 0.0449ml (per pound)

Where did we get the above dosage?

I will use the recommended dosage for dogs weighing 45-88lbs because this is the pipette that I buy
For example, for dogs weighing 45-88lbs, the recommended dosage is 2.67ml
so 2.67ml / 88lbs. (max. weight of dog) = 0.0303 or just round it off to 0.0305ml
Therefore, a dog only needs 0.0305ml per pound of his body weight (minimal dosage)
or 2.67ml / 45lbs (min. weight) = 0.0593 ml (for the max. dose)

So we're safe to give them a dosage of 0.0305ml-0.0593ml per pound.

Sample computation:
My shih tzu weighs around 11lbs x 0.0449ml (this is for the average dose) = 0.4939ml or 0.5ml

computation for the Minimum dosage:
11lbs. x 0.0305ml = 0.3366ml or 0.35ml

for the Maximum Dosage:
11lbs. x 0.0593ml = 0.65ml

Average dosage lang kami just to be sure

*Kung susundin natin ang nasa packaging, my dog falls on the 0-22lbs category so .67ml dapat sya monthy. But I don't follow this because obviously it's too much for his weight, at liver ang kawawa in the long run.

nakakaloka naman ang pag cocompute nito sis hehe. very helpful. tried frontline drops nung nilalagay ko na sya feeling ko na overdose yung dog ko ..kulang nalang kumalat paikot houlder blades lalo na maliit na breed and hindi ganun kalakihan ang katawan sobra sobra yung nabibili naten n ready to apply

^haha kakaloka nga sis pero pag nasanay ka na, keri na yan! tandaan mo na lang yung results ng computation para yun na lagi mong follow.

usually I buy the largest dose, tapos .5ml lang nilalagay ko, 4x ko sya nagagamit sa shih tzus. instead dun sa smallest dose na isang gamitan lang. ang sabi kahit onti lang ilagay effective pa rin naman. ingat talaga dapat tayo kasi di lang basta sa coat and outer skin nagspread yan but sa bloodstream din nila. diba ang technology nito is madededs ang fleas and ticks once kumagat sila sa skin ng dog, so ibig sabihin nagspread siya internally.

Ay I've read another article saying na harmful ito lalo na sa small dogs and cats, as much as possible wag daw sila gamitan. stick to natural products na lang daw and do regular grooming para maagapan. kaso mahirap pag kumalat ang fleas, super bilis kasi nila maglay ng eggs, so minsan no choice kami kasi may flea allergy dermatitis yung shih tzu ko. awang awa ako pag may fleas sya kasi nagpapantal balat nya and todo kamot pero thank god ilang months na kaming flea-free, sana forever na hehe!

We found that FrontLine works best for our dogs - we get the Spot On treatment in medium size for our beagle, and large for our labrador retriever every month. Inuubos talaga ang buong packet sa nape and let the oil spread for about a week before giving them a bath.

Problema talaga pag maraming dogs sa neighborhood, your dogs will never be spared especially if you take them for walks. The ticks and fleas will always find a host kaya be religious in applying the treatment dahil babalik lang. And treat the surrounding area as well, including their beds and where they frequent.

pwede po ba gamitan ng head and shoulders ang dog?
yung puppy ko kasi ang daming ticks and ang lalaki pa..
nung nilinis ko kasi yng pinag-lalagyan nya na basket, head and shoulders ang ginamit ko.. tapos sabi ng mom ko, hindi ko daw nabanlawan ng maigi, kasi amoy H&S nga..
after a while, nilabas ko sya para mag-weewee.. pag-angat ko nalaglag yung ibang ticks.. yuckee!
ayun, pinag-iisipan ko kasing yun ang i-shampoo sakanya para anti-tick..
the question is, is it safe for my dog?
my dog is a lhatese (lhasa apso x maltese), makaka-affect kaya yun sa coat and/or skin nya?
and if ever pwede, anong ratio ng H&S to water kaya?
may naka-try na po ba sa inyo na gamitin yun?

geez! i bathe my dog 2days after putting frontline. sabi kase nung cashier eh. hayst. pero nong chineck ko siya, i found dead ticks and found some na nakakagat pa sa skin niya. and he still scratches. i should've given it more days pala. hayst.

Hindi effective yung head and shoulder sa dog for thicks actually kahit ano shampoo hindi effective sa thick unless yung shampoo e meron gamot to kill the thicks and pinaka effective at safe na pang laban sa thick is frontline lalo na kung grabe and thicks pag na control mo na yung thicks puwede ka gumamit ng shampoo with medication for thicks para ma control yung mga peste.

used frontline spot on sa chow ko around 3 weeks ago kasi ang dami nya ticks. nakakaawa nga. hindi naman totally nawala pero as i've read nga hindi naman daw agad agad ang result nun. pwede ba gumamit ng frontline spray in between the spot on? or best to wait a month na talaga? tingin ko kaya hindi nawawala kasi lagi nasa garahe yung puppy ko, nakahiga. ano bang pwedeng gamitin para maalis ticks sa semento?

^ yung frontline pwede rin gamitin sa floor at walls.. Pero ako dati araw-araw na Lysol. Pwede rin bleach.  Diluted sa pail of water. Buhos sa floor and leave it a few minutes. Eventually namatay din mga itlog ng kuto.

Yung US brand Dishwashing liquid soap na Dawn effective daw sa kuto. I dunno if meron locally. 1:7 ang ratio daw.

Asuntol ginagamit namin sa wall and floor, mix it with water then e map sa sahig sa garahe.

twelve5~ nabasa ko yang dishwashing soap sa intl forum. Effective nga daw.  Kaso i doubt na meron dito nung Dawn. Baka pag naghanap ako eh Dazz ang ibigay sakin.

Nakakainis kasi kakaalis lang minsan ng ticks sa isang part ng body niya tas after a few minutes may bago na. Hay talaga.

Haist problema ko ngayon ang fleas ng alaga ko. Naku nahihirapan ako alisin ang bilis magsitakbo ang bilis din dumami, though paisa-isa na lang nakikita ko ngayon sakanya. Nahawa ata sa alaga ng auntie ko nung dinala ko sya sa house nila last holiday. Will look for asuntol para hindi na lang ulit dumami. 

Natuwa lang ako sa alaga ko kapag kinukutuhan ko, parang  sarap na sarap sya kasi nakakatulog pa sya habang hinuhuli ko mga fleas nya.

actually, parang di nagwork ang frontline sa aso ko.
i don't know or maybe i did not do it right.

anyways, ginamitan ko siya ng ACV kahapon at ang galing niya. haha. kasi nung binanlawan ko na siya gamit acv + water, parang nagwala mga ticks. yong iba nagkumpulan sila so pinagtatanggal ko na!

di na ko gagamit ng frontline. acv na lang.

^^it might take few months bago makita ang full effects ng frontline. nung first time din namin ginamit, it took 3mos bago napuksa lahat ng fleas. but after that tinigil ko kasi harsh ito sa kanila, ginagamit ko na lang pag may infestation ulit, which rarely happens, once a year na nga lang ako maglagay ng frontline. yung isa kong dog who is turning 6yo, never ko nilagyan ng frontline. Wag nyo sanayin sa anti-flea products kasi baka maimmune yung ticks and fleas, di na yan gagana pag tagal. stick with natural remedy like acv, citronella and garlic, gamitin lang ang frontline pag heavily infested. and make sure to boost the dog's immunity by giving healthy diet--ito talaga ayaw ng fleas, pag healthy ang dogs di sila lapitin ng parasites.

What's an effective tick repellent na pwedeng ipahid/ispray sa dogs? I really don't want to use Frontline. I want to join the Doggie Run sa MOA this coming March pero I'm worried maguuwi ng madaming ticks yung dog ko.

apple cider vinegar spray and some garlic added to their food. meron ding citronella sprays. make sure that you feed healthy meals kasi parasites don't like healthy dogs, they like to cling to unhealthy dogs
