I also just heard about the anti-tick shots recently. Twice a year daw but very effective. Will look into that asap. Kawawa naman shih-tzu namin, di makalakad tuloy tuloy cause she keeps on scratching. Then yung lab namin would rub her body sa textured wall sa garage. Poor girls...

thanks for the heads up on the anti-tick shot, sisters. good timing as my dog's up for his frontline next tuesday. we're diligent in giving him frontline because two years ago, we nearly lost our dog to ehrlichiosis, a tick-borne disease. grabe, almost a month siya confined in the hospital, and when he was fine enough to go home, he still had to be brought to the vet twice a week to monitor his platelets, white blood cells, liver, kidney, etc etc. haaaay, scary ang ticks!  i'll explore this tick shot as an alternative to frontline.

Sang vet meron nag-ooffer ng anti-tick shot in Q.C. sana. Kasi I inquired in Animal House, wala daw sila nun. They only have the heartguard shot (which my dog already got) and Frontline and Advantage lang.

Sis, why don't you try asking the government vets? They should know something. Our dogs got their tick shot from the government vet clinic along Recto.

went to the vet last night hindi naman binigyan ng anti-tick shot yung pup k, what he gave is preventic, its an anti-tick collar, then he told me buy "sevin" agrigultural product daw yun, and kailangan kong ispray sa yard 2x a week for 3mos, coz 95% daw of ticks live outside the dogs

Yep!  Its actually near Pegasus.  From Scout Chuatoco you need to go left /right (depending were your coming from....if your coming from Q Ave then turn right to the first street where you can see an arch, thats Champaca St.......if you came from Roces Ave. then you enter the scts (Sct Reyes, Tobias etc) then you have to turn left)

The name is Vets on the Block.  You can actually call  421 8428 look for Dr. Rey del Napoles.  He is good.  He actually was able to save my dogs from parvo virus even when lab test hasn't confirmed it yet (my dogs got sick Dec. 24, 2006) so for the next 3 days he was just giving cure per symptoms.  My dogs was actually defecating blood.  The dogs are now 2.5 years old.

Frontline is a very effective way to control ticks and fleas.  But there is a rule so that it would really be effective.  Frontline should be applied 3 days after its last bath.  Shampoo ingredients has contraindications to the active ingredients of the Frontline.  Then bathe your dog after 3 days of application.  This rules are not indicated in the packaging but a number of vets I am acquainted to told me so.

Sa shampoo lang ba sis?  What if asuntol soap ang ginamit sa bath niya before? Baka this is the reason why hindi umepekto dati yung frontline sa aso namin.  Kasi yung dark grey ticks lang ang nawala while the reddish-brown ones not only survived, they multiplied.

Question lang: how long yung effect ng frontline na spray?

Clarification lang sis, one anti-tick shot is effective for six months? Hindi kakapitan ng ticks yung aso for that long?  If so, mas maganda nga than frontline ito ...

what is asuntol?  soap or liquid medicine?

May soap, meron ding powder that comes in packets.  Bay-o-pet yata pangalan ng soap, available in supermarkets.  Yung asuntol powder naman available sa mga vets, Ace hardware or you can try poultry supply stores first because i heard mas mura dun.

Basta if shampoo yung dogs irregardless kung anong gamit mo, dapat allow 3 days for the effect of the shampoo ingredients to disperse bago administer yung frontline.

Usually a month lang yung effect.  Take note that when infested na talaga, don't use the spot on.  Use the spray.  Spot on is only advisable for maintenance meaning wala naman ticks or fleas kaya lang preventive lang.

Depende if you follow the process.  Dapat kasi may succession of shots before yung maintenance na sinasabi.  Not so sure if weekly na sunod sunod yung gagawin.  Pero for me mas prefer ko frontline.  Yung dogs ko (8 total) every 2 months lang application kasi wala naman sila pest kahit in season.

^safe naman tyung anti-tick shots. we gave 2 of our toy poodles before. there was a time kasi na grabe yung infestation - galing dun sa dogs ng neighbor namin. hindi kinaya ng Front Line. For maintenance we use Front Line - yung nilalagay sa nape ng dog and then we use Front Line spray for the surroundings.

Since we can't find a vet that offers tick shots near our place, we used frontline na lang. We have a huge black lab so dyahe to bring her pag malayo. So we used the spot on Frontline then gave them a bath 5 days later and used the asuntol powder (1 tablespoon powder for every 1 gallon water) for their last rinse.

i use sevin also for my rottie.. ang laki kasi.. magastos pag shampoos and other topical meds.. [textspeak!] sevin about 70pesos per pack lang.. then ihahalo s gawgaw, about half a kilo to a kilo will do, then instant dog powder na.. effective naman.. makikita mo [textspeak!] nadedehydrate [textspeak!] ticks and kusa n [textspeak!] cya bumabagsak.. then i also put some sevin sa kanyang dog house.. tipid hehe..
