Discussion on DSL/Internet Service Providers

Aside from PLDT MyDSL, what other EFFECTIVE DSL provider can you recommend?

I have an Internet Cafe.  We've been on PLDT MyDSL Biz for more than two years.  I'm paying 4000 monthly for DSL plus a biz phone line, so that's almost 6k monthly.

Sa bahay namin, plan 999.  Minsan slow, minsan DC. 

Lately, I've been having problems with my Internet Connection.  It started LAST WEEK. Several CSRs & PLDT technicians I've talked to told me that they are currently on the process of migrating (this is the term they used) DSL platforms (or lines) for the improvement of PLDT DSL connection.

Sa dati daw kasi, hindi maabot yung correct DSL speed offered in their DSL plans.  Ngayon daw, kaya nila inaayos, para bumilis.  Sabi ko, bakit parang pumangit, kasi bumagal ang Internet connection ko, minsan DC pa.

Sana wala na lang silang binago.. Satisfied na ako sa DSL namin sa shop.  Ngayon, kami ang masisira sa mga customers sa ginagawa nila.

Naka set ang connection ko sa : Obtain IP Address Automatically.
Wala na akong gamit na router.
Modem at Hub na lang.
Everytime na may bubuksan na bagong PC, DC lahat yung ibang mga PC na nakabukas na.
May note na ako sa bawat cubicle na instructions na dapat gawin ng customer pag na-DC. (they have to click REPAIR sa Local Area Connection Status)
Hassle diba?

im currently using Plan 999 since august last year. so far okay naman sya sis...wala pa naman ako nagiging problema (*crossing my fingers*).

^^sorry, i can't really recommend other DSL providers, kasi baka palpak sila sa area mo sis.  yan ang mahirap sa DSL service dito sa Pilipinas, hindi pantay-pantay ang level of service, nag-vavary depending sa area mo.  may other DSL providers ba na ginagamit ang mga kapitbahay niyo diyan?  mas mabibigyan ka kasi nila ng accurate feedback.

i'm currently using PLDT DSL plan 999, and so far, di naman ako na-didisconnect madalas.  mabilis pa rin naman ang speed, though napansin ko na bumagal siya compared to before.  last month na-experience ko yung difficulty connecting to the DSL service.  it used to take at least 5 tries bago ako maka-connect.  ayun, kinulit ko ng kinulit yung PLDT customer service.  wala naman silang binigay na reason for that, wala naman daw problem on their side (ang lagi nilang gasgas na excuse).  after 3 weeks, nawala din yung problema.

saan ba ang area mo sis?  yung sinasabi nilang ginagawa nila sa DSL connection mo, yan ba yung ginagawa na nilang NGN (Next Generation Network) yung DSL connection mo?  matagal ko na kasi naririnig yan from them e, pero up to now wala pa rin silang ginagawang upgrades sa area namin.

^Sa LP ako sis.  Yun din ang alam ko, depende sa area.   Yung nga yung ginagawa nila dito NGN.  Sabi nung tech, by area daw ang ginagawa nila.  OKay lang sana kung sa bahay yung hassle, pero Internet shop ito.  Kami ang mababadshot sa customers namin dahil sa kanila.

Yung sa bahay, more than 2 years na rin ang PLDT DSL.  Dati yung Tri-Isys ang gamit namin, haha sobrang bagal.  Di makapag-YT.

sis, i highly recommend globe broadband. though i cant really rave about the service in LP area.

i've been a customer of PLDT since 2004 pero i noticed they promote too much of their services that people availed naman. since more and more people availed of it and they cant apply new technology to sustain the demand of DSL, nagkaroon tuloy ng congestion. sometimes, subscribers rant about slow connections and sometimes disconnection. when small to medium business DSL lines were introduced like bayantel, globe and digitel, dun na nagkaroon ng competition though some areas are still monopolized by PLDT.

ako, tyaga lang ako sa dial-up sa bahay kasi i am in the office naman lagi

RE: Globe, very poor customer service naman ang nababasa kong mga feedbacks tungkol sa kanila...    Meron akong friend na taga-Alabang, slow & DC din ang naexperience niya sa Globe.  Pero yung friend ni hubby na taga-Pasig, SOBRANG bilis naman ng sa kanya.

Depende talaga sa area.  Sana naman, kung mag-aadvertise sila, equal excellent DSL & customers service din ang matatanggap ng customers nila.

Medyo bumabalik na sa normal ang DSL ko dito sa shop.  Sa bahay naman wala kanina.

Using Globe "Speak & Surf".  Only get good & fast connection early morning or very late at night outside our house.

korek sis, i think it depends na rin sa area. if i can afford a t1 connection, i'd rather get one

Ano okay na DSL connection kapag sa bandang St.Joseph, dun sa may ortigas extension near Ever Gotesto. Part ng Cainta Rizal?

^gamit ko dati MyDestiny broadband nung nasa countryside Pasig kame pero dahil lumipat na kame pinaputol ko.. pero yung friends ko (from countryside) gamit nila Globe okei naman daw connection..

our DSL provider is PLDT. bundled service with the phone line... sabi ko nga sa mama ni bf, sana yung bundled service na lang for cable, internet & phone. so far, ok naman ang speed ng connection. one thing lang na masasabi ko... hindi ganun ka-galing ang tech support agents nila. ang alam lang gawin, i-power cycle ang modem...

@ -riarz- : nagtry ka na ng ibang troubleshooting steps sis? kung lagi mo nire-repair yung LAN mo, baka kailangan ko i-reinstall yung LAN. or reset mo yung winsock or tcp/ip to stack settings. last year lang kami kumuha ng DSL sa PLDT... and aminin ko, nung start... ilang days din na lagi akong nasa harap ng PC para i-troubleshoot kung ano problem. tumatawag ako, ok naman daw ang connection. i even spoke to a manager. he assured me na ok naman ang service/account namin. so binutingting ko ng onti yung PC. from then on, wala na kaming naging problem.

naku, sorry sis, di ko alam kung anong okay na broadband provider diyan sa LP.  ang labo ng PLDT, dapat across the board e pareho ang quality of service nila.  but i guess ganyan ang sakit ng companies din like Globe and Bayantel.

sa amin, nilipat na daw kami to NGN.  at least yan ang sabi ng taga-PLDT na nakausap ko.  ang nakakainis lang is mabilis siya nung first two days pagkatapos nilipat sa NGN, pero after that e bumagal siya.  di naman sobrang bagal ha, nakukuha pa rin namin more or less yung minimum speed na nakalagay para sa plan namin, pero bumagal siya compared to before.

ano ba nangyari after ng NGN switch sa inyo?  tinanggal na ba yung need to dial-in to get a DSL connection?  ganun kasi ang ginawa dito sa amin, wala nang kailangan na dialer, you just have to turn on the modem tapos after a few seconds e connected ka na sa internet.

^Sis ever since wala na kaming dialer, pagkaopen din ng modem, antayin ko lang umilaw yung third light, okay na.  Automatic na ang connection sa lahat ng PC dito sa shop.

Since my last post here, hindi na ulit nagloko ang DSL dito sa shop.  Mabilis na ulit.

^^Sis, maayos lahat ng connection. Sa PLDT talaga ang problem.  Sa totoo lang, WALA talagang maisagot na maayos yung PLDT CSR sa 171 at 172.  Pag may problema, ang isasagot sa inyo, gagawan na lang daw ng report.  Eh kung kailangan na ng repair ora mismo dahil may naghihintay na customers, paano pa mahihintay ang feedback nila dibah.  Wala silang maitulong na technical process or steps man lang para maiayos.  Laging sasabihin, ireset ang modem or yung router ang problema... Puro reasons lang nila yun..

^i have a suggestion sis. pero i don't know if ayos to sa iyo. when i still had my shop, i applied for 2 DSL connections from different companies.

nung wala pang bayantel sa area ko, i subscribed to PLDT and then dial up lang yung isa kong connection. sa dial up, madugo pa kasi ilalabas ko pa sa router yung connection then sa pc lang saka connect sa switch then shared connection sa dial up. that is okay dahil wala akong games sa shop ko (never had one except when my friends will play, install and uninstall agad)

when bayantel had their door-to-door service, i availed that. mabigat sa bulsa pero it gave me the peace of mind that i am serving my customers good internet service

^^ buti naman ok na internet connection mo... pag yung mismong central office ang issue, mahirap yun sis. kasi ilang technicians ang gagawa nun. pero dapat pag 3rd time mo ng nagreport, dapat naka-flag na yung connection mo sa kanila. na pwede ka ng magpacancel ng service kasi pangit yung connection mo. anyway, sana hindi na maulit. kawawa ang business mo pag ganun. hindi pa naman malinaw ang credit adjustment rules dito sa tin.

^ mabigat nga sa bulsa yun sis... 2 providers in one location. pero kung hassle free naman at kayang i-support ng business mo, why not di ba?!

^Sis nag-inquire na nga si Hubby sa MyDestiny pero hindi ata abot dito sa area namin.  I've been reading mixed reviews nga lang.  Wala nga talagang perfect Internet provider.. 

^^Nako sis, would you believe, more than a week akong tawag nang tawag sa kanila EVERYDAY. 2-3 times a day din ako tumatawag.  Ilang technicians & CSR na ang nakausap ko, walang masabi kundi SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENVCE.... Eh pwede ko bang sabihin yun sa customers ko?  Hay, sabi ko nga, panira sila.  Kami pa naman ang may pinakamabilis na Internet dito compared sa ibang shop na malapit na residential ang gamit.  Lugi dibah.  Never nga akong nakatanggap ng rebate.

Pero still, PLDT pa rin ang dominant kaya no choice..

^ hindi pa din kasi ganun ka-updated ang technology dito sa tin kaya ganyan. sa states nga, ang daming issues ng ISP eh... dito pa kaya sa philippines?!

Well US DSL isn't that ahead...
If you compare US and Philippine broadband to say Korea....oooohhhh wow that's just unbelievable.
To get a relative image, the circumference of US cables is like a straw. Korea's are like as wide as coke cans.
Anyway, I use Eastern Telecom for our office. Visit http://www.evodsl.com.ph to see their packages.
Pretty good, very few downtimes, but their billing and support are just terrible.


That's on up to 1 mbps plan for P3,300 with landline and P300 "prepaid" NDD/IDD calls.
The reason I say terrible billing and support is because they keep charging me for the NDD/IDD calls whereas they're supposed to be covered by the P300 "prepaid". Their phone customer support don't keep track of my calls, I sent a letter challenging the charges since Feb 2008, and still no progress.

^heard also that eastern telecom has good internet service pero i can't attest to it yet.
