ako in my own opinion lang ha..i think meron mang choice o wala,,its God's design for marriage na wives should submit to husbands,, kasama na dito pati ang paggamit sa surname ng husband..

The husband is the head of the wife. He is to be her protector and provider. When a wife takes her husband’s name, she displays submission to him, which is in accord with God’s will.

Notice: “Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord” (Eph. 5:22; also read Colossians 3:18).

I totally go for the woman's right to chose her preferred name but...

I used my hubby's last name but kept my dad's last name as my middle name.talagang buong 3 words ko sinusulat, i dont use middle initial. Hyphenating my old last name never interested me kahit na i became a professional when i was still single. Kasi i found out how tedious and frustrating it can be when going thru gov't files and other databases that do not accept hyphens, and such pain in the *** when you start applying for travel or petition documents.  For practicality's sake i did not want to suffer for the rest of my life arguing with people, getting a wrong name or just plainly getting denied for an application just because of a stupid hyphen.

Isa pang mahirap later on is when the mom does not take the family's last name (her hubby's). Isipin nyo nalang when you have kids already, tapos ikaw lang ang naiiba. Mahirap ipaintindi sa mga bata lalo na when they're young and they realize na naiiba yung name ng mom nila.i mean, ok lang syo kasi you can explain why,but usually they become the poor victims of questioning because of your choices. Napagdaanan ko yan when i was younger and man it was not a very happy memory.even now, when I got married, pati pagsulat ng name ng mom ko sa wedding invitation dami pang tanong!

So i guess sa mga nag iisip pa lang, just remember na it's not just you anymore who is going to get affected on what you decide on, it's your entire family (think about your husband's and your kids' feelings!!!) that will bear the consequences of your preferences.

It's not practical to change surname if you are a professional who's been through so many licensing exams, so many diplomas etc. tapos everyone in your field already knows you by that name.  It's more realistic to just retain your own identity.  Sa states naman it's not a big deal.   Masyado lang ma-ego ang men sa filipino culture kaya nagiging big deal ang surname issue.
