hello po,  first of all hindi po ako female. Dati napo ako nagcomment dito about HMO and I happend to drop by again when browsing HMO related forums. I'm an HMO practitioner so I can help you about HMO related issues. Well, of course pupunta rin tayo dun. For now sagutin muma natin mga concerns nyo about HMOs and as far as industry practices are concerned bka kaya ko po sagutin.

dun sa question na naka-quote, meron pong mga life insurance na nag-ooffer ng life insurance with health care benefits pero limited po sa mga dreaded disease.  The problem is masyado malaki ang premium and maraming medical underwriting requirements. Kaya this would more of a long term investment and preparation sa pagtanda natin. Wala po ako alam na life insurance na may kasama HMO benefits.  You have to get an HMO separately.

Industry practice po ang age limit na 59-60.  Pero if you are under corporate or group plan pwede po up to age 65.

I would be glad to answers more HMO related questions, kaya shoot!

hi nikmatik. glad you're around to answer our questions regarding hmo.

anyway, i am choosing between two companies kase. i think yung bluecrosss is health insurance na reimbursible ang confinement while icare naman is the usual hmo na one yr di pede gamitin for dreaded diseases and medyo mababa ang limit for confinement...

thanks

intellicare, corporate accounts only. wala silang for individual. have a friend here. sayang nga eh.

fortunecare, based on my mom who had this card, isa lang masasabi niya: PANGET!!! hehe she is always pissed off with the services.

cocolife up to 65yo.

i will try bluecross. i would give details asap i receive a reply from them. premiere medical plan ang tawag sa kanila for senior citizens, intentionally.

my parents are already 61 and 62 so very useful and helpful if they will have hmo with them. less worries.

if you guys have other HMOs who has/have nice packages for senior citizens, keep it coming, please post them. i really need them. please. thanks  ;)

trulily na mura siya actually pero when i was with her, naintindihan ko bakit ganun siya kaasar sa fortune care. when my mom went to them for urinalysis, they gave plastic cup without cover, meaning ieexpose lang iyong ihi while waiting for the medtechs to test the urine. it should be covered kasi. ang sabi pa ng nurse, ihi lang naman yan eh. kainis ang sagot! tapos they always lack the coordinator or supplies. basta something like that. ewan ko lang if until now ganun pa din. i will ask my mom for more instances with fortunecare.

Bluecross is reimbursement type.  You have to shell out money and reimburse later.  as far as I know wala silang OPD benefits.  I could be wrong on this.

Icare  stands for Insular Life Health Care.  It is traditional HMO, no cash out in and out patient benefit.  Pre-existing condition is not covered on the first year but may be covered on the 2nd year onwards, emphasis on "may".  Merong yearly medical evaluation or underwriting wherein titingnan ang status ng dreaded disease mo and from there, it's either exclude yung adverse condition, sisingilin ka addtional rate para ma-cover in full or bigyan ka lang ng partial coverage for that condition.  Upon enrollment you are asked to declare in application form all adverse medical condition.  Merong mga add-on benefits like Group Term Insurance, Medicine Reimbursment benefit etc. check them out at http://www.icare.net.ph

Fortunecare lang ang may HMO benefits for senior citizens.  Kaya lang you have to ask carefully and understand kung paano ang coverage nila for PEC ng matatanda.  Ang alam ko 3 years na eexclude yung PEC and after 3 years, you can request for its coverage, subject to acceptance or denial depende sa resulta ng kanilang medical underwriting.  I could be wrong about this  kaya you have to ask.  Check them out at http://www.fortunecare.com.ph

Kung Individual Plan, all HMOs don't cover pre-existing condition sa first year.  Sa covergae on 2nd year onwards nagkakatalo.  Yung iba coverd in full agad, yung iba graduated yearly, say 5K sa 2nd year, 10K sa 3rd year, and so forth.  Or yung iba naman nag se set ng limit for PEC, say up to P15K lang forever.  Kaya etong portion na to about PEC ang kelangan nyong itanong at malaman in detail.

Eto yung you are asked to declare in your application form all adverse medical condition.  If say for example may hypertension ka upon enrollment but di mo dineclare.  On the 2nd year when you are expecting that it will be covered sasabihin sa you permanently excluded because di mo dineclare.  Kaya its better to be honest right from the start.  Ask the HMO or HMO agent about this.

Medicard is the No. 1 HMO kaya lang they are very good only for big corporate and group accounts lang.  Medyo di ako bilib sa Indidividual and Family Plan nila and also for small group.  Dito yung graduated PEC coverage and pag nagonset sa 1st year patay kang bata ka!
And if you are 40 and above you have to undergo medical exams sa kanilang clinic.  Kung may makitang negative findings- excluded forever.

INTELLICARE - la silang Individual except for a few na dati covered nila sa corporate then nag-resign kaya na enroll sa Individual.

Don't get me wrong ladies.  We are talking here of Individual enrollment ha. Halos lahat magaganda.

Limit muna discussion to this topic.  You can ask questions about the topic muna. Later we will talk about "anti selection", "heirarchy", "permanent exclusion".

My own personal HMO is Icare under Individual.  My wife is my dependent but she also has Medicard.  My son is under Maxicare courtesy of his employer.
For Family & Indiviudal, Icare is recommended.

If you are enrolling with an HMO because your have an adverse medical condition, better ask the HMO or HMO agent if they will cover it on the 2nd year onwards, and at how much. Clear this matter out.  Forget about the 1st year.  Be honest if you have an adverse condition.  Be transparent about it and don't w/hold any medical information.  In this way the HMO can tell you outright if they will cover it or not.

Same is true w/ senior citizens.  Tell the HMO about all adverse condition so you won't get frustrated later.

If say for example you have diabetes and undergoing dialysis na, don't expect the HMO to cover it even on the 2nd yr, 3rd yr or 4th yr.  Chances are it is going to be excluded.

If you are recovering from a stroke and would like to enroll in an HMO so that you can avail of post-stroke procedures like physical theraphy, forget it.  You will be disappointed. It is going to be excluded.

Pwede bang ipakiusap? And you will pay addtional premium if needed?
HMOs are business entities and are there to earn and to get profits.  They are not charitable insitutions.  Individual Plans are not flexible.

Yan ang tinatawag na "concealment" and it's a ground for total exclusion if they find out na you concealed it and nag-pa cehck up kana dati saan mang hospital or doctor about the same.
Yes! But I cannot divulge how, cause it's confidential

My wife has 2 cards ICare and Medicard

nalalaman nila even if hindi ka naconfine? nagpacheck up ka lang?
 ;) ;) ;)

so the best bet would be icare? do you recommend bluecross if you have money naman to reimburse it muna? mas malaki kase coverage nila eh

Yes nalalaman nila.. kahit check up lang.
Blue cross kasi aside from reimbursemnt type, walang OPD benefits
My son is enrolled with maxicare as company benefits ng employer nya

A little ccorrection...

Not all HMOs will require you to declare your adverse medical condition.  However, these HMOs

will not cover your PEC totally.  Among dito eh yung mga graduated ang coverage until you reach a certain amount which is usually very minimal.

Sa Medicard, wy wife's PEC is covered up P5,000 ONLY forever.  La na declaration of PEC and medical underwriting.  They have no concealment provision.  But you are subjected to Medical Examination (ECG, PAPSMEAR,PHYSICAL EXAM, URNINE,xray, ect) during enrollment and kung ano ang nakitang adverse findings, excluded forever.  You have to pay around P450 for the medical exams which is done sa clinic nila sa makati.

With ICare naman there's no medical exam. But I was required to declare all adverse Medical condition.  Then I have to submit a Medical certificate about the PEC. I'm subjected to yearly evaluation of my hypertension.  During my renewal I have to pay about 10% more to be entitled to full coverage. I chose to pay higher.

Balita ko maxicare is pareho din w/ICare. Yung fortunecare I heard, pareho naman with Medicard.

So its a choice between:
1.  you undergo medical underwriting and declare all your PEC and coverage is cases to case basis subject to yearly evaluation
2.  No medical underwriting, no declaration needed but your PEC is limited to a minimal amount forever, plus you undergo medical exams and pay for it.

I'm eying a pension plan from them din kasi and ideally gusto ko these things I get from one company na lang. We'll be discussing that tomorrow, I'll let you know how it goes. Check out their health program/plan at their website.

In case you don't know, most HMO standard benefits include warts removal worth P1,000 a year, neck up only.
