1. make sure to watch wicked, we enjoyed it! at first i was hesitant pero i'm glad we watched it coz one of the best shows in broadway yun,but first book ahead your tickets para may seats na before aug
2.we stayed in soho area for a week and we spent the days walking around the neighborhood and the streets beside soho like the village,chinatown,chelsea.you will really feel the new york vibe:)
3.do read trip advisor coz that helped us plan ahead our new york adventure
4.visit all the parks,shop at the malls,order a pizza,book a sex in the city tour or the gossip girl tour or you can just do it yourself para cheaper:)
5.and lastly wear comfy shoes so you could walk walk and walk for days:)

what should one wear in new york city especially in august... im not a jeans type so please recommend other stuff mg sis. ill appreciate it! TIA

^ August is still summer (almost fall) in the U.S. so anything comfortable that you wear in the Philippines can be worn in New York in August.  It can still be hot and humid in August but a bit cooler and drier than July.  It would be good to bring a light sweater / jacket, though, to keep you warm in the airconditioned museums / theaters / malls.

for cheap broadway tickets, go to TKTS (corner of 47th and broadway almost in the middle of times square between 11AM and 230. thats the best time to go in my experience because at that time the best discounted seats (nearer the stage) are still available.

if you have your student id with you, sometimes if you line up outside a play door they have a "starving student" fund where students who present their id only pay $20 for seats along the side or at the very front (in front of the actual orchestra). each play has different rules for this though so you can check out the websites for each play accordingly.

my favorite place to go is the brooklyn bridge. when i lived there i took the subway almost everytime i was in manhattan all the way to nearly the end so i could sit on a bench on the bridge, drink coffee and watch people go by. if you're feeling adventurous and you love to walk, go cross the bridge to brooklyn so you can sample the best italian fare in NY. buy cheesecake cannolis, and sample the rustic pizza places. i dont remember the name of the famous pizza place there but you'll see it almost immediately after the bridge ends.

there is one cheap asian resto that serves really great fare - the saigon grill. it has around 2 branches in manhattan. if you want to meet fellow pinoys a lot of them are there between 6-9 i think.

another favorite place for me is watching the skaters at rockefeller center. the music is almost always beautiful and you can really get some good thinking in while watching the skaters go by.

there are a lot of NY tourist programs online, from the Big Apple greeter to the walking tours downloadable and those for pay. I did a lot of the walking tours on my own though i dont remember where i got them.

Go to central park too! have a picnic, watch the cute soccer players and just enjoy a simple day in the most complicated city in the world.

if you go to the Plaza to stare at the famous painting of Eloise, also go across the street to FAO Schwartz to step on the famous floor piano and just enjoy the kiddie fare

Also visit Dylan's Candy bar in Lexington and Serendipity Cafe which is a few blocks away.

Cupcake Cafe on 29th Street looks ugly but also has the best cupcakes around. With Madonna and Barbra Streisand as clientele, worth a shot! I find their better than Magnolia Bakery's on Bleeker, but you should try those too.

mga sis until now ba pwede pa den mag pa akyat sa luob ng Statue of Liberty?

natutuwa ako kasi naexperience ko yan hangang sa pinakataas ng crown niya, naakyat namen..grabeh ang haba ng pila sa luob tapos paakyat pa siya...pag dating sa may spiral kaloka hehe as in madikit talaga...sorry na lang talaga kung medyo mataba ka kasi pagdating sa spiral good for 1 person ang limit ng space pag akyat...

I was in line para umakyat sa crown pero mga 10 minutes palang sa pila nagback out ako, sinoli ko yung number ko, kasi it was negative 18 degrees outside and i forgot to bring gloves and wasn't even wearing thermal. Kahit nakatrench coat sobrang lamig pa din dahil sa lakas ng hangin. hehe! Pagdating ng Ferry sa Manhattan tumakbo agad ako sa store to buy gears to warm me up. Next time aakyat na ko sa crown, pero satisfied na din ako sa photo ops sa baba hehe!

^ sayang sis andun ka na sayang ang mumento....grabeh haba ng pila noh...kala ko pag pasok sa luob madali na yun pala pila paden pala talaga ang haba 2x, hangang sa pataas ng crown ni Liberty...

pero lam mo sis pag dating mo sa crown as in wala pa atang 2 mins baba na den kaagad kasi madame pang nakasunod sa likod mo...ng picture 2x lang kame ng onti dun ng parents ko den baba na....maliit lang den kasi ang space sa bandang crown (parang lumakad ka lang sa crown niya, parang ganun) so talagang hindi ka pwede mag tagal dahil may nakapila pa sa likod....wala naman kasi ibang way, one route lang ang galaw ng pila....

if you're in NY pala, you can also go to free arts and be a big sister for a day! you get to help local kids with arts and crafts project and also meet people who are just like you. I also met other people who volunteer at soup kitchens there. it was very enriching.
