^ Yes, there's no direct flight to NY. I suggest Korean Air - cheap airfare and excellent service.

^^  I don't know of any airline that flies non-stop to New York.  I used to take United Airlines going to the U.S.  As far as I can remember, they also don't have any non-stop flights to New York.  When UA "closed shop" in Manila, I switched to Northwest Airlines.  Northwest normally has stops in Japan and then port of entry when you're headed for the East Coast would be Minneapolis/St. Paul, Detroit or Memphis.  Now that Northwest is owned by Delta Airlines, they could be operating differently (but I doubt it).  I haven't flown Northwest since after it had been acquired by Delta.

PAL only flies until the West Coast.  PAL does not fly to the East Coast.  If you take PAL going to New York, your port of entry might be LA or San Franciso and then they'll get you accommodated by one of their affiliated airlines on a flight to New York.

Cathay is another good airline to take but I think they would transfer passengers to United Airlines from Hong Kong.  That means it's Cathay for the Asia leg and then it's United Airlines for the Asia-U.S. leg.  I agree with ais730...  Korean Airlines usually offers the lowest rates for Manila-U.S.

You can look for a travel agency that could offer you the best deal according to your preference.

i also prefer Korean Airlines. though the stopover at Korea is 3 hours, it's actually ok since there's a small chance that you'll be left by the plane in case your first flight gets delayed. (my brother spent his christmas eve in japan because the flight from la was delayed and he was left by the plane going to manila. btw, it was japan air.) best of all, the incheon airport is beautiful.

thanks so much for all your replies.. i'll tell my hubby about the korean airlines... PAL kase gusto nya but its ok daw kaht may stop over... did you know guys how much is one way fee? i heard PAL has 20% off for first time immigrants but i cant find it in their website..    thanks again...

I love NY. We stayed at Westin Hotel, may katabing hotel yun eh di ko matandaan yung name pero mura lang ata. The good thing about it is walking distance lang sha sa Time square. We just drove from Pittsburgh PA to NYC for 6 hours. Shempre boss ko ang nag drive kasi sha lang pwede eh. Team building daw namin yun. Sosyal diba?

Just don't do the subway beyond 8PM.

Oh I sincerely hope no one followed this advice. And why not, pray tell, should you not take the subway beyond 8pm? The freaks come out or something? Oh please  . Whatever myths you've heard about New York, its people and its subway system, they are just that -- myths. The subway is perfectly fine and runs relatively smoothly late night (although local for most express lines). Pay attention to service changes that usually occur on weekends and it's best to plan your route ahead by checking the map. Its still the most efficient and economical way of getting around NYC so take full advantage of this system.

I take the subway around midnight when we go out clubbing. I guess when they say it's dangerous because you're with the drunk crowd - those people who are on their way home from drinking. But like junetwentythree said, these are all myths! You just have to be aware and alert of your surroundings.

last time i've been there was two years after ground zero, i distinctly recall seeing iron maiden concert posters on the makeshift walls shielding the construction site. and before that, i actually had a recollection of how the twin towers looked like. i'd like to see the new ones in place.

a few months after i've been to NYC and i'm already missing it. there's just something about the place that really makes one say "i heart" it. and yes, i did take the subway several times. speaking of trains, i even took the train connecting jersey to new york. it was all right. made me see different dimensions of the city. want to go back!
