most often mas mahal ang Australia kaysa sa kanila. kaya nga mahina ang retail stores dito kasi karamihan via internet na ang purchase. money is king. if you add up all the cents or dollars you've saved, it will be significant. and being liquid is key in these modern times.

kaya nga ako I always bring with me a bottle of water. lalo na pag summer. I bring with me an insulated bottle. total, may mini reverse osmosis unit ako sa bahay. so water is good. dati always on the road ako. so $3 x 30 = 90. dami nangmabibili ng 90 sa supermarket. bottled soda is another. minsan halos $4 sa mga vendo dito.

hello sisses! me and my family (5 members) are planning to apply for an australian visa together but we do not have any relatives there. What are the chances that we will be granted a visa? In some forums, it seems that an invitation letter from a relative/friend may increase the chances of getting a visa. another concern is, my mom will shoulder my expenses (i am still a student) as well as my sister's expenses even if my sister has her own stable job. I buy most stuff from Amazon in the US. target in the US is waaay different from here. Even Singapore's prices are still acceptable.

Singapore prices are way way way acceptable. Aussie prices are generally ridiculous. Maganda pa nga prices sa Pinas kamo. Hindi mo nga lang lagi makikita ang full range of products ng isang brand sa pinas.

the joke is pa nga di ba, the East Coast is 6 months behind the US. West Coast is 6 months behind the East Coast.

I too buy from Amazon but more from E-bay or direct from the Manufacturer. Pero medyo asar din ako ng konti pagdating sa online buying. once malaman ng seller na nasa Australia ka. they jack up the price. either unit price or the price of shipping. mostly mga ganito ay yung mga manufacturers online shop. a good example na lang is Under Armour. yung 49.99 nila eh halos naging 100 AUD na. so i told them "forget it". nang napunta naman ako sa US, 19.99-29.99 lang naman sila. at that time mas malaki pa AUD kesa sa USD. Pero meron namang manufacturers na hindi mag iiba ng presyo.

The way i see Australia is this.

Store A and Store B

Store A sells 10000 bottles a month at 100 pesos. Total monthly income is therefore 1,000,000

Store B wants to have a monthly income of 1,000,000 too but due to the population, environment, geographical limitations etc.,can only sell 1,000 bottles. so store B sells at 1,000 pesos per bottle.

Both stores therefore will earn 1M.


US is like Store A. Australia is like store B. the feeling kasi is you're paying for first world privileges. The US conquers the world so it can sell in huge volumes. So its citizens can pay so much less.

John Howard was like the Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore. Siya ang nag angat sa Australia. Dati Australia was "2nd world." Hindi daw naiiba sa Pinas pag dating sa pag travel sa ibang bansa, kailangan din nila ng Visa makapasok lang sa i.e US. Unemployment was high too. Sabi ng mga matatanda dito. magtataka ka daw noon pano naging 1st world ang australia. Howard changed all that. But Australians are not like Singaporeans. They're cowboys when it comes to personal freedom.

^ Fremantle ka pala. I think  the price jumps in properties is caused by the mining boom and FIFO workers.I saw in karattha ampangit ng house 1,500 per week! Hubby ko is FIFO din but not mining-he's sort of working for Chevron. nagsasamantala naman rentals kasi alam nila kahit maganda o hindi, mauupahan kasi peole need places to live in. may sense din naman na bumili ka na lang kesa mag rent, talo talaga eh!

it's sooooo behind times here and hindi rin naman available ang full products range. I would recommend getting a MYUS address (myus.com) para hindi ka mamahalan sa shipping to Aussie, that's what I do. I pay 80 USD a year for the storage fee (free for 30 days), may personal shopper din (if  you're trying to buy from a website who only accepts US cc's) and kino-consolidate nila shipping, you'll get your parcel in 5 days' time. kaso palya sa delivery ang kahit no cargo service dito sa Aussie, hindi nasusunod yung 5 days, more like 7 days kasi HINDI DAW PROTOCOL ang tawagan ang recipient before i-deliver (DHL,UPS,FEDEX). nasa side ng Aussie delivery ang problema ko lagi.  Just keep your purchases under 1k AUD para hindi ka magbayad ng tax and your purchases are fine. I recently bought Vibrams shoes which costs 140 AUD++ here in Perth na 77-85 USD lang prices. Since may monthly sched naman parcels ko, negligible na yung shipping compared sa bulk ng mga binili ko. I even bought a folding bike from there (215 USD) na would cost more than 700 AUD dito,nakakawalang gana talaga mag shopping dito. 

I haven't been to the East Coast and frankly, why would we? ka-price ng tickets to the rest of Asia ang papunta East so instead of going East, we frequent Singapore and Philippines na lang (ganun sched ng hubby ko, 10 weeks working then 3 weeks off). , masaya pa kami, mas nakakapaglibang kami nang ganun. I have a toddler aged 20 months and I wanted to place her in a child care facility but then I'm stumped kasi 1 year daw waiting list! parang ayoko na tuloy...di bale ako na lang mag-alaga. I heard schooling system ng mga bata dito hindi rin maganda,nakaka discourage papag-aralin anak ko. Sa Pinas na lang namin papaaralin. We were so disappointed kasi pag sinabi Aussie, "world class"....now I wonder which "class" they're referring to.

We lived in Singapore din and it's literally worlds apart. Singapore might be small but they offer more   lifestyle options, not necessarily only for the up and up. Sabi ng Singaporean friends namin, kung gusto daw makatipid ng parents nila for uni, they're carted off to Aussie. Nagtataka naman ako kasi considering mahal na school fees dito, hindi pa pala tutumbas sa Singaporean schools? or maybe it's their course lang that makes a difference?

Super laid back ang life dito...to the point na nababagalan ako sa process.

Hubby works for a US company and earns in USD so kada may fluctuation ang AUD,siyempre it's either good for us or it'll  be bad. Matindi nga raw dito super tamad at walang alam yugn hinire na taga dito para lang masabi "they have filled the position" ex. document control department nila sa SG 3-5 tao lang at mas efficient kaysa sangkaterbang puti dito na nakukuha pa mag nail file sa work

Sa totoo lang yung ibang bossing niya dito while off niya, nakasabay niya sa barber shop mga 10 AM yun-galing sa katabing Dome para mag-take away ng coffee sabay naisipan yata magpagupit.Kung lahat ng tao ganito while at work, wala nga mangyayari

Marami pa pwede minahin dito, sir kaso nga lang "wala na tao" kasi lahat ng mine workers nagpapalipat lipat lang. Walang accountability, na parang so what if you fire me? Madali makahanap work ulit.Ganyan attitude nila eh.

Lately lang kami nagtira sa Singapore,2009-2011 so kita namin ang kahulihan ng mga bagay bagay dito. I hate that business hours 9-5 lang but then it's the same in Europe. Ito lang ang kasaaman ng nakatira kami sa CBD, wala halos maikutan dito, lalabas pa kami to suburbs to "see" something else.Not a good thing for a couple with a toddler, but we have to deal with it. Buti hindi kami nangungupahan, nakinig ako sa asawa ko na bumili na lang flat agad.At least hindi kami suffer sa pataas ng pataas na rental.

Pansin ko din lang karamihan yata ng uni students dito malapit hindi Aussie eh, mostly Asians. I'm really wondering what kind of education they'll get. Agree naman asawa ko na hindi dapa dito paaralin si baby. We heard so many horror stories here  at personally na-harass na rin ako for not being "white" by a teenager!

Nurse ako at I find the health system here weird. Dito lang ako nakarinig na pedia clinics and doctors DO NOT administer vaccines? I've worked for a military hospital in the Mid East and seeing the hospitals here, it's so dated and rusty looking I'm actually scared to go in them Most hospitals here like Royal Perth , bagsak sa handwashing? 27 % ng staff hindi naghuhugas ng kamay! Ayoko ipagsapalaran anak ko sa health care dito , hihintayin ko makadaan kami Singapore or sa Pinas na lang kami papa-check up at bakuna sa kanya. Sabagay hindi nakakapagtaka, lumakad ka lang sa kalsada dito kita naman marurusing at mukhang hindi nagsisipaligo talaga eh hahahaha!

If this is what 1st world is like,I'd really gladly go back to 3rd world country. it just so happens hidi feasible manirahan sa mid-east dahil sa gulo at andito work ni hubs kaya tiis -tiis lang talaga muna.

hindi pa naman kami naka-encounter na may nag take advantage sa amin just because of husband's work pero we feel cheated sa set up dito. We really were shocked sa prices like for soda cans, 1.20 SGD lang, 3 AUD dito! Pag sinabing potable ang water, oo naiinom nga pero ang taas ng mineral contents. I ended up having spring water delivery which costs a bit less than bottled water (per liter) sa supermarkets. Ang mura lang yata dito is Apple products  kinomapre namin prices sa Mid East at dito,aba mas mura lalabas dito! Too bad hindi ako fan ng Apple...oh and cars...comparable sa Mid east ang prices...

Freo is a good place to visit sis. maraming kainan at markets. plus there's the cappuccino strip...strip ng mga italian restos. dami italiano dito at greek. I just bought a suit from an italian nga eh. lol they migrated here in the 60s ata. too bad hindi Armani ang apelyido. lol pero freo is freo yun at yun na. lol. hindi halos nagchachange. mdaming umaalis dahil sa taas ng rents. lol Myers will soon be gone.

sayang ginala ko Tita ko noon. sana nainvite kita. we drove all the way down WA ilang kilometro na lang eh lighthouse na sa pinaka ibaba ng continent. then dinala ko sa Pinnacles, way up north. buti nag drive kami kasi pala pag tour bus, kelangan mong lakarin ang yung site mismo. 5 km around yung pinnacles.

i think this question is better asked doon sa isang australia thread.  doon talagang nakafocus sa "getting into australia" work and migration. this thread is more on getting into australia as a tourist. and we also talk about life in australia.

Sis akthung: you are right, mas mahal nga sa perth coz expected nila na may pera mga tao dahil sa mining industry, nagvacation cousin ko dito sa brisbane, he's from perth working in mining industry as engineer ek ek (may term sila meta churva engineer), kaya shopping sya dito kasi mas mura daw dito pero marumi daw ang brisbane. Sabi ko wait till you see sydney. Hahaha!

^ bawat bansa naman sis may butas talaga.  actually etong question mo marami nang nagtanong sa akin niyan. some of them nag australia pa din. after all, first world is first world regardless of what you hear.

at one point nagulat din ako kasi naka meet ako ng mga nurses, accountants etc na gustong mag avoid ng australia kasi nga sa mga bagay bagay na yan. at prefer nila mag canada or US or UK.

and i have to admit never ako nagkaroon ng bad experience sa north america. lalo na pag dating sa racial issues. sa canada, kahit tense na ang situtation, hindi ka makakarinig ng racial na hirit.

uulitin ko, despite that, marami pa din nag australia. a big part of it din talaga is your attitude and how you handle what is dished to you.

i've heard marami na din umuwi ng pinas. at maraming iniwan ang Aus for North America.

Lumaki na din kasi tayo under the strong influence of America so hindi na tayo gaanong nashoshock sa differences. in fact my friends label me as very american. they even call me yankee.

First of, why do people want to migrate? I think it's to gain citizenship someplace else, di ba? This is as good a place as any if you want. Hindi naman mawawala ang prejudices,racism and ethnic "superiority" ng kahit anong lahi kasi siyempre, iba rin kasi bansa nila yung pupuntahan mo. I always think we're all migrants in the first place.Nobody stays put in just one place anymore.

Kung pamilyado ka at sanay kayo sa de katulong na lifestyle, private schools at nage-excel naman mga anak sa Pinas...well iba ang schooling system dito,hindi rin ganun kamura kumuha ng katulong. Maids/nannies make minimum wage, not like sa Pinas na sobra liit ng bigay kaya anyone can afford. Like Bro Akthung said, it's all just hype na 1st world is always better-depende sa gusto mo mangyari sa buhay at mine-maintain na standard of living.Very humanitarian dito kaso there are laws na hindi ko matanggap like pag employed ka, babayad ka ng tax at mapupunta yun sa mga unemployed na patambay tambay. tama ba yun? Kahit mga Aussie naming kaibigan asar sa law na yun. sila daw nagkakandahirap tapos merong anlalaking katawan, hindi naman disabled namamalimos.yes, may namamalimos dito! kahit 1st world meron pa rin.

I'm sort of unnerved when we first got here kasi I noticed ANG DUMI ng mga puti. Noon sa mid east pinagtatawanan namin nga Indiano at Pakistani kasi ambabaho,sa Singapore ganun din maamoy pa rin pero guess what? Nung nalipat kami dito, may mga Indians din naman,marami rin pero hindi sila ang PINAKAMABAHO na naamoy ko na.MGA PUTI. Below par ang physical cleanliness. Hindi biro andami ko na nakasabay sa changing/poarents room na mga bata andaming rashes.Siguro kasi panay punas lang ng wipes at hindi nahuhugasan mga babies.At hindi ako makahanap ng bidet (water sprayer sa toilet) dito! I had to ask my friend from malaysia to send me one. Sanay kami ni hubby sa bidet at hindi naman feasible palagi na maligo pakagamit ng banyo just to wash LOL.if you're a bit on the OC side of clean like me,be prepared. Mukhang hindi rin sila naliligo sa umaga bago pumasok o lumabas ng bahay. Public toilets are so-so, not like Singapore na may committee talaga nagchecheck ng conditions ng mga public restrooms. Observation ko lang.

I have a co-worker before na Egyptian who is in UAE, doctor siya. HE told me he refused. 2 of my previous doctors left din for Australia. I don't know why he refused-maybe offer wise,maybe personal reasons but there are people who get offers to come here and DO NOT come despite the lure of 'wow, australia!' There are that who do, there are those that don't.

Like Akhtung said, dahil US system tayo laki and it's not the same as here kasi it's more UK-based. Galing naman sila dun to begin with. Ako lagi akong napapagkamalang American pero sinasabi ko no, Filipino-yung English kasi natin tunog American at hindi ko na ma-aclimatize yung English nila.Minsan pag narinig ka nila magsalita,gets na agad nila "U filipino?" kasi tayo lang karamihan ng Asian dito na American english ang gamit.
