Yay's like voting or agreeing with gt's..

I'm gonna write the list for both advantage or disadvantage for this suggestion

ADVANTAGE

- Can give spice to the forum
- By giving Yays you will know who appreciated or agree to you post (by writing in log thread)
- By giving Boo you will know who does not agree to you (by writing in log thread)
- Other members of this forum can give Boo to those who violate the rules even this is only minor. For example the out of topic statements.
 
DISADVANTAGE

- Additional task for the moderators
- Can cause personal attacks even though all of us knows we are matured enough but still we are all different in taking criticisms.
- Other members can abuse it, in the sense that they might give others Boo just because they like it.

Bakit kailangan pa nito? IMO:

Ang mga matatagal na dito sa GT, halos kilala na naman kung ano ang ugali (kahit online) ng ibang members.... 
Matatalino naman ang mga GTers, they know how to say thank you if given some tips or advice... And when something good is done to them (kahit online), they remember it.  Good karma.
Kung meron namang offensive sa posts, deadma na lang.  Hindi na kailangang gumanti dibah dahil hahaba pa ang usapan.

yup sis...maybe there would be advantages and some drawbacks... but i suggested it lang naman... it's really up to the mods and admin if they would like to have that... the reason why i suggested that is to add more spice here na talagang girltalkers will do their best to help other teentalkers...maybe this suggestion is somehow silly for others... and i didn't suggest this to make revenge or what... actually its not in my mind sis.... i just want to give yays to those who really deserve...

^I beg to disagree regarding that we are better here compare to others. I mean I am also a member to that forum pero they are also better as we are here. Magkaiba lang ang level ng maturity but it does not mean na they are that worst.

But of course I know we can handle the karma thing if ever na maaccomplish ang suggestion na ito.

I don't really like the yay and boo thingy in Teentalk. POV mo lang naman kaya ka nagpopost. Minsan useless lang kasi you can post naman na you agree or disagree eh..using the ^. Personalan pa ang dating lalo na if your having a debate. Lagi ka lang i-boo everyday (limited lang kasi ang voting per day/user). So for me, no to yay&boo.

wag na lang talaga, kahit yung yay. kasi paano yung mga taong walang yay? eh di sumama pa loob nila. sapat na yung mga "i agree" and "ditto" natin. saka ok, say someone gets a lot of yays, medyo kakaintimidate na sumalungat di ba? alam mong posibleng atakihin ka with a lot of questions so sayang naman yung discussion.

saka there's really no point in a yay without a boo. ahaha. so wag na lang talaga.

OT: bakit wala nang bago sa the mod diaries? wala lang, ngayon ko lang napansin. saka bakit parang wala na si ex-boyfriend? miss ko na siya, love of my life eh ahaha joke.

I don't see the use of that function for GT. Aren't most of us too old for this? I believe the average age of GTalkers here is around mid-20s.

Besides, many people come here in the first place to seek answers to questions, be it an inquiry on cosmetics or relationships. I know I first visited GT three years ago because I wanted to know where the best ukay ukay stores were. Fast forward to now, and I'm still here because GT is as informative as ever.

My point is, many people come to GT for the information, whether to get it or give it, or maybe even both. Yays and boos don't necessarily fit in well with that.

To the threadstarter, I know it's just a suggestion on your part. But I'm still putting my opinion on the table just in case the admins are already thinking of adding this function to the forum.

this may help female network more popular in a way that members come back to post and post and help others to gain yay's or post only good ideas...

Do GTalkers need yays in order to post and give good ideas? I don't think so. Besides, GT is not a popularity contest.

My opinion as a member of GT: I think the Karma feature is fun and I'd like to know my popularity rating. Wouldn't you be curious, too? But then, this will probably add pressure to my forum experience because I'd be concerned about my ratings. Chances are it will change my attitude to posting -- even just a tad. Will I be posting as me, myself, or is it to make me look good?

I can be a prickly pickle at times -- well, that's me, myself both on and off the boards -- and I'm aware what that can do to my "karma." 

My opinion as forum staff: Being voted by your peers is an elating experience. It's fun to be rated popular. The other side of the coin is censorship will have a negative psychological effect. Getting booed by your peers may prove even more soul-shaking than getting a note from a moderator.

Some people will be bothered so much so they might avoid posting altogether. From the standpoint of administration, that's a minus for the forum.

On the other hand those who rack up points will be posting all the more. Which is a plus for the forum.

But as we all know, the cream of the crop comprises but a small section of the membership. Viewed in the proportional perspective, wouldn't there be more unhappy people and those who couldn't care less if there's a karma system than those who will be happily benefiting from it?

On the other hand, a karma system might pose a healthy challenge to members to improve their posts. Instead of chatty clutter and nonsense, this might encourage us to post messages with content and interest. What you say might prove to be a great help to someone who happens to read your post. This increases the chance of your garnering a Yay.

It can also become the tool of "backseat moderators." You give someone a boo when you find their post offensive and worthy of reporting to the mods. This is both good and bad, but more of bad, because moderating is for the moderators. Your duty is to report, not publicly tag an offender

I am aware of the constructive and destructive potential of peer voting. It's easy to raise a well-liked member to "forum stardom" by padding their points. It's also too easy to make someone look bad by giving them a barrage of boos. The system could be used as a means to gang up on someone or a group. Then probably we'll have a GT version of West Side Story running on occasion Never mind the average age. Peer pressure and rivalry occur among 20- and 30-somethings as they do among teenagers. The mods are witnesses to these episodes in GIRLTalk at one time or another.

The karma system runs up against a great deal of subjectivity.

Well, on what basis are you going to dish out approval or censorship? That's the question, isn't it? Unfortunately, some lines are impossible to draw.

Ultimately, fun is about taking things in good stride. You can have fun with bad ratings. After all, fame and infamy can produce the same feeling of stardom!

Of course, every new feature deserves a try. It's possible that my opinion will be proven wrong. Every community has a unique dynamic. Should the admins decide to implement karma, then I'm for it

It might turn out to be a popularity contest (sometimes maturity levels are not proportional with age), it might be prone to abuse as mentioned and a lot of people would probably stop posting if this were to be implemented.

I don't approve of this too. I've seen how it went sa Teentalk, it's unhealthy. Sure there are pros and cons, but more on cons. And the good that will come out of this? I don't think maju-justify niya yung hindi maganda.

I think it's fun din to see my boo's and yay's, but seeing that there are people who makes a big deal out of it, it's just disappointing.

Actually, after seeing it sa Teentalk, naappreciate ko lalo itong forum.

I'm ok for trial, not that I hope this for the long run. I'd like to see lang how it works here. Besides, we might learn something from of this experience.
