I took French for 3 years in college. Sayang limot ko na French ko. I'm impressed with my college friends na whenever we meet they still remember their french, palibhasa they are able to use it in their line of work.

^ Correct, especially about the money. It doesn't come cheap. Compared to other languages, it is a bit more expensive.

sa alliance nag semi-intensive ako twice... kaso nung pangalawang level medyo nawala na ako (sa sarili)kaya nag regular ako para maayos kaso di ko na natapos. ngayon tuloy gusto ko na uli magenrool pero di ko na alam san akong level magsisimula. sabi kasi nung instructor ko wag ko na daw ulitin yung una kasi daw mabobore ako... pero baka naman mawala ako pag dun sa pangalawa na agad. hay...

^ No, c'est impossible. Like in my case, I just stopped for a little more than a month and unfortunately I'm starting to have a hard time remembering and really speaking it. When I was attending classes regularly, kayang kaya ko pa but now, there's a little bit of difficulty and inconsistency. It's frustrating. You really need regular classes or at least a good teacher in order to be able to really speak. Self-study, perhaps, will be possible and effective if you live in a French-speaking country. Same for any language.

similar in a way that nouns have gender associated with these languages. since filipino words are so close to spanish, I think mas madali mong matutunan ito.

^ Spanish is always easier than French, particularly if you speak English at least (what more if you also know Tagalog). That's because the sentence construction is similar, some you can even translate word for word and it'll make sense (note, not all of course). Unlike in French, it's really different, in terms of construction.

if you have passion for learning the language, it's possible. my hubby bought a cd teach yourself spanish. when he's driving, he puts it on. he was able to catch a few words and constructed some sentences using spanish. kaya naman when we have non-english speaking mexican contractors eh nagagamit niya yung natutunan niya. of course sign language works too

I'm back. Nainspire na naman akong magaral ng French and this time I even bought a book. French made simple from National Bookstore. Talagang pinili ko pa to at last copy na siya dun to think na sa main pa ko bumili. Right now, self study muna ko. Everyday I devote an hour reading by chapter tapos for pronunciation I refer to online resources. So far its working naman kahit self study lang muna. Nakakaintindi na ko ng konti. I think possible naman na matuto ka kahit self study lang as long as you're devoted to it. After this I'm planning to enroll in a formal class.

i recommend The French Ecole and French Podclass both come with pdf files too.

i've always wanted to study french, but i have no time. saka wala naman akong makakausap ng french kaya di ko rin mapa-practice. nag-aral ako ng sign language early this year (coz i'm taking up SPED), pero nakalimutan ko na kasi wala naman akong naeencounter na deaf. sayang tuloy.

there's an store at sm north (ICT area) they sell CD of different language for 600. it's like a virtual tutor.  i wanted to try it kc i wanted to learn something new kaya lang la pa akong time ngayon.mejo [textspeak!] kc sched maybe you can try it.

Try mo ang mga Pimsleur series of Foreign language meron silang French.

salut! may good news ako sa inyo mga sisses. actually, i'm very interested to enrol in alliance as soon as my schedule permits. i've been doing a self-study of it and so far this site has been very useful to me, http://www.laits.utexas.edu/fi/html/toc/00.html. this is the site texas university uses. i just hope that everyone who wants to learn it but cannot enrol formally may benefit from this site. by the way, it was given to me by a french guy married to a filipina when I mentioned to him that I'm interested to learn his language.

and to practice it, here is a chat site which is intended mainly for practicing it. www.french-chat.com. you'll find quite a number of francophones who are so much willing to converse with you.
