I'm a self confessed hoarder  :(  Masyado kasi ako sentimental parang lahat ng gamit may value para sakin kaya ayaw ko basta basta nagtatapon ng gamit lalo na yung mga old notebooks ko. I also have a "collection" of plastic bags, magazines, scratch papers, plastic spoon and fork, paper bags. etc.

Mahilig din ako mag stock ng cosmetics and toiletries natatakot kasi ako maubusan. Minsan bumili ako 11 lipsticks and 9 big bottles of lotions all at once kasi wala lang.

Self control and discipline is the key.

Ang maganda sa attitude na ganito is sentimental so lahat ng bagay magiging importante kahit walang pakinabang.

I am not a hoarder I am a minimalist.

I actually have blog entry for this tp help declutter and organized stuff sa house kasi I know the dilema..

Hoarding most of the time is actually a sign of mental illness. Most of the time merong anxiety disorder ang ganyan. I have anxiety disorder pero buti na lang, hindi ako hoarder...LOL! They always think na baka me paggamitan yung mga iniipon nila one day. And the thought of throwing them away is enough to trigger panic or anxiety attacks. You might want to try to them get some professional help especially yung medyo OA na talaga.

There is a line between practical thrift & false economy.

Those disposable plastic containers, free forks & spoons & other usable freebies:   Keep only what will be used within a month.  Everything else:  give to your maids to bring home or to the basurero.

Keep in mind that storing "may-use-in-the-future" stuff is false economy.  It is breeding grounds for pests & occupies valuable real estate.  The new luxury is open space.  So, the more your house looks ma-aliwalas or "minimalist" -- the more valuable it presents itself.  Look at photos of high-end rooms in glossy interior/decor mags --  the rooms are never cluttered.

Dispose everything that no longer  sparks joy.  Clothes, make-up, shoes, decor, mementoes, etc.   Sentimental stuff like baby clothes & whatnot --  keep only 1 of a kind -- the really special ones, and give away the rest.  That is good karma, sharing with those in need.

When I get gifts/giveaways I really do not need, or have duplicates of -- I give these away immediately.  Do not think these over, these will stick to you & add to your clutter.

Hoarding is indicative of  feelings of Lack/Loss/Deprivation.    Think of Abundance, & The Universe will reciprocate.

IMO, the only stuff worth hoarding:  baby milk.

After medschool i couldnt let go of my books. I thought the basic sciences will not change no matter what advances there will be in the future. I think it rolled over from there. The clutter started to build up. I couldnt let go of new books as well.

Today was different all i had to do was close my eyes and throw one book. I felt the attachment and i was not comfortable. A few hours after i found myself tossing more items in the trash.

Forgive me for saying this, i think recycling is not for me. I just tend to collect the clutter because I dont have the time nor the heart to use a broken or old item.

I think the best way is just to choose the items i bring into my life wisely next time.

pag maliit lang ang bahay mahirap maging hoarder kasi limited lang ang space and ang hirap kumilos. i find my self regularly throwing stuff i don't need or selling them online kesa ma ipon lang sa house.

one time i sold stuff i no longer need and umabot ng 100k pesos kinita ko which i used pang shopping sa hk. but now i don't buy on impulse anymore kasi nagiging clutter lang sa house that eventually you need to dispose. sayang lang ang pera.

Maybe they're sentimental about the past, so they insist on keeping things which can help remind them of it.

Some may have come from a life of deprivation or scarcity, so they feel the need to save the last centavo and prepare for any eventuality.  All the more if the said items were bought with their hard-earned money.

Although admittedly some are really just compulsive hoarders who can't stop themselves from accumulating things.  :(

I used to be like this before, burara at very sentimental din ako sa gamit ko.

But I'm changing na. Since nasa overseas ako, kapag magagamit sa Pinas pinapadala ko or idodonate ko sa thrift store. Pag-uwi ko ipapamigay ko na yung mga luma kong books and I stop buying used book na rin. I listen to audiobooks and podcasts for free. No clutter. No spending.

Now plano kong iscan mga credit card statement and shred afterwards. To avoid future clutter, I go paperless, but other ancient company would still send paper statement to my dismay.  :-\

Sayang sa memory and don't forget to copy your photos and delete it on your phone.
