Crab Mentality - There's a huge difference from being competitive to being downright mean or assh0le.

Too sensitive - Most people take things personally. Ugh. That's just really unprofessional and childish act.

Undisciplined - Just take a look at our surroundings.

so how do you guys think we can eradicate this?

i'll start with myself...

since i live abroad, im usually detached with pinoys who i see are pretty much like those at home...

some people talaga can't change, specially kung nasa pinoy community lang sila umiikot,

i hang out with other people or other "lahi," and trust me, good friends / good people will tell you what they don't like.

...specially when they're familiar with asian culture.

the more you get out, the more you know your strengths and weaknesses.

of course at home, i practice the new things i've learned, and reject the old ways. (specially that drama drama, dak dak BS)

some people believe that one can enjoy best of both worlds or many cultures, its true to a certain point, but in some cases, you just can't chase two rabbits at the same time.

besides, when you get to have kids, they primarily adapt to where they are and wouldn't care less about where you came from... unless they develop some love for pinas when they grow older but most often they see pinas from an outsider's point of view...

of course when u get to bring up kids, you just have to be careful not to pass on the bad traits.

pinoy parenting can be demeaning to kids sometimes, specially if the parent is a bit narcissistic.

there's a certain Filipino comedian on youtube? he talked about the time he lost his keys? he compared how "normal parents" would react compared to "filipino parents". funny but true.

i think #pinoypride is the root of many evils in our culture.

Most of the time, inuuna nila pride nila kesa sa future ng bata.

isa pa ayaw ko sa pinoy,  lagi sila mas naniniwala sa ibang tao about you than you telling them about yourself and what you can and can't do...

even in families...they won't believe their family member is this and that until someone tells them pero yung iba kahit sinasabi na ng lahat, wala pa din. LOL

judgmental, pakialamera and tactless. Common combination ng pinoy. At some level, if you are friends, I think that its fine. Even my friends who are not Filipino will be asking one another if they are seeing someone, or they look like they lose weight but it is always said in a positive tone. Tipong "ooh, you look good" eh sa Pinoy kasi, parang nega agad. Pumayat ka, tumaba ka, parang hindi ok and worse, you are being judged and pinapakialamanan ka na ng someone you barely know.

This old pinay lady and I are both in line at the cashier. I was of course being friendly smiling to her. She suddenly asked me if matagal na ako dito and how did I get here (I live overseas). I said not really and my husband sponsored me here. Her reply was, "ay ang swerte mo naman ang nagkaron ka ng magandang buhay dito sa Canada. Maraming babae dito, ikaw pa pinakasalan" I was like, waitaminute kapeng mainit! Ang what do you mean by that madame.? First time we met, does not know anything about me or my family. Just like that, all those words came from her mouth.

And pagiging competitive in all aspects lalo na sa work and wealth. tapos kung alam nilang you have the means, pipilitin ka to buy things you don't really need. Really? Bakit ba? Ayoko nga.

And butthurt most of the time.

If ayaw nila na may magcomment wag magvent out sa fb :P

I think after having lived outside the US for so long, you get a different perspective of Filipinos and the culture. I can count on one hand Filipino friends who I would count as "close." I used to have a lot more back in HS but then they all turned on me in a blink of an eye so after being burned like that, I've never really trusted having close relationships with Filipinos. My SOs have all been of a different nationality including my current one. And now I feel like I can't associate with Filipinos as well, having distanced myself all this time.

I was born in the Philippines and did my elementary schooling there. The kids were cruel as they made fun of my darker skin tone. This is something I never really got over. Filipinos are ridiculously ashamed of their own when they do this. The lengths they go through to get a lighter skin tone. And all these excuses that Americans want darker skin is b******t. They don't seek treatment for it with pills nor want it in any kind of permanency. I just got done reading a post in Celebrity Gabfest that she only gets blown away if someone is paper white. Because that instantly makes them more attractive? Filipinos are always so caught up with being someone they're not. Disgusting.

been living abroad for quite sometime already, hubby and I dont really have a lot of pinoy friends. we meet with a few of them occasionally, and that is it.

We are friends to a pinoy family, former office mate of hubby - the couple are friends with other pinoys in their community and they get to meet often. one time we were invited to a bbque party at their house together with some of their other friends. while were at the backyard chatting, napag usapan yung isang friend nila who was not around, whom we have already met a while back, and they were berating this couple. talagang chismis to the highest level. because of this incident, napaisip ako, that maybe pinag chichismisan din nila ako/kami ni hubby pag wala kami sa gathering nila. hopefully mali ang iniisip ko. but since then we have distanced ourselves from this couple.

the the wife also of hubbys former officemate hilig makipagkumpetensya. hilig to show off. she invited us to their sons b-day parties and we were able to attend maybe 2 or 3 of it. she over invited guests to their modest sized house that there was practically no more space to sit. pati stairs meron nakaupo. pati patio sa likod meron nakaupo kahit malamig. then siya hindi maka entertain ng guest since she was busy washing dishes, tidying up around the house. nakakawa siya tignan actually that i just help out. yung friends nya busy sa chismisan.

another couple who would flaunt the swimming pool in their house. which I dont quite get, they are very proud of this part of their house whereas the other areas of it literally needs complete gutting.

many pinoys are demeaning sa totoo lang. yung level din ng alaskahan is very very sharp. of course, kung wala sila mapapala sa iyo---- disapir. pero huwag ka, pag hawak mo ang kailangan nila.

and you know what, minsan tulungan mo sila. sila pa galit. as of obligation mo.

I also once had a friend, whom i had helped so many times, when i asked him for a small non-monetary related favor, he developed some sort of aversion -- due to his facial and body expression plus he didnt help right away. I never expected him to help and had other friends already to help but he acted only after 24 hours. sabay hirit, "oh ayan ha tinulungan na kita".   i was so disgusted i just distanced myself na lang. i didnt feel na may utang na loob ako sa kanya because i had done so many favors for him, and i only asked one from him.

And all these excuses that Americans want darker skin is b******t. They don't seek treatment for it with pills nor want it in any kind of permanency.

kapag may Tan kasi, it means you have time to go to the beach and travel. The way i see it, traveling is the thing for developed countries whereas for the Philippines its the "gusto ko makapunta sa amerika".

and yes, they don't seek treatment for it, they don't want it to be permanent, and they dont discriminate people because they have a tan...unless maybe if you're from an insular Caucasian country where discri is silently common.

this is one of the major reasons why i dont like mingling with pinoys. they ask and ask about your life, but they're good in evading. minsan bastusan pa in the sense if they asked you about something, and you answer, and at the same time you ask them the same question, hindi iimik.

then they will chissmiss everything sa pinoy community. sooner or later issues will develop.

as for the competensya, marami naman pinoy utang ng utang. they borrow money just to go home to pinas, flaunt their lives in ie, USA or Canada...

meron pa diyan magmamayabang ng tour kuno to various countries, pero utang lahat yun.

and the reality is sometimes some of them ---do not pay up!!

kaya some pinoys here in our area, ayaw na mag pautang.

i'm do not easily get impressed with swimming pools.

Agree with the sentiments here. Kaya kung magpapakasal lang ako sa kapwa Pinoy, he should have lived abroad for a long time.

But my heart says, it should not be my own compatriot. No offense tho.

In this country, our society values dainty women over alpha females. Sucks.

A: Bibili.

hahah. Tingin ko hindi yan maka-classify as ugali talaga. Parang nabasa ko somewhere out there na may kinalaman yan sa way ng pagcommunicate natin sa language natin. Di ko alam ang eksaktong tawag. Basta parang ganun.

Mga ayokong ugaling pinoy:
.tsismosa
.krab

on topic,
