^sis alam ko dapat may earthquake drill sa schools.. Hay.. 1.86km lang layo ng school ng anak ko sa faultline.. Kapag labas naman ng subdivision namin its 0.7km.. Hayyyy I guess we also have to teach/train our kids what to do and where to go kapag nasa school sila..I will ask the Principal on Monday if they will conduct an earthquake drill and if not then I will push for it

Isa pa pala sa mga concerns ko.. Ano pala mangyayari sa investments natin kapag ngyari na ito? Im sure bagsak stocks kapag ngyari ito.. And mejo matatagalan bago makabangon uli market natin. Di naman siguro magbabankrupt yung banks? lam ninyo naman when hard times hit eh hindi maiiwasan that people take advantage.. Just like nung Yolanda sa Tacloban.. First night palang daw sabi ng friend namin na rescue doctor duon eh may rape na ngyayari, nakawan etc.

kelangan talaga may stash din tayo ng cash sa bahay just in case, and for sure, di tayo makakawithdraw sa atms and over the counter for some time... I just hope yung investments natin ay hindi mawala na parang bula

I don't know if I'm being overly optimistic, pero I believe naman in the Filipino's ability  to rise from tragedies.

Nung nagkakabaha sa Metro Manila nung 2012, hindi naman nagkakagulo ng Armageddon proportions.  Nagtulungan naman yung mga tao kahit papano.

Mas malaki I'm sure ang damage ng strong earthquake, but I hope society remains relatively polite and organized, Filipino style.

sis buti ka pa nga you're 2km away that's a bit far na.

My current house is only 500 meters away from the fault line =( =( Although the actual fault line does not pass through our village, the association has already released a circular to announce that our village at its nearest point is only 300 meters away from the fault line.

I know a few people whose houses really fall on top of the fault which I think is really dangerous.

Start na kami magtabi ng mga pagkain at tubig. Pito at flashlights dapat lagi ring dala. Sana lang magkakasama kami pag nangyari ito

mga sis check niyo kung gaano kalayo yung house/office/school niyo sa VFS Atlas map produced by Phivolcs. Mahirap din mag relay sa google map, open-source kasi yun. Kahit sino pwedeng imanipulate yung pagdigitize/mark ng fault. Although kahit papano may tulong naman siya mas okay parin syempre dun sa gawa ng mga professionals natin. Dun na tayo sa mas-accurate. 

May point si akthung may value pa nga ba cash nun?  Maging ready lang tayo magstock na ng first aid kit at food and water. Mas okay rin if padadalhin natin everyday mga family natin ng sarili nilang 1st aid kit tsaka ID na may blood type etc just in case. Ika nga Prevention is better than cure.

Para sakin, may value parin ang cash kahit papano. Oo andun na tayo na dapat may first aid kits, may stock ng food at water, but it wont hurt to keep some cash too

I remember during Yolanda times na napanood ko sa news.. Yung mga stock ng delata, sabon etc mga basic needs ay triniple yung presyo ng mga nagbebenta.. Eto yung mga times na wala pang rescue na dumating at wala pang relief goods.. At lalong lalo na yung literal na mag iigib sila ng gas sa gas stations.. Ang mahal ng isang litro na tinda ng gas. Syempre kung maubusan ka na ng stock mo at wala ka na ibang choice kundi bumili dahil walang pang relief goods, syempre that would entail na kelangan mo ng cash. Paano nga kung may cash ka sa banko at sa atm mo, pero di mo naman mawidraw dahil down lahat. So it's still better to be prepared. May value parin ang cash kahit papano

to combat inflation, one way is to have precious metals.

but push comes to shove, bartering is key. aanhin ang papel.

kiss money good bye sa banks kaya oldies, specially those who had seen WWII, never keep all their eggs in the bank.

kaya its good to stock up on essential items like medicine, water, rice, soap, etc etc. and when i saw stock up, you stock up up to the point that you would last for many weeks.  it all depends on your survival plan. some have Bug Out Locations which are remote and will keep them safe from most disasters. so their stocks are in their BOL.  Thus the they have a Bug Out Bag which they can grab at a moments notice. the contents of the bag are just enough to sustain your trip to your BOL.

but there are also situations wherein youd have to ditch your bag. so some peeps have survival tins in their pants.

but then there is a what they say the Without Rule or Law scenario which happened in Yolanda.

basta may bag ka, kukunin nila by force. (hence the principle of the Grey Man is paramount. )

kapag umabot na sa point where people are forcibly taking things from others...no use na pera.

I think kahit papano may value pa din ang cash if ever mangyari ang "the big one".. sa kits namin, aside from cash, we have some pieces of jewelry, something small na me value na pwede ipambayad sa mga negosyante who might take advantage and jack up prices of whatever. Nasa Pacsafe body belt na sinusuot under normal clothes para hindi tawag-pansin. Ang hindi ko pa nabibili e whistles - for our emergency kits and for our everyday bags.

The place where we live now is over 3km away from the fault line so medyo hindi ganun ka-scary ang location. 1st floor lang din kami so easier to run to the nearest neighborhood assembly area. Another relief is wala masyado tall buildings around here. I think only two or three structures na magkakalayo na above 10 floors. the rest are 2-4 levels only. We discussed na din with our helpers kung ano gagawin lalo na if sila lang maiwan dito (if sila lang adults, and if kasama nila daughter ko).

But, our condo in QC is less than 1km away from the fault. And 17th floor kami dun. We go there from time to time so we're praying hindi kami doon abutan if an earthquake happens.. we have another QC unit na less than 500m from the fault, near Marikina river pa. Nasa 20s na floor, and puro high-rises sa paligid so medyo dun yung pinakaayaw namin na maabutan ng lindol..

Another prayer namin is kung saan man kami abutan, sana magkasama kaming 3 ni hubby and baby.. mas nakakaworry if hindi kami magkakasama, lalo if nagkaproblem sa telecoms..

Thats why you have to join the preppers and survivalists groups.

I mentioned not too long ago our group is composed of specialists, rescue teams, scientists. We have people who have been preparing for years, people who have studied disasters in. Other countries etc etc

Kaya alam namin mga deepest darkest secrets na hindi binabanggit.

Yung disaster expert na lagi nasa tv naroon din sa amin. Founder of project noah nasa amin din.

We also have gear makers and comms experts. Some are already living off grid kaya nakakabigay sila ng real advice on how to sustainably live.

May mga comms experts din. Mga nakaradio na at antenae.

Yung mga preppers na nakita niyo sa tv, nasa amin din mga yun, but we recently refused many interviews due to security reasons, plus groups have gone secret na.

just started with this one, nag-stock me ng konting canned foods, konting cash sa house just in case. I still have to buy yun para sa water and pito and the common meds.

my question is what is your contingency plan if you and your hubby works in different city (not really far) and communication is down? I mean, who goes to who or you'll just meet halfway or sa house na kayo magmeet? The one is near the fault line (in our case, that's me).

that you'll have to come up with a plan. you can meet at a pre determined area or you can go straight to your Safe Zone or Bug Out Location. you can even have some code to tell your friends about your plan of action (ie going straight to the BOL) so if they find a way to call someone contactable, they can learn of your situation (ie a common close friend). sometimes you'd just have to be creative.

i know many are not into survival / disaster preps here because i dont even see the terms preparedness peeps use, and many have issues with simple issues/solutions

both of you should be skilled on moving on your own to your BOL.  skilled in navigation, skilled in First Aid, skilled in survival skills, skilled in local herbal medicine,

i highly suggest keeping a few copies of Philippine Jungle Survival by our very own Lt. Col Dennis V. Eclarin, a Scout Ranger.  and when i mean a few copies, i mean, have one in your car, one in you Bug Out Bag, one in your BOL, one for your husband, etc etc....you'll never know what might happen.

be prepared because Manila's population is way bigger than Australia's population. pag may mangyaring malaki, aba ewan na.

tapos mahirap yung magkaroon ng 2 disasters sabay.

bumili na din kayo ng Sawyer Water filter. pag nagka earthquake pwede din magkadisruption sa local water supply or even contamination. huwag asa sa water station, unless they can prove that they have huge stocks of water and filters and can operate off grid.

BOL is very personal. but it should be the safest place one could think of. this you'd have to put a lot of hours studying. Many keep their BOL location(s) secret.

some have put lots of money into their main BOL na. ultimong bullet proof and bomb resistant. may water well sa loob. huge huge stock rooms. multiple rooms. solar powered. may generator sa loob. communications room. sick bay. pera talaga ang kalaban.

they guys have BOLs away from faults... some have multiple BOLs.

these people are also prepared to "walk" meaning if all h*ll breaks lose, and kailangan umeskerda, they can live on a day to day basis like a ronin.

As I've said I used to watch preppers. I'm aware that they have BOL away from their home where they have their stocks (some are even prepared for years, and not just for earthquakes). I just don't think it's applicable here where some people don't even have their own house and some can't make ends meet, so how can they possibly afford some of preps needed? how can they be able to afford a bunker and fill it with essentials?

not all preppers are rich. many dont have their own homes, but are able to prep and maximize what they have. at the end of the day you did your best

also, the truth is that life isnt fair. this is why people in the past and even in the recent disaster (yolanda) have resorted to stealing, destroying property and hurting people.

but the end of the day....the most important tool is the one between your ears.

this is also my concern, I'm into prepping (kahit in my own little ways lang). how can you travel far if alam mo na may chance na mga ganto sa dadaanan mo.

ordinary day nga, effort na lumabas ng bahay (vehicle and pedestrian traffic) pag nasa metro ka yun pa kaya may chaos.

but the end of the day....the most important tool is the one between your ears.

yup, but yung mga location nila is hindi naman applicable sa Manila. Marami naman mga open spaces sa kanila. I forgot nga lang if meron prepper na sa populated city na-feature (kung ano pa yun applicable here).
