Foreign Language as a Career

I started taking Nihonggo 2 years ago pero di ko natuloy.  Now I'm torn between taking it up again OR pursuing my Masters.  Anyone here who can give advice on whether there's a lucrative, long-term career if I decide to focus on Nihonggo?  I really love the language kasi and Japan, too.  They say pursue your passion and all that hahaha.  My pay in my current work is very good, but skills and learning-wise, I'm stuck, parang dead-end na ganito lang ang gagawin ko pag nag decide akong tumagal sa line of work na to.  But I'm not ready to leave yet because, as I said, the pay and benefits are really good.

I had a classmate sa Informatics. He was undergraduate and studied Nihonggo as a hobby. Madami daw kasi games na di available sa English tapos Japanese lang. Katuwaan, nagtake cya ng JLPT. Pumasa. Then he studied some more until he got level 1. Pag napasa mo daw Level 1, usually after the exam recruiters na lalapit. Classmate ko cya sa Informatics. he was finishing his degree kasi may offer to work in Japan. Sa Pinas pero 6 figures na ang income and he was only in his early 20's.

[textspeak!] swertehan? If passion mo talaga and you can really master the language I think it will be lucrative. May scholarships available like Fujitsu sis. Why not try?

isang advantage if you are fluent (that is - can speak, write and understand) one foreign language. ok na din kung conversational kasi mas madami na lang mag aral how to read and write.

bagay ito sa mga may balak mag abroad, isang malaking advantage. lalo na sa Japan. they won't hire you kahit super galing mo kung basic Nihonggo di mo alam. makakapili ka sa ibat ibang field of work.

i studied spanish and mandarin nung college at bahasa indonesia after graduation. for me, yan medyo madali aralin. pero kung pangkabuhayan ang pag uusapan, Nihonggo at Mandarin then mag interpreter ka. per hour ang bayad at malaki. pero yun lang, buntot buntot ka kung san magpunta client mo tska nakakabobo din.

Dream ko talaga maging interpreter (Nihongo) so I studied Nihongo in college and was advised by our sensei to take the JLPT pero I was not confident enough that time, feeling ko kulang pa din ang knowledge ko. So I graduated, and worked na lang without practicing it and eventually ayun nakalimutan ko na lahat. Now, plan ko ulit mag-aral and use it as a way to visit Japan and kung palarin, mag-work don

recently ko lang nalaman na aside sa JLPT may mga certifications na din pala ang Nihongo.

Depende on what your other degree is, you can use your fluency in a foreign language to work for the UN.

Learning French or Spanish is good (I studied Spanish and was slightly conversational kaso I forgot na everything ), but I don't find is as lucrative as Mandarin/Arabic/Nihonggo. That's the biggest business markets globally kase (or maybe because I'm in Europe so masyadong madaming may alam ng French and Spanish). So if you couple that with your primary degree, I think super mabenta ka! Also if you know Nihonggo, you can probably go to Japan to teach English! Maybe same with Arabic and Mandarin too.

I started studying korean language as a hobby because I'm a fan ok KPOP hahaha I can say I'm better in reading than writing hangul though I can say I'm just at a beginner level. Though I don't have plans to work in south korea, I just want to visit their country because of their place and if I'm lucky.. be able to meet my favorite idols hahaha

Biggest dream ko na yung maging professional translator and interpreter.

Practical exercise ko lang now is yung communication ko with the danna-sama (hubby) and Japanese friends

Hi! I want to study any Foreign Language since hindi ako nakakuha ng ForeignLang subject nung college (conflict kasi sa major subject). So, gusto ko sana magshort course and yung mejo light lang ang classes. yung tipong nageenjoy lang matuto not for professional career naman kasi. hehe. additional knowledge lang sana.

I learned Korean through self-study for about 3 years. Hobby lang. I wasn't planning to work or marry a Korean. LOL. Then I  was able to work with Korean soldiers dahil naghahanap sila ng interpreters na marunong mag-Korean. Ako lang yung nakuha nilang marunong mag-Korean. Yung iba, English lang.
