I guess the criteria shouldnt necessarily be written. Whatever our values are, yun ang gusto din natin sa magiging partner natin.

We accept the love we think we deserve. --favorite quote ko na to haja

^^i wrote mine in a notebook/diary. after i had my heart broken (naks) only then inisip ko everything i want in my future bf/hubby. A long, Very specific list.
Then i met a guy who eventually became my bf, and who's now my hubby for almost a decade..
Anyway, i saw my list again years ago and grabe, sakto talaga. parang sya (hubby) yung dinescribe ko (ugali, etc, and i havent even met him that time i wrote it)..even the height huh!  ;D

sa case ko, halos araw-araw kung i-pound sa ulo ko nung nanay ko kung anong klaseng lalaki ang pipiliin kong maging asawa: wag daw katulad ng tatay namin haha!nakita ko kasi first hand mga kalokohan ng dad ko. in fairness to him, nagbago na talaga siya. but not until sobrang nasaktan na mother namin. hindi ko kakayanin yon. lahat na lang naging bisyo ng dad namin: alak, babae, sugal. except drugs. buti nga nakatapos pa kaming magkakapatid.

anyway, physically sabi sakin ni mommy, mas gwapo daw dapat sa dad namin. hindi mama's boy (lately na lang nag-stood up dad namin sa lola namin), responsible, good provider. tapos ng pag-aaral.

in my head, meron akong checklist. matangkad, payat, lanky,so to speak. tapos ng pag-aaral, mabait, magaling mag-drive and mag-maintain ng sasakyan, maganda work, responsible. Awa naman ni Lord nasunod lahat ng gusto ko sa asawa, pasok lahat sa checklist - except for the physical part haha! he's not lanky, he's stocky. but then, 3 years palang naman kaming kasal. malay natin baka biglang may sumulpot na kalokohan din ito, knock on wood.

katulad nung iba dito, wala rin akong criteria ng gusto kong husband/bf. i guess sinwerte lang ako sa hubby ko now.

ngayong inaalala ko yung dati, narealize ko na kahit wala akong list ng qualities na gusto ko sa guy, i know what qualities i do not want. siguro subconsciously i watch out for red flags.

i don't think there should be a criteria. It's not supposed to be a checklist of characteristics or something, na pag hindi sya ganito or ganun, the relationship wouldn't work anymore. I guess it's just about finding a good person, a good person on his own and a good person when he's with you, no matter what type of guy he is, you happen to be really happy together.

Hmmm, I guess he should be the following:

1.) Kahit hindi naman super talino na IQ 200 and above, basta masipag.
2.) Mahilig manlibre (LOL!), galante at mapagbigay.
3.) Shares the same standards and interests as me.
4.) He should be disciplined and comes from a good and not judgmental family.
5.) Down-to-earth and low-profile.
6.) Loyal guy.
7.) Mas mature pa sa akin (LOLz), parang Kuya or Tatay material.
8.) Hindi mapanghusga, open-minded at saka tolerant.
9.) Criticizes constructively.
10.) Hindi spoiled brat (Being a spoiled brat in a guy is a very big NO-NO to me! 'Yan ang mga tipong mama's boy na walang balls ipagtanggol ang girlfriend!).
11.) He should be a good and supportive father to our kids (dapat Posh and Becks or Brangelina ang parenting style, hindi 'yung mala-Amy Chua).
12.) Domesticated.
13.) Mabait at magalang sa kahit sinong tao.
14.) 'Yung makapal ang mukha pero marunong mahiya.
15.) Ayos lang sa akin if he's not a religious Christian, basta he respects other people's religion. Ayoko rin ng hardcore Christian (or religious fanatic).
16.) Hindi know-it-all na tao (sa totoo lang!).
17.) Hindi possessive. I would accept kapag protective siya but not to the point that he's in a possessive mode na.
18.) Hindi social climber, sipsip sa mga high-profile na tao.
19.) Hindi siya consistent hypocrite.
20.) Should conform to my high standards (choz!).
21.) He should respect my virginity.
22.) Hindi babaero.
23.) Non-smoker, walang tattoo (although I like guys with tats).
24.) Low-maintenance sa katawan niya pero malinis.
25.) Hmmm... kapag Filipino siya, dapat he should be at least a college graduate (with good credentials). If he's a foreigner, he should be fluent in English. (:

'Yan muna ah!

Before my fiance and I got together, I was dating this guy who was really good on paper: mabait, may ambisyon sa buhay, galante, cute, etc etc. Except wala talaga akong na feel for him. So napaisip ako about the concept of criteria kasi pasok talaga sya sa banga, kung criteria lang paguusapan.

For me, there's really such a thing as the X factor. Which he didn't have. Haha. I guess I didn't see a certain... something, in him. A spark, I guess. An edge. A certain.. angas. He was like a perfect vanilla ice cream. For a while I even wanted to kick myself, ang tangeks ko ata to have let go of such a perfect person. And then I met my fiance na hindi kasing "trophy" but I found myself laughing more in his company. We have so much in common, but we have enough differences to keep life interesting. And he still keeps me on my toes, even after 3 years of being together. I can't explain it. So yes I believe in having an X factor, apart from all the obvious things like mabait, matalino, masipag, mahal ako, etc etc. Kung walang x factor, life would still be perfect, sure. But the kind of perfect that would make me wonder,  maybe there's more to life than all this perfection.

Well said.

I too don't believe in this whole "criterion" thing. You may have a guideline of sorts at first, but once you meet that special someone, you'll find that you'll either have to adjust or just accept some things aren't going to meet your criteria. If you still too strictly to your criteria, then you might just be SOL.

My only non-negotiable is him having a stable job.

The rest, bahala na si Batman. :D

When I was single :

-He must HAVE really love me,
-Also an INC member
-Masipag
-Matalino
-Mahal niya ang Family
-Respects his parents, especially his mon
-Tall :-)
-We must have same values: spiritual, on money, on goals, on family, etc.

And when he became my bf and asked me to marry him, without batting an eyelash, I said, Yes! right away ♥
