sis bitt3rswit ,,,yes breastmilk increases iq and eq of the babies,,,mas maganda kung direct breastfeeding ka kasi ikaw mismo alam mo na malinis ang gatas mo,also ang bonding nyong mag ina solid,,pwede ring gumamit ng breastpump then transfer sa bottle w/date and time extracted if mag work ka na,

i breastfed my eldest until she was almost 2yrs.old, unlike my youngest, na for 1-2mos.max lang

now they're older, i noticed that eventhough they're both generally healthy kids naman, mas malakas yung resistensya ng eldest ko against sipon and ubo. hindi sya basta basta nahahawa.

^^sis bitt3rswit. First of all, Congratulations!!!  I remember you pa from the TTC threads... My baby is now 5 months old and growing so quickly!

Anyway, when I was preggy, like you, basa basa na ako about breastfeeding etc. In fact I already attended classes and sought the help of a lactation consultant dahil may breast issues ako so I wanted to prepare myself for bfeeding nga. My advice is, don't put too much pressure on yourself pero prepare na rin your body for bfeeding. When I gave birth, the doctors prescribed fenugreek, and I also took natalac to increase my milk.

Although breastfeeding is still best for babies nga, there will be times when you think your baby needs more than you can give. Mixed feeding si baby ko and you know what? He's fine, he's healthy and thriving. (1 out of 5 feeds per day is formula).

There will be times when some people will make you feel bad na kesyo hindi 100% breastfed si baby or hindi 100% direct latch si baby, pero I think its going to be more unhealthy for both you and the baby kung papa-affect ka at papa-stress ka. The best thing is to try your best and do what you can. I'm not advocating for formula, but just be realistic in terms of your expectations - breastfeeding is hard work, it is worth all the pain and suffering. But if it doesn't work out, don't feel like you're less of a mom if you're unable to breastfeed.

Fenugreek = 2 caps x 2 times daily (when I started 3 caps x 3 times daily ang prescribed ni Dr)
Natalac = 1 cap x 2 times daily

Congrats sa mga moms who decided to breastfeed!
I highly encourage you to join yung Breastfeeding Pinays group sa FB. You will learn a lot a get so much encouragement!
I highly recommend this for moms, especially those having BF problems.
Before you resolve to giving up altogether or even supplementing with formula, I implore you to seek help from other mommies and even lactation counselors who can be just a phonecall away! I've been in the group for months now and madaming problematic mommies na nagppost everyday who get so much help and encouragement.
No one will condemn you if you choose to feed your child formula. We are all trying to be good moms :) But know na it is ALWAYS inferior to breastmilk. And that the quality of your BM is always perfect. And supplementing or mix-feeding can affect your supply.
If you will choose to supplement, make sure it's the absolute last resort :) There's very little reason to go formula.  you chose to beastfeed for a reason. Keep at it andmake sure that the choice you make is an informed one :)
Remember: (quote lang ito ha and may not be verbatim) Breastfeeding may not always be the best choice for mothers but it is always the best choice for your child. :)
Good luck mga mommies! We can do it!

same here planning to breastfeed my first baby. currently on my 30th week. i asked my ob about it, and she said the hospital naman (metropolitan hosp) is breastfeeding advocate. but mas suggest daw niya mix feeding, she explained kasi after giving birth wala pa daw milk na lalabas from my breasts so formula daw muna. pero may mga nababasa ako na ok lang ipalatch si baby that early. kayo rin ba sissies pina formula niyo si baby muna paglabas niya?

another question pala, for expressed breast milk, anong lalagyan pinaglalagyan niyo nung milk? any baby bottles ba pwede or meron talagang lagayan na mabibili for expressed milk? TIA!  :)

Hi sis... No offense to your pedia, but wala ka talagang makikitang milk sa first few days after giving birth, kahit magpump ka pa. Thats because colostrum pa ang meron ka. Its little and very precious. Bakit super konti? Kasi yung stomach ng baby mo parang size ng kalamansi :) You need to direct feed as often as possible for your baby to get the colostrum and to signal your body to start producing mature milk :)
For storing you can use milk bags (disposable) and some use small storage bottles. Space saver ang milk bags. So up to you :)
Join breastfeeding group sa FB para mas informed ka, mahirap kasi pag sunod tayo lagi sa pedia na hindi talaga BF advocate.

Hi mga sis! Breastfeeding may take time and patience but it's really all worth it. Kahit ako nung second baby ko na, nag-struggle parin kami during the first few weeks of breastfeeding. Slowly but surely, you and baby will get the hang of it. It's really important though to have a support system for breastfeeding because it can pose some challenges talaga. Support from your family members may be the most important and most easily accessible. :)

Ako din on my first pregnancy, during the first few days konting konti lang ang lumalabas na milk but the lactation specialist na tumutulong sakin she encouraged me by saying na ganon daw talaga kasi nga colostrum pa daw yung lumalabas basta keep on going daw and be confident that what your body can provide is enough for your baby's needs.

Thank God I managed to EBF for over a year.  I'm planning to do the same for my coming little one...

nageinna, the fact that your ob even suggested to mix feed goes to show that she is NOT a breastfeeding advocate. Even merely suggesting that is against DOH's Unang Yakap Protocol

^ I agree. Siyempre all doctors/hospitals are going to say that they're breastfeeding advocates pero yung iba at the first sign of trouble, biglang magrerecommend ng formula :(

also have breastfeeding journey. have 2 kids now.

On my 1st, even before i gave birth, i ready myself for BFing. I bought pump and bottles (for storage purposes lang sana). 3 days, 3weeks and even after months, i still have a few drops but I still tried pumping when I got back to work hence we mixed fed her, 20% BFing only :( I tried those Natalac, mga sabaw, water ng water pero sabi ko nun di ata ako nabiyayaan ng breastmilk.

When she turned 7mos, i  feel sad that she could wean that early therefore even if i was pregnant then (yes, nasundan agad heheh), i always make her feed especially at night. Now that i gave birth on my second, i still BFing my 1st kid - in short salitan sila lalo na nung ML ako. 1st is mixed feeding while 2nd is EBF and i can't believe it super lakas ng milk ko. Now that maternity leave was over na, I still pump and i am very blessed to have 4-5oz each session of pumping.

i have loved BFing more and more kahit mahirap kasi kahit  2 sila BFing to me , seeing them healthy while my friends' kids is hospitalized for cough, colds etc., makes me more proud that i am giving my own milk to them to make them healthier.

Nageinna, yes as early as now look for a Pedia already. They will ask you that once you are in labor. Inform too your ob so she/he can include your pedia's name in your admitting slip. For my slips, my ob indicated "contact Dr. Abc once patient reaches x cm". It is the Pedia and not your ob who will call the shots on anything to do with the baby, from feeding to rooming-in to medications and tests if needed

My baby is now 15 mos. old and still breastfeeding.  :) Hindi ako makapaniwala na during the first few months, nahihirapan kaming mag latch. I almost gave up buti may thread na ganito. It really helped me. Haha. Ang tuwa ko kay baby. Ayun kakaubos lang nya ng formula. Iyong isang lata halos 2 mos. before nya naubos. So now si hubby sabi nya sige na nga kapag lalabas na lang tayo saka mo painumin ng formula. Eh until now hindi pa ako bumibili ng formula para no choice na breastmilk ang ipadede namin. Nagmamarunong kasi nakakaasar.

By the way, I want to start na sana mag apply ng mga moisturizer, anek anek sa face ko. So do you know what ingredients I should stay away from. Alam ko kasi parang stay away from whitening and all that. Arbutin kaya hindi puwede? Thanks. May kakilala kasi ako na marami syang inaapply sa face nya tapos si baby nya lagi sa clinic kasi andaming mga skin allergies.
